That cyborg ninja guy with 4 arms and 4 lightsabres, he was hella cool.
General Grevious is not a Jedi or Sith but a cyborg. You lose nerd points.

Jedi: Yoda.
Sith: Emperor Palpatine.

I only watched the movies, though.

Watching the prequel trilogy, I was always confused whether Count Dooku actually was a bad guy.
Sure, he led the separatist movement and was a Sith, but wasn't he fighting Palpatine? And didn't he say several times that the Republic was under Sith influence, basically warning them?
Hmm, maybe I ought to watch those movies again to be sure...
I can't help the feeling that Dooku may only have been used to get the Jedi to trust the clone troopers (thereby allowing Palpatine to destroy them) and wasn't all that evil himself.

Darth Bane, man eats planets, he is Sith win. Or all of the true Sith, they invented ways of bringing people back to life, just so they could continue to torture them.

The greatest Jedi... irrelevant, the Dark Side is where true power lies.

Thank you for pointing that out. Talk about butchering Star Wars - despicable!

Revan is the greatest Jedi in my opinion - exceptionally intelligent and brave, and stupidly powerful. Plus he didn't join the dark side properly (unlike Malak who only saw brute power). He became one so he could defend the Galaxy from the 'True Sith'. Revan was really a Jedi all along, just one who was prepared to do something against threats, unlike the council. Malak misunderstood Revan's intentions by a bloody lightyear.

Then Anakin Skywalker had the most potential but couldn't realise it after he was cut into 5 pieces by Obi-Wan.

Greatest Sith, I don't know. Bane probably; he laid the path for them to regain power (which resulted in the Empire).

For Jedi I'm gonna pick Jacen Solo pre-LotF. He was the only Jedi willing to look into all aspects and all teachings of the Force, and his theory on Unifyling Force as opposed to the Living Force was brilliant until LotF retconned it.

The greatest is Yoda. He's small, green, and he can fight like no one else.

In all seriousness, I'm for the classic Yoda/Darth Vader. I always liked Darth Vader for some reason...

Ahem...I believe the title of greatest sith lord goes to darth sidious? I mean, he only became emperor after all and turned young good anikan sky walker into darth vader after all. Who else do you know who is evil enough to enslave the galexy to his will and can blow up planets at his pleasure? Anybody? I diddn't think so. As for greatest jedi, I guess that title goes to yoda....though I think Yoda had some deep charicter flaws. I mean, how could you lose to the emperor's apprentice but stand up to the emperor in a fight? And how could you not forsee the rise of emperor palpitine? I mean come on! They both lived in the same damn city! In fact, if I was Yoda I probably would have been spying on him from my jedi temple with a teliscope!

-SPOILERS: YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED-

Greatest Sith: Darth Bane - He destroyed Kahn's brotherhood and his own love interest, inspired by the Sith holocron created by Darth Reven which inspired him to inact the Rule of Two. He is also the reason Planet Ruusan was changed into what we saw in Empire Strikes Back. The only other Sith Lord who could have possibly survived an Orbalisk infestation would have been Darth Krayt. Unlike Krayt; Bane wouldn't have bitched or complained about it

Greatest Jedi: As much as I hate to admit it, I may have to concied that Luke Skywalker is the greatest of the Jedi. He singlehandedly brought the Jedi from the brink of extinction many years after Darth Sidious ordered Order 66. He had to battle Sidious more than once and even survived the Yuuzan Vong invasion which claimed the lives of many other Jedi. Yoda was a very powerful Jedi and Revan was able to disable the Star Forge and defeate Malak but, it was Luke who ressurected the Jedi order

Darth Bane without a doubt as sith mastah. As for the Jedi, Mace Windu ftw.
Mace Windu kicks Yoda, Vader and Skywalker's asses. Yoda was 900 years old, Vader was a disabled old guy, and Skywalker was very incompetent.

its been said many a time in the films, books and games that the dark side, in raw power, is MUCH stronger than the light side, their downfall is their scared to lose their great power, but anyway on topic :

sith:palpatine, the man was unusual in the fact he wasnt blinded by rage and his power, he kept his cool and eventually overthrew the jedi.

jedi:Anakin/Vader, the man was the chosen one, end of.
