Characters are an important part of games no doubt. We all have a favorite character in gaming, whether it be a human, robot, animal or even alien. For example where would Assassins creed be without the main character Desmond Miles. So this brings me to the question who is your favorite character in gaming and why?

Either Guybrush Threepwood from Monkey Island - just because he's so funny and has one of the best names in video game history

or

Tex Murphy - the coolest private eye I can think of.

Etna from Disgaea, I find her cute and really enjoy her laid back attitude and the fact that she is one of the few things that can get me to laugh.

Chie Satonaka from Persona 4.
After playing Persona 3 and completely fallen in love with it, I was prepared for Persona 4 to disappoint me in comparison. Boy, did Chie proved me wrong. Even by now, I can't tell exactly why Chie resonated so good with me. She's not the prettiest, not the smartest, hell, not even the most unusual from Persona 4 cast, if anything, she's the most normal. And yet, she's so brave, energetic, charming, simple, kind and just bright! Chie is the brightest character I've ever seen! She never loses her spirit and she's always the one who says "come on guys! We can do it!". But, what I also really love, despite all that, I think that her Shadow and all the hidden feelings she has are just incredibly dark and it creates an amazing contrast to her character. Plus, she's just one kick-ass gal.
And also Erin Fitzgerald's performance as Chie really helped. She managed to perfectly convey Chie's character by her voice, it's loud, energetic, almost obnoxious even.

"Ladies and gentlemen! Please! ENJOY THE SHOW!"

Where would the world be without BlazBlue's Hazama? Just watching Hazama walking around being evil makes my day in a second. I really wish I could play him but he requires epic troll powers I unfortunately do not possess to play him well.

That's been my desktop wallpaper for a good 2/3 months now. Not gonna change anytime soon.

Runners up are: Naoto Shirogane from Persona 4, Yosuke Hanamura from Persona 4, Chie Satonaka from Persona 4, maybe Noel from BB? Depending on who you are she's either really cute or really gosh darn irritating. All I know is her relationship with Bolverk is interesting and her playstyle revolves around autocombos and random supers. We like this :3

God, so many to pick from.

Canas from Fire Emblem (2003)- He's kind, smart, scholarly, nerdy, and passionate about his research. He's the ultimate cool guy professor.

Henry from Fire Emblem: Awakening- Don't touch my waifu, ************. He's by far the most entertaining of the lot. His dark humor brightens my days.

Most of the cast from The World Ends With You- Shit I just love all of these characters.

What, guys, shooters can't have favorite characters too?

Khan from Metro 2033, the incredibly spooky, wise old shotgun preacher companion in the midst of the apocalypse. They played him down though in Last Light, now he's just fanatical and not mysterious enough on screen.

On a similar thought, Father Gregori from Half-Life 2, for the exact same reasons as Khan.

Every member of the audience in Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, my absolute favorite being Molly -- the woman who has an appearance of the typical Wild West whore, but she's actually an incredibly warm and hospitable woman. All from a game that never gave the listeners any characterization besides a voice, snappy dialogue, and some pictures from the game's cutscenes.

The entire B-Company from Bad Company 1, before the game wanted to be serious in Bad Company 2. The general light-heartedness and constant comedy in the midst of that game made each character (including Marlow) memorable and situationally hilarious.

Lugo and Adams from Spec Ops: The Line, for reasons I won't really spoil.

Morte from Planescape: Torment.

Starts off seeming to be nothing more a run-of-the-mill comical sidekick (well, except for being a disembodied floating skull). But as you find out more about his story, it completely changes the way you look at him and he becomes one of the most sympathetic and complex characters I can remember.

Also, Quan Chi from Mortal Kombat. Mostly because he's a kung-fu fighting Necromancer (which is awesome) but because he's also like Hannibal from the A-Team. He always seems two steps ahead of everyone else when it comes to planning his nefarious schemes.

I honestly dont know...

The question is also SO open to different interpretations...

