Hard to pick a favorite. If I had to pick it would be Tarentino for Pulp Fiction alone.

Other choices would be Zack Snyder and Martin Scorsese, for Sucker Punch and The Departed.

Possibly Neil Marshall, because he gave us Dog Soliders, Doomsday and to a certain degree I enjoyed The Descent as well.

Quentin Tarantino is an obvious choice, although there are two of his films I didn't enjoy (Jackie Brown and Death Proof).

Robert Rodriguez is another director I quite like, although he needs to stop making family films.

Maybe Steven Spielberg? I can't recall disliking one of his films. But then again, I haven't seen/can't remember many of them.

Or maybe even Peter Jackson. I can't remember disliking one of his films. Sure, I'll go with Peter Jackson as my favorite.

Kubrick. The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket... these movies are worth living for.

Park Chan-wook. No one else has ever showed the ugly truth with such beauty. He's the director who makes you wish to close your eyes, yet his story forces your eyes wide open. Lose all control, just stare at the screen horrified, yet intrigued.

You expect me to pick some indie director of cult classics? Hah! Christopher Nolan takes my cake.

His works range between really good and eye-crossingly fantastic. He cannot fail, and despite my total lack of interest in all things Superman (what a boring hero, bloody hell) I am looking forward to his next movie.

Just letting you know that Nolan isn't directing Man of Steel (in case you thought he was, I don't know). He's only producing it, so I don't think you can really call it "his" movie, considering he's not going to have that much say on the finished product.

Wow, that pretty much sums up my opinion perfectly. The guy has never made a bad movie, in my humble opinion. Even Insomnia did some cool stuff that I really liked.

The lack of Hayao Miyazaki in this thread makes me sad.

So, I will proclaim that H. Miyazaki is my favorite director. So many classics. Princess Mononoke is my favorite film ever.

While I absolutely love Fincher, Scorsese, Tarantino, Nolan, Hitchcock, the Coen Brothers, old Spielberg, and Rami... none of them can best my all-time favorite: EDGAR FUCKING WRIGHT. The man is a visionary.
