Not taking the poll because of the limited options, but i'll just lay out some of the basics of my perfect society:
- all land is owned by the state
- the state provides all basic needs of life (including, but not limited to, accommodation, food, good public transport, education (at all levels) and healthcare) free of charge to all people to an equal standard, which would probably fall under 'lower class' in our consumerist attitude but is more than enough for a comfortable life
- All luxury goods (including recreational drugs other than marijuana and medical drugs for recreational purposes, luxury food, entertainment goods (but see creative endeavors, below), consumer electronics, clothing beyond basic functionality and comfort, etc) would be provided on the free market.
- Those who wished to work could do so in order to earn an income and purchase luxury goods.
- Luxury goods would be taxed in order to pay the wages of those who provide the basic goods to society.
- All restrictions on personal freedoms are lifted unless they impose on another persons freedoms. Basic rights granted include Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religious association, protection from persecution, Freedom to mary whomever you wish, freedom to do whatever you wish with your own body (or other peoples, if they are fully consenting adults). They do not include the right to bear arms.
- weed is handed out for free, in unlimited quantities, by the government. All other recreational drugs are luxury goods subject to the normal market mechanisms, unrestricted
- Creative endeavors such as videogames, music, movies, painting, photography etc are not provided by the free market. Instead people who wish to undertake these endeavors are free to do so and share their work with the world, while being amply provided for by the same government safety net as everyone else. If their work becomes popular and a specific number of people (i can't remember how many right now) vote for it, they can become a state funded artist that receives a state income to purchase luxuries while continuing to produce art for the world.
I've got like a 3000 word essay about this titled 'the good society' i got a distinction for lying around somewhere... too stoned to find it atm.
