Who likes dead island?

So, after hearing some incredibly mixed opinions on the game, I finally decided to check it out myself.

I rented it this weekend, and I thought it was alright. Weirdly enough, I thought the game was at its best when it was only throwing one zombie at you at a time - What with its focus on first-person melee combat, which was viceral and fun when only up against one opponent, and endlessly frustrating when against armies of them. And the special types of zombies seemed unneeded, and only serve to further annoy.

And yet, I'd be lying if I said I didn't have fun with the game. Throwing a knife at a zombie and stunning them, then running up to them and kicking them in the stomach so that they fall back, then crouching next to them and punching them in the face until they stop moving has a certain charm to it. The setting is beautiful, and even though the story is pretty bad, you never really spend much time talking to NPC's.

But that's just me. What did you guys think of it?

It's a fun game until you get to quite late on, when you don't know anyone else who has it, because it's impossible to play on your own without dying repeatedly.

The worst was the groups of five infected zombies (which run uber-fast) all at once. They were just the biggest dick move ever.

I dunno, but it seems to me like they didn't really decide to change the difficulty depending on the number of players, and instead gave the same game regardless, which is really a bit of a shit thing to do.

Another mixed review damn it! Ok people I need an indepth point and counter-point review to this game (dont trust paid reviewers).

Edit* Also it would be console (xbox 360) and NOT co-op.

Problem is, Dead Island doesn't have Split Screen co-op IIRC. So that would require to persuade 3 other people buying Dead Island too and worst case scenario persuading them to buy Xbox360's.

Said group of people would probably prefer to just play a 4 player splitscreen game.

What I thought about it? Hmm let me just get my wall of text ready[footnote]Sadly I do not know how to make a indent on the escapist so the text will look derp[/footnote]:

It takes a lot to mess up a zombie game but Dead Island hight light was the first trailer, where the gameplay wasn't even up to part to gaming back in the 90´s.
Nasty sound feedback if you´re not using headset[footnote]my drivers are up to date no need to ask[/footnote] which had me play on mute if I wanted to use my speakers.
Little to no option to tinker with graphics ingame, if you want to edit anything you have to go into the fucking ini file, not to mention a PC != console, stop using the same FOV for both of us T.T"
The multiplayer was just straight down ass, I don't think me or my friend played for more then 10 minutes without running into a crash or disconnect from our server. Also how come I can't turn off voice ingame? I much prefer skype over Dead Islands voice system since it got such terrible voice quality.
But worst of all must been the fucking running and turning system, since when did a human operate like this?!

I had more complaint back when I played it but these are the major ones I remember.

Not me.

It was actually pretty fun to begin with, but it starts getting old before long. The combat boils down to just whaling on the zombies, punctuated by the occasional curbstomp.

I gave up in the third area when most of the fights turned into shootouts with human enemies. I did not buy the game so I could play yet another fucking FPS.

Also, the story is garbage, even by video game standards.

If you have a fiend to play co-op with then it could be a blast.

Best part of the game was that trailer of theirs.

I play it on PS3, and enjoyed it (despite MASSIVE glitches). I can definitely see why people don't like it though, especially with the PC versions method of voice chat (broadcast all their sound output).
