I believe you'll find significant overlap between FiM and PPG fans. I certainly watched Powerpuff Girls as a kid, and it never actually occurred to me that it was supposed to be a girls' show. I mean seriously, that show was so violent I still can't believe anyone would make fun of you for it.
I always thought it was aimed more at making fun of Japanese anime. However, we did have a theory that Samurai Jack eventually settled down from the whole time traveling and became Professor Utonium.
but...professor is white and samurai jack is asian

I thought everyone was down with PPG. I'm surprised anyone got picked on for that. I'm wondering if it has to do with the age range. It made it's debut on CN when I was just entering high school. Everybody who knew about it seemed to like it.

I felt left out because I didn't get Cartoon Network. :(

As for Faust's involvement in Foster's, the character Frankie is apparently based on her.

Come to think of it, PPG was pretty big on feminism (and I mean that in a good way)

There have been other shows of girls being badass, but it wasn't nearly to the degree of toddlers beating Satan so hard that his teeth fly out.

Faust, the artist for the show, also did the art for PPG and Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends.
Lauren Faust was FiM's Executive Producer (now Consulting Producer) and creator. I've never really gotten a completely satisfying answer about how much work she did on Foster's and PPG, but I think it's fair to say she didn't draw an entire show by herself.

So I just started watching MLP:FIM and it reminded me of another awesome little girl's cartoon from back in my day: Power Puff Girls. I used to love that show when I was a kid, and I got all kinds of Hell for it in school. So, anyone else watch a show you should have been embarrassed about when you were a kid? Power Puff Girls in particular?
Well it should remind you, both had the same influences from Lauren Faust.
Reading through this thread, I think OP has been very thoroughly reminded of that.

I don't particularly mean offense, but your friends don't seem too fun to be around.

Listening to Celestia Radio while posting this.

As an 18 year old who still watches cartoons, MLP included, in the north-east of England where I could possibly be the only Brony for a 100 miles I just deal with the fact that I have watched and enjoyed cartoons all my life and PPG is one of my fondest memories of my younger years.

Personally, I think Discord is the single greatest kid's cartoon villain ever, but Him's downright creepiness and drop of a hat mood swings are certainly up there.
Ever watched Reboot? The main villain in that show (Hexadecimal) seems a likely inspiration for Him. They share a lot of similar personality quirks.

I have watched a few episodes of Reboot and while I found it rather inventive and original (especially considering the era) I absolutely could not get into it. I hate most entirely CGI series even today. They just don't have the budget to break the uncanny valley to me. But 90's CGI is just...cringe worthy. I can totally see where your coming from now that you mention it, but Reboot is an active eyesore to me so I've never managed more than the first 3 episodes.
