I think you provided your view to some controversial topics if people wish to view it as a troll that is there own thing. However, I feel that you presented your argument, gave counter examples that were well structured and not (for the most part)random spouts of hate. Once more you presented these facts and still stood by your own beliefs. You may have an edge when it comes to writing thesis' in college. And that's all coming from a MLP fan (not quite a brony), and a COD dabler (not one who obsesses about it). I will make one note just for knowledge's sake, that there are people out there who do try to shove things down other people's throats and it gives a bad reputation to the other people in the fan base. An example for "none provoked COD throat shoving" would be how a friend of mine was talking to a classmate about how they both loved video games, when suddenly one of the more obnoxious COD fans turned around and yelled out to them "You dudes like video games!? I bet I could kick your pansy-asses at Call of Duty!!" So yes, unfortunately there are just those kinds of people out there and we have to take the heat for there mistakes.
Wasteland just sounded like a pretty cool idea, never even seen much of the original and don't care. It just sounds like good fun, lighten up bro.
About MW3, the reason its disrespected is mostly because the people who want the kind of games they like which are NOT cod feel as though investors will only create first person shooters set in modern day due to cod's success and instead of blaming investors the more accessible hate figures are the people who play that kind of game. Furthermore the people who do like cod often find it difficult to defend it on an internet forum because they haven't learnt to read.
So anyway the answer is that hate of COD is a reflexive fear response bought about by ones attachment to their other beloved genres.
Honestly, I'm not too sure what the opinion is I'm supposed to be looking for and judging here... A rant about internet people making fun of others? Honestly dude, life becomes much easier if ya just let people say what they want to say and if it happens to just be a bunch of crying, them shrug it off and keep on going. You can just as easily ignore them as they can ignore you.
Of course, if I totally missed the point then don't mind me and enjoy your day.
The main point here is basically hypocrisy. People call bronies mindless, people call COD fans mindless when they too are just being mindless haters. It really grinds my gears.
I have noticed this quite a bit, Especially in relation to COD I think it's because it's an easy target we won't get called out for hating on, and that makes us feel superior to all the other 'sheeple' and special (To be honest I've been guilty of doing it before as well)
Also you're only 13? Wow, that initial comment was better structured, more locially thought out, and better researched than the huge majority of other ranty discussion posts I've seen here by people I know are a lot older. Well done sir.
Agree with most of it. One thing I feel like commenting on though.

1) Pretty much everyone on here either loves or hasn't played "Wasteland". Which is a 20 year old, no sound, hardly any graphics hardcore RPG. It was made by Interplay, who have now shut down due to a MASS of stupid mistakes. Now, 20 years later the original developers (not sure though) have made a kickstarter fund for Wasteland 2. I bet a LOT of people from here donated to that. Yet, you haven't seen any gameplay, any concept art, and indication of what it shall look like, any info other than "It's wasteland 2!" and you are riding on the hope that Interplay is as good as it was, which is highly unlikely. Yet you still donated because of the hope that you might get basically the exact same Wasteland game, just with better graphics. You probably don't want it to change, or get more streamlined, or become easier, or reach out to a bigger audience because YOU want it to be a hardcore RPG. Even if it means that noone will buy Wasteland 2 because it's so hard and out dated with today's standards because it needs to be exactly what every RPG was like in the 80's.
Wasteland 2 isn't being developed by Interplay. It is being developed by people who used to work at Interplay, true, but these people are what made Interplay good in the first place. Modern Interplay has nothing to do with Wasteland 2.
Your right, we haven't seen much of anything about it. Which means we have to look at the people making it. The people making it have had a hand in making some of the best RPG's of old. There's serious talent behind this game, which is a good sign. There's also the fact that Fargo has been planning this game for about 20 years. And most likely has a good idea about what he wants to make.
And Wasteland 2 doesn't need to appeal to as large an audience as possible. Fargo said he wanted to make an old-school RPG, asked people to pay $1,000,000 for it, and people payed $3,000,000 for it. This isn't about making money, it's about making a game he wants to make. And it seems there's a crapload of people who are more than willing to pay a lot of money to play the game he wants to make.
If people are willing to pay $3,000,000 to get an RPG that's like 80's/90's RPG's, why shouldn't they get it?
And yet you would faint from excitement [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/7.335458.13545014] from the announcement of a game which has even less information about it than Wasteland 2.
Even if you don't think it, the entirety of the OP boils down to hypocritical flamebaiting. This thread should just be locked.
I agree, we are also ALL guilty with it. I admit I am a mindless hater of Macs and most new music, but the difference between me and the people I was talking about is that I'm barely ever vocal about it, whereas a LOT of mindless haters are.
