I'm currently working with game theory for my master's thesis. It's pretty cool!
Well whaddaya know! I'm currently working on my bachelor's thesis, the topic being a comparison between mythological literature and adaptations in the video game medium.
It's great, getting to turn a hobby into work, isn't it? :)

OT: My main fields of study/research are lingustics and literature (both English/American), geography (physical/economic/cultural/urban), and remote sensing.

So... statistical NLP?
Sssssort of. The idea is automated pattern recognition in an author's work based on the idea of an "author invariant"--a (supposedly) unconscious quirk of his/her writing style. Then once you have an idea of that author's stylistic fingerprint, you can compare it to others and determine who the likely author of an unknown or disputed work is.

It's an inexact technique, and nowhere near a science yet, since there are so many variables and unknowns, but there are some exciting things being done with it.

I don't really do anything interesting in research but I did get into my college's research fair for some work on testing the speed of the Hadoop platform (it wasn't as interesting as it sounds).

I'm writing a scripture about product development as of now. It's going to be aimed at a single company though, so no-one is going to benefit from it other than them.

Sound Engineer here, so basically my study is how will this orchestra consisting out of 50 people who all try to play their loudest to get noticed not sound like total shit in this shitty church. Oh and how much duct tape (black gaffa) I'll need for one job, usually about 6 roles. Or I need to calculate how much electricity I need to power all my lights because I do that aswell. Or my speciality acoustics, really hard but it pays like a bi'atch

Well my hobby requires (not really but that's just the level I... hobby... at... or something) research into a lot of things; painting techniques, resin casting, etc.

I do, except its nothing sciency, its managerial research. In a nutshell its about how small I can make your cubical without making you scream that its too small. Doing an exploration of what can be done with corporate culture and getting a company to change with the times.

I did research all the time when I studied electrical engineering in college. I was kind of burnt out at the end so I lost interest in it at that time. Now that I think about, I would be interested to slowly get back in to it.

I'm doing a PhD on representations of New York in literature, coming from an English background but also looking at it in film, television, art and... possibly... video games.

Part literature, part computer science, part theatre history--I'm doing a PhD thesis revolving around attributing authorship of Elizabethan plays in cases where the author is unknown or questionable. (This isn't, I should hasten to add, one of those "Shakespeare didn't write Shakespeare" things; those people are nuts.)
Sounds fascinating, buddy. How are you bringing computer science into the project? I gotta agree with you about the Shakespeare authorship debates, it seems like a pointless argument to have. I actually have a tshirt that says 'William Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare's plays.'

I am doing some research in the field of titanium dioxide production as part of my uni's co-op program (PPG was in today, things are getting serious). I am studying nanotech, so I am a little jealous you.

lol ABA is applied behaviour analysis, so we use behaviour analysis techniques to teach the kids, who are autistic. So not everything works so we use tactics found in other research (from journals etc.) to try and fix the problem, teach the pre-requisite skill or whatever. Nothing sinister honest :)

I am currently studying how much porn and South Park I can watch now that my AS exams are over.
My own preliminary investigation into this subject suggested the answer is 'an awful lot'. Even though that was a few years ago, I'm willing to bet that the field hasn't advanced too far.

OT: I work in a genetics lab doing a study on babies with developmental disorders.