In what kind of sence would "fav char in gaming" be? Because theres 2 kinds of "favorites" I kind of have:

1) Favorites because I like the character itself... aka the character has an atractive personality and I just plain like them (EX, phoenix wrigth comes to mind... I like him. Well just about as much as most of the cast in the AC games. Its actually a pretty damn good example...)

2) And THEN theres the characters I love not so much because of their personality (Althougt its indeed a factor to take into account) but because of gameplay moments with them. For example, overcoming a really insane challenge that is the definition of HARD with them- althougt I cant think of an example right now, its those characters with whom I just like because of their playstyle and overcome hard as hell parts in games. I sorta become attached with them because of their abilities... also tends to happend in LONG games. Its kinda weird...

EDIT: I actually thougt about a good example: Roland from BL1. In reality he is just one of those characters who say one liners every now and then, however, he was my main character, and with whom I did the whole fucking thing- thats probably around 100 hours of gameplay, and I think I am short with that number. I also killed Crawmerax with him (for those who didnt played the game... lets just say that it is NOT a easy thing to do. It took around 3 days of trying just to FINALLY defeat the damn thing), and that was HARDCORE as hell... It was awesome... somehow this all translates into me liking him more than I should, even thougt, as I said, in reality he hardly has any personality.

I dont know how to call this, really.

Master Chief.

Despite arguments of "no personality" and that he is generic, he has had 4 games that have given quite a consistent personality that few other characters match.

Gee I wonder what the guy with Link as his avatar, and a spin on one of Link's titles as a username is going to say...
Yup, I love Link for many reasons, for one, he is technically multiple people so I can pick and choose my favorites yet still love the character as a whole. He may not have much personality, but his accomplishments and abilities matter far more to me personally. He embodies what an ideal hero is in my eyes.

For me, Master Chief is literally "soldier" the personality. He was made to be the perfect soldier, so yeah he won't have much of a personality, because he can't, that is what I like about his character. He does not even remember he's a human,(if the ending of Halo 4 is to be believed) that's compelling and messed up at the same time.

Senator Steven Armstrong. Best. Villain. Ever. Can't say more because spoilers.

As for protagonists...

If you're looking for a charismatic protagonist to lighten up this nihilistic attitude gaming's getting across these days, look no further than Vyse.

Solid Snake and Abe.

They're heroes, no matter how much self doubt they have, no matter how much bitterness or regret they feel. They're true heroes. And that's why I love them.

Hmmm for me I'd have to go with John Marston. His story throughout Red Dead Redemption just drew me into his struggles. I have played that game for over 100 hours and not once would I sacrifice anything for the long rides across the desert. The brilliant part is that he is a character one can sympathize with, yet also holds his own and despite a "bad guy" background turns out to be a man with a great moral conscience. If anyone likes characters that seem down to earth and real I couldn't think of a better example. For me it was more than just playing as John Marston it was becoming John and becoming fully engrossed in one of Rockstars greatest games ever.

My favorite character has to be John Marston. He wasn't a perfect person, but he was realistic. When he would say something he made sense, and he would say something that really did work well with the situation. Depending on how you played the game, he could have been a bad guy again, but along with the main story line he was just a man fighting for his family. He was a man being made to fight again, and all he really wanted was to truly put his past behind him and live out a happy life raising a son with his wife and "uncle". His story was one which made me truly sad at the end, and I really did enjoy playing through his life and interacting with the world as the character.

I can never answer this question properly. Somewhere between Catlina GTA, Glados Portal, or King of all Cosmos. Why? They just crack me up to no end.

Samus Aran

The woman is a veritable powerhouse. Entire planets are missing when she's done with them, not to mention wiping out entire elements and collapsing dimensional planes.

Not to mention she's my source of inspiration.

You know that picture that says "I learned the most from people that don't exist," a picture that I can't seem to find right now?
Well, it's true for Samus and Samus only. She's who I remember whenever I'm nervous, I think of how strong she is and it just fills me with confidence.
