Is there anyone who you seem to always pay attention to when they voice their opinions because you find you always respect or agree with them? It can be someone you've tried to imitate too (there may be a celebrity who became your role model). A mentor of sorts?

This can be a friend, family member, politician, celebrity, part of your religion (God, Jesus, etc), other. Absolutely anyone.

Mine: An old manager for a private first aid company I used to work for. He had the worst child upbringing in the world (lost parents at young age, orphaned, lived on streets where he was abused and taken advantage of). Despite this, he grew up to be the most polite, gentle and funny man I ever met, who achieved having his own family and owning his own company.

He always used to say "the world owes you nothing" when things got too much for me, and "seize the day" was his moto.

How's about yours?

I respect figures of authority, very rarely do I admire them and I don't often listen to their opinions either.

My significant other. Smartest guy I know.

Celebrities are often not worth listening to unless they are reading someone else's lines.

I always take some time to listen to my friend Charles. He always has somekind of deep thought in his mind. It's always interesting.

I also happened to read IBM "Incredible Bullshitting Man" when ever he has a chance to speak. I always wondered why he never writes. His posts seems to be of high quality when he puts his minds on it.

I have a few very close work friends who I confide in and talk to about various issues. Obviously they will remain nameless. One of them is the stepdad of an ex-partner.

Let's think...

I respect my good friend **** for having the courage to stick to his morals, whatever they may be; I respect my mum for standing by me through my tumultuous childhood; I respect my grandmother for building a political empire without ever employing any acts of violence whatsoever; and I admire Yahtzee Croshaw, because I aspire to being paid to wear a bathrobe and play shitty games.

Huh, seems i'm gonna stand out then.
Since my Philosophy and Values have been drawn off from the Philosophies and Values of many others i don't bow down and listen to ANY one person. I son't do Bowing down very well, so i can say that this Thread can't apply that much to me.
Shortened Version:
Respect=Meh, when the Person deserves it.
Admire=No, take what is useful from the Person's beliefs, then admire him no more.

Gordon Ramsay.
This, but only when it comes to cooking advice. Also, he gives you an almost endless list of quotes for telling people they're useless and need to fuck off, which is fun.

OT: A senior member in my dance group. Pretty much the one man I've met whom I would describe as a genuine gentleman. Since I've long aspired to the same, I greatly value his opinions and knowledge. He's also quite smart and it's rare to find people with whom you can have interesting 5-hour conversations about science, politics, religion and philosophy.