Wait, that doesn't make any sense. If you know that your hatred of something is completely baseless, then why would you keep hating it anyway? That's insane. It doesn't matter how vocal you are about it, it's still insane.
PS: Can we please stop over-using the word hate so much? It's making this ridiculous extremist culture, where if someone isn't a fan of something, then they automatically are said to "hate" it. That's also batshit insane. I don't care for Justin Bieber's music, but I have nothing against the guy.
Oh, I get it! Because it's like he's a girl! You are SOOOO funny, Random Dipshit. SO FUCKING FUNNY.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure overuse of the word "hate" is a big part of the problem you're talking about in the first place. The Escapist community seem to think that you can hate something or love it, but nothing else.
Incidentally, I agree with you completely. These guys are rarely as....sophisticated....as they think they are.
1. Never played Wasteland. Only played the demo, was good. Was also young, couldn't buy game. Haven't contributed to kickstarter, will check out Wasteland 2 if it gets made.
2. CoD is a good game. It's just the same game with new maps.
3. MLP is something that should be kept to a User Group. It has nothing to do with gaming and is not interesting enough to be on off-topic. It also has a strong missionary outlook, the fanbase does at least.
We can tell you are 13 (or derpy enough to successfully troll it, you apply one broad opinion to the whole community).
Edit:
Anyway, I'm pretty sure overuse of the word "hate" is a big part of the problem you're talking about in the first place. The Escapist community seem to think that you can hate something or love it, but nothing else.
I love how people say "this is the internet, nice to meet you" and act like it's actually an intelligent retort to this post. It's like someone saying "yes I'm a close minded, intolerant fundamentalist, who bashes people for supporting something that they like just because it has a certain brand name before moving on to support something just because it has a certain brand name that's how the world works. Why should I take any criticisms or change what I do, no one else is doing it, why should I better myself?" Oh the internet, it's just so lovely. Being an intolerant jerk is ok! ...............
Well, I see the Escapist as a toned down 4chan and less-circle jerky than Reddit's r/gaming. You can have massive amounts of discussion value here, but people tend to ***** about what's bad in gaming where instead have something positive to say. I haven't been on Escapist for a few weeks now, and I see that the forums haven't changed much. A lot of people ***** about EA, but wind up buying their crap anyways. Going on the internet to complain about something is a common tradition dating all the way back to the internet's early years. "As long as no one sees my face, I can become an asshole."
Call of Duty is a perfect example. Anyone who says that they enjoy playing it will basically have a bad time in ANY discussion forum. I remember posting a why-I-like-Black Ops link in Reddit and it was downvoted to Hell and they called me a retarded 12-year old. Apperently, they don't mind karma-whores and reposts getting to the front page but when someone presents something with discussion value, it will receive 22 up-votes at best. 4chan's /v/ board brings TON of discussion value and original content and ideas, IF you're a PC gamer. Anything other than that will result in "OP is a fag" and "PC gamer: Master Race" image posts and basically getting trolled like a MF-er.
As for Wasteland, I tried it and got bored around after the 20-minute mark. I can see Fallout's roots in there, but calling it better than the Fallout series is a great exaggeration. Wasteland 2 will have to be worth the wait, since all the fanboys are saying it will be better than all of the Fallout games combined. *cough* Duke Nukem related *cough*. Also, Kickstarter is being abused quite a bit recently, don't you think?
I'd say the MLP community is one of the best and creative communities on the internet. Literally thousands of fan-fiction and comics and original content has been made and the fans aren't trolls or act like assholes. Yes, as you can see from my avatar, I'm a brony. If you hate the brony community that much and can't stand to see a pony thread, welcome to the internet. Yeah, there's the MLP user group, but it's mostly chat. I haven't posted in the chat for a very long time; not because I got bored, but because I have a greater time in Reddit's r/mylittlepony. When people ***** about MLP threads, they're basically saying "THIS TOOK UP AN INCH OF SCREEN SPACE AND IT MILDLY INCONVENIENCED ME SO IT MUST DIE!".
All in all, I find the Escapist as a better discussion group other than Reddit's r/gaming and 4chan's /v/ board. I have a nicer time here to discuss gaming and I think I will post more in the future. This isn't aimed at you, ToastiestZombie. I just wanted to get that crap off my chest for some time now, and your post inspired me. I got a little bit off-topic a few times.
Isn't it nicer when the whole world thinks like you do? This is why being human is so inconvenient. Join the hivemind...
[sub][sub]While there may be some mindless hate, some of us hate after giving things a shot. COD no longer gets any of my money after trying out my friend's copies of their latest offerings. I just don't like the games.[/sub][/sub]
