Do you have an actor or actress that you absolutely love but no one else really seems to understand why? Kind of like an "unpopular opinion," I guess.

Mine would be Edward Furlong. You probably all know him from Terminator 2, but he's done quite a bit of acting since then. Mostly unheard or low-budget movies, but still. I just think he's still an amazing actor even if drugs did cause him some problems for a little while.

So, what about you guys?

American History X is my favourite film with him in, he and Edward Norton did amazingly in that film.

OT: Thandie Newton would be my choice. Alot of people I know don't even know who she is despite them seeing films that she's in.

That's surprising, I think she's pretty good an actress.

As for me, unless your Scottish (perhaps British in general), you'd probably not have heard of Laura Fraser...

I absolutely love Paul Giamatti. Though it's not like other people don't like him, I just don't hear much at all about him.

I've heard a lot of dislike for Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, although I'm not really sure why.

I guess mine would be Jennifer Love Hewitt, although I've only seen a handful of films she's been in.

Oh, and 2007-present, Jessica Alba learned how to act. So I don't hate her.

Milla Jovovich and Tom Cruise.

I don't know why, but all the people I meet can't stand Milla Jovovich, yet I found her to be quite enjoyable, if at times minutely disappointing, in the films I've seen her in. Tom Cruise I think is an amazing actor BUT a dick of a human being. He performs his parts so well but you see him an real life and be sure to kick him in balls at least once.

I like Tom Cruise. Sure, he might seem a bit nuts at times...but as an actor, he´s super-charismatic and professional. He defines the term "movie star" for me. There´s not a whole lot of them like they used to.

Jennifer Carpenter. She is amazing on Dexter, but for some reason a lot of people don't like her acting. She always finds the best way to touch our feelings in every emotional scene her character has (and she's basically the emotional center of the show, since Dexter himself seldom has genuine feelings about anything). Maybe it's the swearing that puts some people off, but that's hardly the actress' fault...

She pulls off frustration and joy well enough, and simple sorrow is no small feat that she can make look real. But full-blown my-tears-are-crying emotional breakdown sadness? Bless her heart for trying, but I think she puts too much effort into it, to the point where it's almost laughably fake. She has probably some of the most emotional moments in the series, and they fall flat.

ANYWAY

Henry Rollins. He's better known for his spoken word and pure rage-rock power, but the guy acts his ass off in "The Devil's Tomb" and by god, it's an awesome thing to behold.

Nicholas Cage. The guy is bat-squeak insane. This only works in a small, so very small handful of roles. Like "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans", where he has to act like he's hallucinating things and generally be an unforgiving prick. And it works. You might not consider it good or bad acting per se, but there's no denying that you want to keep watching just to see what evil craziness he'll get into next.

Keanu Reeves.

I know he's not the most charismatic actor in the industry, but he's not that bad either. He's a hell of a lot better than most of the hulks of meat masquerading as human beings that stared in 'The Expendables', and looking back I honestly can't think of anyone else who could have done a better job in 'The Matrix' than him (ok, some would argue that Christian Bale did in fact do a better job in 'Equilibrium', but still, Keanu was damn good).

I so wanted him to win in Hot Fuzz.
Wait, people don't like Timothy Dalton? Why?
Timothy Dalton made the more recent series of CHUCK awesome and yea, I too really wanted him to win in Hot Fuzz.

OT: Ben Stiller, I see lots of hate for this guy but I don't know what it is, I just enjoy most of the movies he is in, and he seems like an alright kinda guy.

Note: Meet the Fockers/little Fockers are not in any way included in the above comment.

American History X is an amazing movie. That's another one of his more well known movies, I guess. I forgot to mention that one, oh well. I totally agree, he and Edward Norton were both brilliant.

Not quite true, I guess. I find him to be funny sometimes. He's got some good jokes, and I've got a friend that absolutely loves him. But it does seem like most people can't stand him. :/

I personally see her meltdown in the parking lot in episode 405 as one of the best scenes in the history of television. I've seen it at least twenty times and her performance still moves me every time. Anyone who's handled that kind of grief can relate to Deb in that scene.

But... He played James Bond D: How can he be disliked? Licence to kill is still one of my favourite bond films... Anyhoo. For me, it's probably Jason Bateman. He's in a fair few things, and for some reason I like his acting, even if you think it's not all that great.

Does Will Ferrell count? I have read that some peope dislike him and wheneverI mention him to some people (mainly my cousins) they loathe him. They just don't find him funny.
