Not sure. The lack of female character customization and on top of that the statistics for how many possible things you can do proving there was no excuse for lack of female option really puts me off.
But also my main motivation was to play it with my friend who has been waiting for this game for awhile. I still havent talked to him about the lack of women in it though.
Silly reasoning. You'd have missed so many great games throughout history if you ignored them because you couldn't play as a female. Games should be judged first and foremost on their gameplay, and everything else should be secondary. I'd worry about getting more women into positions of political power long before I'd give a damn about them being in video games. If I were invested in gender issues, that is.
No. I am annoyed because it seems like something that would obviously be included and should since cuztomization is a focus. When something is a main point of a game, it should be well done. Yes there are games where you do not play as females, sure. MW2 doesnt. But MW2 also does not promote how customizable it is. (Since aesthetically it isnt)
What if there was a new GTA game with only 10 different total vehicles? Sure they are of higher detail than they used to be, but would that not severely hinder the game overall? Would it make the game unplayable? No. But it really takes away from the games flavor and lessens the experience. Not having female character models may not spell the games end, and it may still be fun, but Im sure that lacking them will hinder the game from getting to a higher point that it could have gotten to. Gameplay is important. If it was shoddy but still had females, it would be worse than it may be now (assuming the gameplay is good), but flavor matters. Bioshock plays well, but it had a great flavor to it that enhanced the game significantly. It did not have a female character choice, but it never suggested it would. But it did have a interesting variety of plasmids for example. Could have gotten rid of many of them, and it would have played well, but I think it would suffer for many of us.
