Warhammer Online is the biggest cuplrit of this when they claimed that PVP xp gain would be the addition to their game that would trump WoW once and for all.Jark said:To be truly honest I haven't heard a single MMORPG developer dub their game a "Wow killer".
I'm no fanboy of blizzard myself, used to play wow before they kicked it's teeth in with Wrath of the Lich King but anyway. I'm looking forward to the release of Aion a lot, even though it may be worse than WoW it'll be nice to play a new MMO that hasn't claimed itself to be better than the spazfest that is World of Warcraft.
And also if any game developers of MMO's have outright called their games wowkillers, need links/pics. Proof is always a nice incentive.
Sorry, that's what I mean by the developers and fans attaching the title to games. The recent Aion thread jumped onto the "WoW Killer" band wagon, and I was honestly shocked at the positive response it recieved. I understand that a game this is yet-to-be-released, people can be exctied, but aren't you just letting your expectations get too high?HentMas said:...ALSO, i never really heard AION state it was going to kill WOW... did i miss something?? (i know, out of topic, but i heard that in the last AION: WOW KILLER thread and was thinking "really??")
Ah right, wasn't aware WAR Dev team had said something stupid like that, cheers.KhaineII said:Warhammer Online is the biggest cuplrit of this when they claimed that PVP xp gain would be the addition to their game that would trump WoW once and for all.
I find that's the root of the problem these days, almost every developer these days are too focused on making their game a competitior to whatever big name exists in their genre, and lose sight of making their game something new and unique.Jark said:Was gonna say though, it's nice to see some new MMO's coming out not claiming to be a "Badass wow killer" and that they're going to take the No1 MMO spot and that they're just focusing on being GOOD. Remember that? games that went out of their way to be GOOD and original, and not to just compete with the biggest titles out there.
It's like say, if a new FPS was going to be released and saying "Yeah we're gonna beat CoD: Modern Warfare" whilst being a shallowly designed piece of tripe.
I apologise, I'd thought I could use a gaming fourm to stimulate gaming discussion.brainless906 said:Who's sick of people being sick of hearing WoW killer being thrown around as a term....
I'm sick of a lot of shit but i dont complain all over the inter-webs about it.
thank you for a completely useless comment in a thread no one made you read and post aboutbrainless906 said:Who's sick of people being sick of hearing WoW killer being thrown around as a term....

There's no need post if you're not bothered with the topic.
That raises the question of wether the developers of The Old Repbublic should release an open/closed beta to test the game play before releasing, so they aren't plauged by bugs and server issues.Ghostkai said:All I will say is, The Old Republic better have it's shit in order when it launches. Would hate to see it go the way of LOTRO, WAR, Conan, Archlord and the SWG update.
I don't get why games have to compromise, trying to "meet WoW halfway", when in fact, they just feel like knock-off's.
Take a look at some solid MMO's atm, DDO, GW, EVE. Sure, DDO has just had a massive update, but it's not in the least like Warcraft. All of those games haven't touched WoW, and all have a solid fanbase who support them and have built a decent community. Sure, they don't have 12 million, but at least they know they won't attain that so don't aim to "steal all the WoW players".
While I do feel compitetion is good between two developers, I think it should be directed in a different fashion. They should focus on what makes their game unique and special, not which factors of their game are SO MUCH BETTER than the ones in WoW.brainless906 said:This is a new age of gaming.
game developers are out there in large numbers.
i feel as though the term "wow killer" is more of a challenge than anything.
not that anyone wants wow dead.
merely that a company would take the money making machine that is Wow and strive to be better.
better then the best.
a base of improvement.
so say that you are sick of hearing of "wow killers" is to say in parallel that you are in a sense against the further development of the MMO rpg genre.
conversation based enough for you?
Hahahaha.Nmil-ek said:Aion already flopped on the wow killer title 400, 000 pre orders? Absolutley nothing compared to that gargantuan what is it 12 million now? Hell was pushing 10 mill when I was still playing.
Hadn't even considered that, kudos.sooperman said:I am also confused by this phrase: there already is a "WoW Killer"; Runescape(105 million accounts). And yet, WoW is still alive and kicking.
Runescape is a "WoW killer" only by definition because it is what every MMO aims to be: really popular. So if there are already games that are equally or more popular than WoW, I would like to know why anyone bothers with the phrase at all.
Just my two cents.
Well i agree.KhaineII said:While I do feel compitetion is good between two developers, I think it should be directed in a different fashion.
