I have been thinking about this question since I came out of the womb. It's troubled me for years, and I've yet to find an answer. So here's the situation, if all the superheroes in both the Marvel and DC Universe were to all fight to the death, which superhero would come out victorious?

The Flash is the only right answer. Have fun reading this blog entry ^^

http://www.explodingrabbit.com/forum/entries/official-list-why-the-flash-is-the-strongest-superhero-in-existence.1294/

TL,DR :
The Flash can punch someone with enough force to wipe out all life on Earth 1,989,099,999,999,999,940,000 times.
The Flash can perceive the world in a way where even light appears frozen to him.
Through quantum tunnelling, he can phase through anything.
He can punch you a billion times a second.
He is a really good kisser.

Superman, he is so OP that OP is not enough to describe him anymore...

He even became a god at one point...

See here for references, although Goku fans hate it with a passion:

Thanos, during the Infinity Gauntlet series. He had all the power of the universe at his command. And he used it. Even Galactus backed off, and he eats planets!

Aren't you guys forgetting The one above all? I mean come on, he's literally the one above all xD. Unless he doesn't count.

In which case I would go with infinity gauntlet Thanos. Punching the silver surfer out at multiples of the speed of light is no small feat.

He's not really a superhero though, is he?

I support this answer. And totally not just because I thought the Flash had a really awesome outfit when I was younger.

I think it's really hilarious how they have taken great pains to show how he's obviously faster than Superman lately, though. XD

I'm still not entirely convinced that's more powerful than Batman, though. On top of "Anti-Power" and "absurd amounts of money", Batman's power is basically just plot armor and sheer dumb luck, and I'm not sure any amount of speed would be able to outstrip that.

He turns to relative good after his experience with the Infinity Gauntlet. It humbles him a great deal.

Franklin Richards. Reality bender, more powerful than Galactus, he flat out scares the Celestials with his ability to mold an entire pocket universe, which he did to save his family and every other major Marvel hero during Onslaught. If he thought Superman would be better as a cream-filled pastry, Superman would be a danish. He likes to hide the fact that he's a god in all but name, but occasionally uses his powers in times of crisis, like when Thing was possessed by one of the Serpent's hammers. It only took a touch to solve that problem. Most recently, he was shown, as an adult, 6000 years in the future, thanks to a malfunctioning time gem. So he's not only powerful, but immortal as well.

Honestly, it can be anybody. Comic book writing is fickle enough to allow the possibility for anything to happen anytime to anyone. I think everybody has the potential to be the most powerful supahero evah.

It's a question that could be argued endlessly, but a lot depends on the exact parameters of your question.

You say most powerful 'superhero'... so are we looking at all metahuman entities, or just the ones that have done the 'fights crime' shtick?

Also the term 'most powerful'.. do you mean the one who'd be the last one standing in an ultimate epic battle, or the one with the most potential to change the universe, or some other definition?

If it's all metahuman entities and last one standing I'd probably vote for Death of the Endless, but as I say it's a debate that will probably never be fully resolved.

Minor nit-pick but Galactus doesn't actually 'eat planets'. 'Eats planets' is just convenient shorthand for what he actually does, which is convert all the biological mass on an Earth-type planet in to energy and then absorb the energy. The planetary mass is left relatively undisturbed.

DC wise it is probebly the Flash, time travel and the ability to destroy matter at the sub atomic level with a punch, thats damn powerfull.

Marvel is more difficult imo. I guess during the golden age it would have been Doctor Strange. At that point he could destroy planets with the wave of a hand and fight Galactus.

Then I guess it was the Sentry. Of cause he came hand in hand with the Void so maybe he dosen't count for the title.

Right now I have no idea. Probebly one of 2 people that I can think of tho I am abit behind so anyone can feel free to correct me. Anyway the 2 I can think of are Franklin Richards, the kid can warp reality for gods sake. The other is Doctor Strange as he just got a BIG powerup tho I don't think anyone knows how big yet.

As I said I am behind a bit so if anyone could fll me in on how Doc Strange is doing after
Selling his soul
I would appreciate it. I don't mind spoilers.

EDIT:
Forgot about the Phoenix Force. I guess whoever has that would be at the top.

Actual super, "new power every issue" Silver Age Superman. Going by the "fights crime" (which I don't understand when Batman should go against likes of Darkseid with genuine superpowered beings), Adam West Batman with Bat-Curret-Problem Repellent Spray.

If one considers likes of Endless and Lucifer/Michael/Elaine super or heroes, definition gets real muddy.

Stan Lee. He even created Spider-Man. HE CREATES HEROS, it's his power.

Considering the "Most powerful" is directly related to the thickness of the character's plot armour, Squirrel girl may actually be the right answer, as her plot armour (even if it is humourously given) is undoubtedly the thickest.

Otherwise I would propose Dr. Manhatten, or Superman Prime.

Quite seriously, Squirrel Girl. They have some internal power-related score things, and she's got the highest score across the board. As in, 'power level is higher than that of the Gods'.

Why? Because fuck you, that's why. Squirrel Girl is so powerful Doctor Doom just lets her walk in and use his time machine, 'cause he knows he ain't worth shit against her.
Yeah but that's a bit of a gag within marvel comics. Every time things get in danger of being taken too seriously, Squirrel Girl comes along and beats up Thanos or Dr. Doom.

If I limit myself to actual heroes
For Marvel, probably The Hulk

For DC, Dr. Manhatten or if I stick to Earth 1, problably either Superman or Martian Manhunter (honestly, he is strong as superman, can also fly, has shapeshifting and telepathy. He also admittedly has one of the lamest weaknesses this side of the Green Lantern)

Now for the Flash, diddn't they nerf some of his more absurd powers after Final Crisis?
