It annoys the hell out of me when anyone refers to the latter Doctor Who seasons (Eccleston onward) as a 'reboot'. It is not a reboot, though 'restart' is not entirely inaccurate, seeing as The Doctor did take a holiday for a few years. The term 'reboot' would suggests retro-active continuity - a history re-write - but this is not the case. Please, for the sake of my sanity, can people stop calling it a frikken' reboot?
Anyway...
Ace was always my favourite, especially throughout the books (my school library had a fairly comprehensive collection, I recall). She makes her own explosives and weapons, and puts them to good use frequently. She took out a Dalek with a rocket launcher (supposedly impossible) by aiming for the eye stalk. She beat the crap out of Imperial Daleks with an electrified baseball bat because she took exception to being described as 'small' by one of them.
Unfortunately, Ace has to make way for Rory now.
Rory seems to have a habit of selflessly dying... but he gets better. He guarded his en-tombed missus for 2,000 years (during which time, despite being made of wax, he pulls the Pandorica from a burning building hit by WWII incendiary bombs. He had a sword-fight with a vampire. He even chinned the bloody Doctor (and earned the Doctor's praise for it)!
...and for me, Rory standing before the Cybermen command, against the backdrop of their exploding battle fleet, and asking "shall I repeat the question?" *CROWNING MOMENT OF UTTER F'ING AWESOME*
His expression at that moment was what made it absolutely perfect. He topped it off with some damned good moments later in the same episode too.
