If I had to choose, I'd let Jacob die. He was just sooooo boring. Miranda would be my second choice.

I try to get everyone through though, they're all at least a bit likeable and there's no one I actively want to kill off.

Kinda off topic, but why was the OP put on probation for his post? I didn't see anything wrong with it...

Am I the only one who actually liked Miranda as a character? She was a MUCH more interesting romance option than Ashley.

And can someone explain to me why everyone fucking loves Tali so much? Seriously you guys, she's annoying as fuck, yet you put her up on this alien lover pedestal like she's the greatest thing since sliced bread in space. She's not hot. She's not interesting. Knock it off.

OT: No one deserved to die. They all had their qualities, sure Jacob was a little bland, but he had your back, and a better personality than Kaiden that's for damn sure.
Tali's great! Don't you dare to talk bad about her!

does the loyalty missions affect the renegade version of the suicide mission? I've only really finished it on paragon so don't know.

while i dont really want anyone dying (i quite like all my team) i want to see how it would play out with my character being a complete asshole to the team

I always saved them all. In fact when they 3 people died the first time I went through the omega 4 relay I reloaded a old save and mined for an hour and a half to make it so they lived.

But if I had to chose jack can go jump in a hole.

Jack, not because I don't like her (I do, by the way) but because keeping both her AND Miranda's loyalty is absurdly difficult.

I thought that Jack was irritating and I intentionally killed her off in my playthrough (after trying and failing to get her loyal again following an argument). then I replayed the suicide mission to save everyone , just because I wanted to save everyone ultimately :)

You're not supposed to get Tali exiled per se, you're just not supposed to do the one thing she begs you not to do, which is to rat out her father. There are still at least two ways to prevent her exile even while withholding that evidence. If you can't manage that, you still gain her loyalty if she's exiled, it's just not such a triumphant WIN.

I didn't lose anyone during the final mission, but I did make it a point to kill that stuck up twat Samara when I had the chance. Sure her daughter is a homicidal vampire, but at least she's fun to have around.

This is one thing that irks me. Everyone says Grunt is dumb, and that Wrex is better. What's better about Wrex? All he does is talk about how his race is doomed. He's an emo, made a promise to his father who he killed for breaking tradition, left his race to rot (initially), and his side quest was so meaningless it was ridiculous. And when he chose to point a gun at you on Virmire, I almost asked myself what the point was of letting this P.O.S. live. I did so because I could convince him, and thankfully he became more upbeat and awesome in the 2nd game.
Well that's the thing about Wrex, you have to look a little deeper than the cover. An emo is a stereotypical term that describes anyone who has a doom gloom teenage hormone driven attitude. Wrex's was more like a "screw it, I tried to help, but they F'd things up even more." kinda outlook. His reaction on Virmire was unrealistic, especially if playing as renegade shepard, but aside from that I saw him as more of the "old guy who still has some spark in him" rather than the "teenage hormone-driven menace to society" His side-quest had to do with honor, and tradition, while his personality felt that the Krogan needed to move past such notions. Its very much related to our modern-day societies in which we are in a constant struggle between tradition and change (having lost the value of honor a while back in most cases)

But the great thing about Grunt is that he's the best comic relief in the game, bar none. More times than not, he had his own unique input on every situation miles above the rest, and he was the only person to make me laugh every time. He's child like, impulsive, violent, and that's what makes him so unique from the rest of the cast.
And that would fit perfectly into the first game, but in a dark story, I'd prefer to leave out the comic relief personally. Or keep it more subtle.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 had their disadvantages, and advantages. I personally preferred ME 1 because they focused less on the "dark and story-driven" aspect and more on an "actiony yet story-driven" aspect.

When I saw the opening cutscenes for Mass Effect, I felt it was taking the classical sci-fi approach, while still being awsome in its own right.

But I digress from the topic. Point being, everyone has a right to their opinion, I simply dissagree with your outlook on Wrex.
Regarding Wrex, that may be the case, but he's not strong or driven in the first game as he should be, at least as driven as you believe him to be. If he is, it's WAY too bottled up. I think they nailed personalities far better in the 2nd game, and by that point, you can't have Wrex anymore anyway. If Wrex was going to be that awesome in the 2nd game, I would've been MORE than happy to invite him back. But he has a very good valid reason for not being on your team, so I gladly accept Grunt, because unlike most of the community, I can see the unique asset of his youth that they can't.

And in regards to the humor, you're kidding, right? 1 was far darker, despite the more gruesome scenes in 2, merely because the humor was weak sauce in number 1. The only characters that were funny were Shepard, which doesn't count, and Ashley. Maybe Kaiden, but not nearly as often by a long shot. Most of the characters in 1 were flat. It makes me wonder why people liked Garrus before 2, considering Garrus was "a pole up the ass" in the first game, whereas he was actually FUNNY AS HELL in the 2nd game. So, in response to your comment about 2 lacking humor over 1, I'll use my buddy Scout from TF2 to answer that for you. "Uh... NO!"
