As for my own picks, I'd have to say Kylar Stern from the Night Angel trilogy is pretty badass, at least once he pulls his head out of his ass. Durzo completely rocks his socks, though.
Duncan Idaho from Dune; also Leto II, for sheer crazy.
Lief (or Leif, cant remember spelling) from Deltora Quest
Shane Schofield- Matt Reilly books
Scarecrow- Matt Reilly books
Dervish and Grubbs- Darren Shan Books
Darren Shan as himself
Honor Harrington, as well as her immediate clique, from the series of the same name. Way too much for me to type it out unless requested, so if you want to know more, just ask.
Allanon from the Shannara series
ex:
Walker "I'm not gonna become a Druid"
Allanon "yes you are"
Walker "I'd rather lose my left hand than become a druid"
...further on in the book...
walker "Oh crap I lost my hand, I guess I'll go be druid"
Allanon "*****"
that might not be exactly how it went but thats how I remember it
oh and how about captain carrot from the discworld series
Well, I can't really think of a top favorite, so I'll give a rundown of those who I've liked a lot:
-The Serial Killer form "Velocity"
the serial killer is actually Valis the perfomance artist making the mural in town, and his accomplice is the protagonist's (Billy), fellow barkeep, Steve Zillis. Consider this, the killer manages to kill 4 people in a span of 2 days, two of these people in the Billy's house, one time while the Billy was talking to the killer as Billy was in his own house! That takes skill.
- Jarad from The Magic the Gathering trilogy, "Ravinica"
He's an assassin type antihero who dies, but had so much forethought to place a spell on himself that allows his ghost to remain and still do what he does best, kill people.
- I know people have said this one already, but I'll say it again, Artemis Fowl. This kid is one of the greatest criminal minds out there. He manages to out smart century old beings on a regular basis!
- Brom from the Eragon books.
Keep in mind that if you only saw the movie version of Eragon, you missed out on alot. In the books, Brom is actually a talented swordsman and mage, who sacrificed the love of his life and his best friend for the sake of civilization. The definition of a hero done right.
- Death from "The Book Thief"
Death is the narrator in the book and gives the entire story a wonderful dose of dark humor and really makes you feel story for the poor ol reaper as he's just a guy who hates his job, but does what he's gotta do.
I'll go you all one better: Kage of Last Chancers fame.
Starting in chains and a straight jacket, he fights his way out and kills everyone on the prison ship he's on single handedly, in order to turn it around and head back to his semi-psychotic commissar, all in order to DEMAND TO BE TAKEN ON A SUICIDE MISSION.
The most awesome book character I have come across is Drizzt from Forgotten Realms. He has the maddest fighting skills ever. Plus, it's nigh impossible to kill him.
What about you? Find your opinions, and tell them to me.
I see we have a few Drizzt fans in the audience. He's cool and all but I like Artemis Entrie better. He had no formal instruction but can still fight on par with Drizzt at an older age. Plus he's an assassin, and it just doesnt get any cooler than that.
