James Cameron. Avatar fuckin blew me away!
It was pretty, and very entertaining, but in the end it was basically 'Dances With Smurfy Cats' (cookie for the reference.)

Jean Pierre Jeunet is probably one of my fanourites, he directed Amelie, Delicatessen and A Very Long Engagement. His films are pretty and he focuses on the small details.

Hayao Miyazaki too, I love Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away.

Hayao Miyazaki

He does the best anime movies
This, all of his movies are incredible. If Ponyo is your weakest film by any margin, you know you're doing something right.

Michael Mann!

He's not the best director ever, nor are all his films fantastic. But in the era of the Baysplosion I am more grateful than can be imagined for a person who produces big budget action movies that are still clever, well written and have a degree of subtlety to them.
I strongly disagree, Public Enemies filled me with psychotic hatred. I was rooting for the FBI because they'd shoot him and end the movie. Not to mention that no one was distinguishable except for Johnny Depp and the woman and you couldn't hear half the dialogue.
