I never buy games at release, the prices normally drop considerably after release.

The reason Sony/Microsoft are looking to prohibit used sales are twofold:
- Firstly it stops multiple people who want to play the game from only paying once to the manufacturer.
- Secondly it will no doubt inhibit the effect of price reduction of new titles.

I'll pay £20 for a new copy when there's used going for £8-10 second hand, but I won't pay £45. If you remove the used market, prices stay higher for longer until the market reaches initial saturation.

Even at $60, games are the cheapest I remember them ever being, so I can see why manufacturers are disgruntled at the forcing down of prices by the used game market.

Almost every title I buy is brand new. I have finished almost all games that I want to play that have already been released, so I have almost no need for used games. I can also afford it, and it helps that I trade in a lot of games. Between 8-20 titles a year.

Wow, that's a lot of free time :| (don't take it badly, I'm jealous of you!)

But, it is interesting that you buy new but trade your games (and then encourage the used game market). You choose to buy new because you really want the release as soon as possible or as a "choice to help the industry"?

Personnaly, I never liked that last reason... I understand that we sometimes want to encourage a particular type of game or developper, but I prefer to make that kind of choice on a humble bindle than on a new release since I kind choose the amount which I consider ok.

I'll pay full price if I think a game is worth it. Which is very rarely, but it does happen.

On occasion, when I really really want a certain game when everyone else does, I'll be paying full price. When it' otherwise, I won't be. It's not a 'problem'. It's the business of enticement VS supply and demand in a competitive market.

The last full-price £40 game I bought was Skyrim, and that was...2011? So it's been quite a while. I tend to wait that 3-4 month period after release where console games drop from about £40 to £15-20 before I buy games (I did that with Farcry 3 and Dishonored).

The only reason I bought Skyrim full price was because it was something I really wanted after being a massive Oblivion fan, and the only games coming up that I will pay full price for is the new Animal Crossing and maybe GTAV (Then again, the new AC won't drop in price for about 2 years, which seems to be the case with most Nintendo games).

On Steam, I only ever buy things in sales, or if it's an indie game I want I tend to wait and see if it'll come up in a bundle first, unless I feel it looks good enough to pay full price (Like Prison Architect).

It happens on occasion. I'll be doing it for The Last of Us in the very near future. The last time I did it was for Ni no Kuni earlier this year.

Skyrim was the last full priced game I bought also. It was a job vacation day and I thought it was a sign :p

Since I played more than 80 hours of that game, I still think it was a good buy :)

I wait until the price has dropped to at least £20. Generally I don't buy games unless they're around £10.
Think the last full price game I bought was Assassins Creed: Revelations. Since that mediocre piece of gaming I haven't bothered.

Edit: Well, I don't really buy games at all anymore for my PS3. I recently discovered the world of cheap bundles.

Last game I bought "full" price was the PC port of Ace Combat Assault Horizon, and that was 10% off on Steam because it was a new release. The time before that was when I accidentally left Strike Suit Zero in my cart when I made a purchase...

Actually technically I guess I did buy Fire Emblem Awakening on release day but I was more in it for the limited edition 3DS than the game itself.

I pay full price all the time. I don't see where people get off saying that $60 is expensive. I remember gaming back in the Atari days when games actually were expensive.

I mean, $60 for a 8-12 hour game is way cheaper than an equal number of trips to the movie theater.

Yeah, when I buy a game full price I want to feel like I'm getting value for money, and that usually means to me if it's costing me at most £2 per hour of play. Like with the new Animal Crossing I mentioned I will easily hit a couple hundred hours in the next couple of years haha, so that's good value.

Trust me, that time is heavily bargained with my gf :).

I choose to buy brand new because I tend to finish games quickly and am looking for something new to play always. I will only replay a game if I really enjoy it- other than that, its a finish then shelf. Then they just sit there collecting dust. Rarely do I find all the achievements, because it starts to get tedious after a while.

I trade games in, because I usually get a little over 50% back by the time I trade it in (for most titles). I am a "rewards pro " member at gamestop so when I trade games in and preorder a new title, ive gotten upwards of 40.00 for some things. I will also wait for "trade in sales" where they offer an additional 30% for trade in

I buy some games that cost £10-£25 new, but anything more than that I tend to wait on it for a while.

I don't really like the thought of sinking £40 into a game. Been a few exceptions. Deus Ex Human revolution is the last one I remember.

Hype doesn't quite grab me like it used to. Part of getting older and having experience of past "hype" I guess.

It is true that we're becoming more cynical :S I don't know if it's just the older gamers :S

I think it's with age, I feel I became jaded a bit too soon. It's like buying games at full price is a good thing ;)

I don't know about you, but steam sales haven't helped the matter. Also when I did console games I traded in games, which may not have knocked much off, but... let's just say I purchased new games way more than I should have.

Guess collectors editions still get picked up at full price a lot, can't say I was one for them. Got to love shiny boxes though.

I don't have time for games as much as I used to and I don't really get hyped up about games like I once did so paying full price for a game day 1 just doesn't make sense to me. Most of the games I buy now are impulse buys during Steam or GoG sales or Steam's daily deals.
