What are your thoughts on it so far? I'll probably download it when I get home. Some buds are already sold on it but it's Ubisoft so...I'm cautiously optimistic.
It has a singeplayer campaign.Silentpony said:Always figured that'd game would be DOA. Who really needs to play another pvp only online game?!
Extended demos for the multiplayer don't count. Technically Battlefront has a single-player.BabyfartsMcgeezaks said:It has a singeplayer campaign.Silentpony said:Always figured that'd game would be DOA. Who really needs to play another pvp only online game?!
No it actually has a story driven single-player campaign.Silentpony said:Extended demos for the multiplayer don't count. No kidding, really? Huh. Depending on how long it is, I might take a second look at this one. I was thinking its basically Battlefront meets Chivalry with an unhealthly helping of Souls.BabyfartsMcgeezaks said:No it actually has a story driven single-player campaign.Silentpony said:Extended demos for the multiplayer don't count. Haha. That was how I got 99% of my duel wins. Stand near an edge, when the other clown gets close enough directional throw him off the side. The Wykydtron said:...and the throw attack has a ridiculous amount of power due to how many instakill cliffs and pits there are in any given map...
And there are gear items that increase how far your throw sends the opponent away, so there may be potential builds based around pits and falls. It's a funny meme kill the first few times but it gets tired fast. I hear throws were garbage in the previous closed betas though so maybe they just overcompensated on the buffs.Zhukov said:Haha. Wait, they buffed throws? The Wykydtron said:I hear throws were garbage in the previous closed betas though so maybe they just overcompensated on the buffs.
Yeah they buffed throws for the open beta, I heard that throws were considered bad before then so they got buffed. One of my friends who was super hyped for this game has already said he won't buy it on launch because of how flawed this game is after extensive play, throws were over half of the reason why. Also I don't think FH needed a comeback mechanic in Revenge but post 2014 almost every fighting game released has a comeback mechanic so why not jump on that train apparently.Zhukov said:Wait, they buffed throws? The Wykydtron said:I hear throws were garbage in the previous closed betas though so maybe they just overcompensated on the buffs.
I was talking about the closed beta. That's when I played. Didn't bother with open beta.
There's a couple videos on youtube showing off bits of a couple levels, maybe more who knows. Can't speak to length or how good the story is but what I've seen does imply that you'll get to play as at least a few of the different classes so calling it "training for the multiplayer" might not be entirely unfair.Silentpony said:No kidding, really? I was going to say something, but you pretty much nailed it. For Honor hates transparency in its mechanics and loves giving classes unfair advantages. Shield classes can just turtle up endlessly and their shield bashes have very little wind-up, are hard to dodge, and can be comboed into, meaning you can get stunlocked in an endless combo. Hybrids have such long range that its possible to get killed by just trying to close the distance. On the the subject of dodging, it doesn't always seem to work or worse gets you killed because puts you closer to the attack you were trying to side-step.Seth Carter said:You can tell they took inspiration from Dark Souls, because even doing the tutorial leaves you with no idea what the hell is actually going on. Enjoy being constantly countered by the parry mechanic (not in the tutorial) until you eventually dig up reddit or whatever to figure out how people are countering your attack without blocking it and becoming invincible to every attack for a couple of seconds after. (I'm actually not sure that second part is part of parry, sometimes it just seems to happen that someone is guarding the whole thing somehow, which makes them invincible even if your whole squad is assaulting them).
Its difficult to get much impression of the gameplay itself from the Beta. Team comps are non-existent, even if people have unlocked all the hero types, they don't know how to use them effectively, since the Tutorials are only for the first champion type in each faction.
Most of my general glaring complaints are still there. The R-stick directional guarding thing is awful, given how thats universally the camera control in games, you're fighting the constant instinct to move it to see better during a fight (also the camera is too tight to you for a game in which a flank or rear ambush basically means you die). Sprinting still doesn't use stamina, so you can use the slightest break in combo attacks to just peace out to their point to heal/back through their minion line/to a buddy. The loot system still looks like an obvious pay to win setup, since you can buy stat altering gear packs. You maybe get 1 piece of gear after a game. A pack gives you 4, 2 of which are "Rare" quality. Even the cosmetic stuff is setup like a F2P game, as far as the unlock prices vs how much steel you actually earn.
One new annoying thing I noticed is if someone disconnects or logs out, they get replaced by a full health bot. Once you get to the elimination stage (or if you're just playing an elimination game mode), that can basically reverse the game on you to have a beaten opponent ragequit and suddenly a completely fresh champion lands on field.
