It honestly could be some movie spawned straight from heaven and it still wouldn't be good. Bioshock should be one thing we gamers have over people who'd rather see movies, and is still one of our best arguments against the idiots who want to ban games. Why make it into a movie so haters can enjoy it?

I get that gamers are defensive about their hobby of choice, and that most videogames don't lend themselves to film in the slightest, but I disagree mightily in this case. Bioshock follows a pretty solid and fairly traditional character arc, and it would make a damn compelling film in the right hands.

As for whose hands, gotta go with Arronofsky.

Uwe Boll. Let's face it, the film isn't going to be any good but someone like Uwe will at least make it funny.

Peter Jackson could make it an epic, Michael Bay if you want to have a dumb but fun explosion filled time or Tim Burton if you want a really creepy visual aesthetic.

Or we could go with tradition and let Uwe Boll make it.

I was thinking either Peter Jackson or Guillermo del Toro.
Those were the exact same names that popped into my head.

Although I'm still not convinced that Bioshock would make for a good movie at all. The central point (the whole "would you kindly" business) wouldn't really work in a non-interactive medium.

Please... we all know the answer is Christopher Nolan. I don't even feel like saying it, I just know that it's true.

I just started playing through Bioshock again (got it at Target for $3.75 on clearance) and thought this might actually make a great movie. If it's in the right hands.

I was thinking maybe Zack Snyder would do a good job. He's stayed loyal to many of his other adaptions, such as Watchmen or 300. Maybe a 3-Hour Bioshock movie would actually turn out well in his hands.

Or Tarantino, because he kicks all kinds of ass. He would be great for this kind of thing.

Raimi actually, I say this because when you get down to it Bioshock is a very campy/pulpy premise, and he does that kind of thing well. He's good at taking the over the top and absurd, like "Hercules", "Xena", and "Spider-Man" (I mean face it, he's a super hero) and managing to keep it that way while managing to put some depth behind it.

Due to the budget and the style, perhaps mentioning his duo of pseudo-grecian performances aren't the best examples, but the point is that if you look at his style and body of work I think he'd be good for an over-the-top underwater city full of mutants who shoot various kinds of energy, with monologue delivering societal philsophers rambling in the backround throughout about the perfect society and how it goes wrong.

Face it, the guy does Zombies and Mutants and bashing them down well, and while the Splicers are a bit brighter than the average Zombie or "kill mutant" they are still pretty dull, and we already know he can handle that kind of material, and we know he can handle over the top heroes and villains. :p

Unfortunately the only one I can picture doing it "right" is also very much dead. You will never convince me that a Kubrick directed Bio-Shock film wouldn't be great. Who was it what directed District 9? He ought to be able to make somethin' good.

George Romero or John Carpenter. Not because they'd make it the way it's supposed to be or anything. I just think they should direct everything, no matter what it is.

How about whoever directed street fighter the legend of chun-li? That was a truly excelelent movie and the shadow of the colossus movie (being directed by him) couldn't be in better hands.

Why make it into a movie?? Bioshock is perfect as a game and doesn't need to be turned into a movie to get that recognition.

Wow, OP ninjad both of my responses. We must have a very similar taste in films!

If I had to choose, I'd say Snyder would do better with Bioshock as a source material.
