Isnt stargate the airforce not the marines?

OT: I'm going with Master Cheif, ya I went there
Originally it was run by the airforce, but eventually became a collaboration of fighting forces from many countries. I personally see them as their own unique faction because they really don't act like any airforce group, if I had no prior knowledge I'd definitely say their actions were more marine like than anything.

The Emperor is a better Psyker than Warrior
Abbaddon has failed a dozen crusades (I think the first failed crusade was by Horus, I don't know)
Marneus Calgar stomps around as a seemingly indestructible juggernaut
Kharne needs to have his abilities buffed up, he's falling behind
too bad I can' choose Commissar Yarrick or can I? it's not like the other guys spend more time in space than him

anyway, Master Chief relies on his armour and regenerating health...

but so can his enemies. they're as tough as he is plus they out-number him, can bring vehicles of many kinds to the field, can overpower him with a single heavy infantry unit, can use weapons that take out his shield in a single shot, then there's the trigger happy mutant alien zombies... that explode!

he beats them all and he doesn't afraid of anythin'

actually i will have to change my vote from Bjorn The Fell Handed to Captain Lysander of the Imperial Fists. The man is a ledgend.

He goes missing for something like 1000 years, comes out of the warp in orbit of an Iron Warriors stronghold, gets captured , is tortured for a month , he escapes despite many injuries.

Then he and several other Imperial Fists who were captured with him escaped, they were initially unarmoured and unarmed except for their fists and fury and there they were tearing through the streets of the planetary captial, creating a bloody trail behind them.

They make it back to the Imperial Fists alive in the transport they stole there they endured a 6 or more month period where they were tested both physically and psychically tested before the chapter were sure they were who they were. At which point Lysander was restored to the First Captaincy.

Within 6 months of this the man leads the Fists in an assualt against Malodrax, the planet where he was captured, and laid waste to it

Although Kayvaan Shrike is also a ledgend who goes where he is needed not where he is wanted by Imperial commanders. He goes to the planets that have been abandoned by an overstretched and uncaring Imperium. It is said that during the Targus VIII campaign that the Orks grew to fear the shadows

The original doom marine. No annoying sidekick (Cortana), no pathetically cute enemies(grunts), and no annoying, looped dialogue!

Ciaphas Cain.

He is an awesome marine, fights in space...Makes sense? Not every marine has to be wearing power armour.

Plus you rarely see a marine who can crack a smirk as a main character, normally the guy who gets shot, infact.

Edit: And from games...
Hmmm, John Shepard, cos he is most awesome. (Bioware PC's normally are, cos they get to be you. :D )

Can a primarch count as a Space Marine when the astartes are below them?
sorry, had to ask that...
He broke a Daemon on his knee. xD Shush, but yeah, he wears power armour and is still a "space marine" of sorts, anyway...General more like, but I still think it counts.

Gordon Freeman...

...What? He technically went into space, has a form of power armor, and fights in a war against the Combine...

That's a space marine in my book, and if you don't like it, I'll whack you with the crowbar.. >:{

Marneus Augustus Calgar.
He defeated an avatar of the Eldar war god in single-handed combat, held a gate for a day and a night against an Ork horde ALONE and led the assault against a Tyranid Hive Ship. He is Chapter Master of the Ultramarines and Lord of Macragge. And total fucking badass.
Totally that guy, unless we're talking Primarchs.
roboute guilleman, the Ultramarine primarch is even more badass. he killed Alpharius, Primarch of the Alpha Legion AND he created the Codex Astartes. and even tho he was stabbed in the neck with a poisoned sword by Fulgrim, he survived by going into statis. and hes healing.
No one kills Alpharius, plus his bro will just kick you back in the face ONE DAY if you mess with the AL...And sorry if you didn't know the fluff, but go read Legions, ish my favourite HH book. :D

Well, since groovy pants is banned, and for the sheer fact that no one will see this, Master Chief.

It's quite apparent that the people here voting for any 'space marine' that falls outside of the Warhammer 40k universe, has NO clue of what an Astartes really is or they would not dispute their rank as Top Badass of the 'space marines'.

Warhammer 40k is very dear to my heart, but I'm going to have to go with the Original Space Marines. The first to be trained on a hell world and forged into the elite fighting force of the Padishah Emperor Shaddamn Corrino IV... the Sardaukar! Yes, yes, I know that the Fremen kicked their ass, but they were the originals and Paul Maud'Dib simply replaced the Sardaukar with his own Fremen.

There is something to be said about the defining role the Sardaukar played on the sci-fi universe. Since most modern space marines are derivatives of warhammer 40k, it should be remembered that pretty much all of the defining characteristics of warhammer 40k was ripped off of the Dune Chronicles (with some Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard mixed in).

Does Gordon Freeman count? I mean, he is killing aliens, they just happen to be on Earth. If not, I'd say Doom guy.

Well... Robert A. Heinlein created the concept of Space Marines [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Marine#History].
Sorry, I just love defending his honour. He's that damn good. ;)
'Know your history'.
Sorry, I'm that much of a fanatical bastard about it...

Bruda Grimtoof. He's an Ork that sprouted in full Power Armor from a spot where a space marine took a leak. Grimtoof was immediately drafted and sent to the front lines.

Davian Thule. He was one of the best of a faction CALLED the Space Marines (more specifically, the Blood Ravens).
