I think of Yahtzee as more of a comedian than a reviewer-His reviews always make me laugh, even if I'm against absoloutley everything he has to say. A lot of his complaints are well grounded, but a lot are exaggerated too.

"It usually swings both ways, with people clinging on to his words like it was passed down from God himself, or with people hating ever last syllable that he utters."

This is a natural result of people forming their own opinion and afterward being as dramatic/passionate as they can about it. This is sort of the answer to "why do we all agree with Yahtzee" right there.

When i've played a game that Yahtzee's done on ZP and i've seen the same episode i remember what he's talked about when encounter certain situation's and think to myself "huh so he was right." That's my feelings about him and his style, i know in the end he's a critic and is supposed to rip games apart but there are times where his points are valid and they become noticeable by me when playing the games.

I agree with most of the problems he has with games, but I don't share his opinion on all games(Smash Brothers, Bad Company 2,)while others I haven't even played. He points out the problems that are irritating in those games.

I don't always agree with what Yahtzee says, in fact I've noticed that he has a tendency to contradict himself. I'd actually call him out on that if I thought he'd actually listen to me.
The only thing he's said that I particularly loved and agreed with is the line about fans being clinging complaining dipshits, 'cause they are; esp around here.

Wake up sheeple! Hahaha, jk. He's a critic, he criticizes. It's his opinion, not mine, and though I may use ZP as a litmus test on whether I buy a game or not-it's only one factor.

I laugh my arse off at Yahtzee most weeks with his hilarious observations and his ever-increasing array of fucking weird and disturbing metaphors...

And for the majority of times he's had a gripe against something I too have found that gripe to be mutual.

But unlike Mr. Croshaw, I just can't find Psychonauts fun...
I just can't do it.

I'm ready for my mass-internet-paddling now...

(For Elaboration, I like the ideas and things I've heard about Psychonauts, I just can't enjoy it as a game.)

I agree with everything he says, because when he has complaints about a game those points are usually justified. But I still buy alot of the games he has reviewed. Why? Because if I enjoy a game enough i look over all of the obvious bugs and formalities it has. Everyone knows that no videogame is perfect in any right.

Unskippable sucks. How is that one of the most popular series? I would agree with Apocalypses Lane or maybe Escape to the Movies at a stretch but never Unskippable.

It'd seem wierd not to agree with him, his critism is often right. Its just his humorous jokes make people forget that.

I'm pretty sure Yahtzee would agree with me that a lot of you are completely blank and tend to act on impulse. Yahtzee is a man I can appreciate - for the most part. He's very critical and points out flaws that no other critic will admit. However, he's like a messiah to those with no thought process in the inner workings of your brain. My only complaint about this is that because of this, you act like he's the law and anything he doesn't like is your new agenda of the day. I hope he decides he hates breathing so a handful of you drop dead.

Team Fortress 2 (a game that really...blows) is treated like treasure. Same with anything Bioware puts out now days. In fact, I didn't like Mass Effect. It was very slow, awkward, and seemed a bit lacking. I liked the KOTOR series but that's because I like Star Wars in general. I have never personally played Dragon Age but watching friends play it, it doesn't seem that amazing.

I have a mild taste for JRPG's, yet, you all act like people like me have AIDS. Such as the recent topic of those agreeing that "Bioware is right about Final Fantasy XIII not being an RPG." Really? If you agree with this company then you need to pick up a book and start reading because you are flawed in multiple ways.

I am inclinded to think that Yahtzee is trying to take a different approach at his videos. I remember laughing hysterically at his older videos, but it seems like today he's trying to hit the oblivious points rather than his effort at trying to be funny. Don't get me wrong, I laugh an average of four times in every episode he's ever published. I just feel like lately his videos are more of a stab at companies in general than anything.

To be honest I haven't played most of the games he's reviewed and of the ones I have there are very few that I get to play before he reviews them so there are a lot of games I start playing while considering Yahtzee's comments, but I find that it doesn't affect my enjoyment of a game.

The few times I do play a game first I do find it interesting when he picks up on something that I also noticed. Most recently it was FF13. Now I enjoyed that game so clearly I don't agree with him but I found it hilarious when he mentioned how loud Lightning's footsteps were because that had really irked me when I played too.

As far as valuing Yahtzee's opinion I never let him prevent me buying a game - if there's a game I want or think I'll like I'm going to buy it whatever he says and most likely enjoy it. Likewise if I know I won't like a game I won't buy it on Yahtzee's suggestion.

However, I find that when a game falls somewhere in between, either I don't know much about it or I don't have very strong feelings about it then I will sometimes consider what he has to say. I'm hardly going to rush out to buy a game he pans (admitedly that doesn't leave many) unless I hear very differently from somewhere else. And I have bought a game I perhaps wouldn't have otherwise bought had he not reviewed it, but I do my research first anyway. It's more that he brings a game to my attention than that he outright sells it to me in 5 minutes.

Agree or don't with Yahtzee but I don't think it's entirely fair to take this opportunity to take the piss out of him because of his negativity in his reviews. Yahtzee focuses on the negatives in games because that's what makes us laugh and he's said that many times. It's entertainment with a pinch of serious critique thrown in for intellectual flavor.

Personally, I don't blame him for being picky even if I don't suffer from the same ailment. Much of the negativity from critics in general can be attributed to the fact that games stop being fun the moment you are forced via paycheck to play them obsessively in order to finish a 20+ hour game in less than 5 days. Getting paid to play "Infamous" and give your opinion on it seems like a dream come true but for every "Infamous" there is at least one "Dora the Explorer" or "Alone in the Dark" that you have to plow through with the exact same intensity because just saying "it blows" in your review column won't get you hired back next term.

In truth it's impossible to make a game that will please everybody all the time so it's best to take his complaints and decide if such a thing would bother you enough to make the game stop being fun. You know, like you do for all other game critics.

I like Yahtzee a lot, I don't agree with a lot of what he says, but his videos are at least entertaining. I don't have many problems with him what I do have problems with is the fact that so many people will endlessly parrot what he says like they're a fricken genius for doing so. Its sad and irritating but I don't blame him, because if it wasn't him it'd be someone else they'd copy.

He knows what he's talking about and often makes at least one or two very salient comments. I certainly don't always agree with him but I can usually see where he's coming from on the negatives he comments on. In the end, of course, it's an opinion. There really is no "right" or "wrong."

I also think his Extra Punctuation is worth a read whether you like him or not. He often goes into a lot more detail there about some of the points he makes in his reviews and it helps "cut through" the extra vitriolic comedic acid to explain his thoughts in a way he can't do in a video.

I often feel that the points he makes are at least understandable. While I don't completely agree with his reviews, and have enjoyed a few of his worse-reviewed games (such as Mirror's Edge, despite the annoying interior levels), he often makes valid points, just with added hyperbole.

I've learned not to go to him to see if I'd like the game or not, though I admit I put him on a bit of a pedestal when I first found this site. I still look forward to his reviews, if for more of a laugh than anything. But to answer the question, I do tend to agree with him, even if he does it in a bit of an over-the-top manner.

What annoys me the most is when I make a point of my own about a game and if yahtzees said it before your automatically labelled as a follower like you dont have a mind of your own.

Well, in the same way that we laugh when the Daily show or the Colbert Report is on, we laugh when we watch Yahtzee in a "It's funny because it's true" fashion. Not to say it's the truth, but the allegories Yahtzee makes are themselves very hilarious.

i basically account for his sarcasm and hatred for games i've played and translate it to games i haven't, thus by comparison i can tell whether or not i may like the game based on his review. in short, i don't cling on his every word but i do value his opinion.
