From my personal experience, while everybody says they hate the song, the number of people who not only listen to it, but have memorized the whole thing says that they actually like it but wont admit to it cause that would be uncool. So my conclusion is that anyone who says they hate the song is probably a tool.
That being said I don't find it significantly better or worse than all the stuff you hear on pop radio stations.

I think it's because her family paid for the song and video, if I remember right she didn't really write the lyrics to the song. That and it goes to show you, that you don't need talent to be famous, just pay a studio to do it for you.

Because she's balls at singing.

Or, as my friend puts it: "It's a bad song by a bad singer edited badly."

Why all the hate? Sexism, Rockism, anti-Pop bias, and hipsterism.
All true.

I would also add the impotence, self-righteousness and jealousy of those involved in said haterism. They WISH they could do something, good or bad, to get noticed--but they can't, all they have is the internet to RAEG ON!!!

Ironically they fail to realize just how impotent, self-righteous and jealous they look by picking on (and clearly being threatened by) a fourteen year old girl.

Meanwhile I lols at them.

Eh speak for yourself tool, I heard the song a few times (my room mate loves to mess with me) and I don't like it nor do I barely remember the words to it (Hell I know all the parts to The Friendly Faith Plate just from sound cues). Besides your logic makes no since, since we all know about Hitler and what he did I guess we are tools for hating him (I INVOKE THE INTERNET LAW about nazi's). People can hate something and know what it is about, because it's either one of two things

A:I hate it, but I didn't watch it
Response: WELL YOU DIDN'T WATCH SO YOU CAN'T HATE IT ROAROAORAOR

B:I hate it after watching it
Response: WELL YOU WATCH IT SO YOU MUST LIKE IT BUT HATE IT CAUSE IT'S COOL YOU TOOL RAOROAORORA

People want to find people to hate and will use the stupidest things to justify it. Being bad at singing isn't any real reason to hate someone. At the very most people should be indifferent towards her. But haters are gonna hate, and they'll take whatever reason they can to make themselves not look like bad people.

The autotune thing is hardly new though. Voiceboxes are used in music often, and have been used for many, many years. Autotune is more like the... "toy version" of what has been used. It's far more obvious.
I didn't mean to defend it, I hate "cheating" in music with a passion, it goes against everything I want to do and everything I stand for as a (non-employed/non-professional ;_;) musician.

The hate is irrational, but the REASON for the hate is that the song that made her famous is...well about the most objectively terrible, horribly executed song out there. You can hate pop music, for example, but it still largely succeeds at being pop music. Friday fails at everything. Putting aside the singing ability, the lyrics boggle the mind, and weird bits of autotune are terrible. Like, not terrible because Autotune is terrible, but terrible at being autotune. Personally, I think its reasonable to say that an adequate singer is beneath all the trash, but the fact that such a horrible song is layered over the top is downright embarrassing. Bad enough to color all future perceptions of the singer. Its like how Mark Hamil was always Luke Skywalker, Black will always be the girl who made the horrible, "Friday". She could make the next "Stairway to Heaven", and she will still be remembered for "Friday".

Why does "Bad singer" turn to "hated"? Well half of it is because people take there music way too seriously, and the other half is that complaining about pop music gives indie cred within pretty much any genre of music fandom.

you are aware that you are talking about the reactions at the web?
the place where everypony feels tough and strong and awesome and cool because they can hide behind some mask they somehow feel the need to present?

i believe that is quite self-explanatory ^^

also, no need to kill her (as the first solution). just make her stop making "music" and "singing". because that IS aweful. (the reason why i don't do it in public :p )

Seriously, why do people hate her so much? I've read a ridiculous amount of death threats in the comments section of her YouTube music videos, and I find it to be absolutely absurd. Don't get me wrong, I'm not personally a fan of her music, but her voice did sound pretty good when she sang a few lines from the US National Anthem on that interview.

Granted, they did use auto-tune in her song "Friday", but that shouldn't totally ruin her credibility as a talented singer. What do you guys think?

EDIT: Oh fuck... I just had to click that red button, didn't I?
"Why yes he used anabolics during the olympics to win, but that shouldn't ruin his credibility as a talented sportsman!"

The ***** is nothing special, the solo singers in my school choir sing better than her and they don't get national attention and a music video on MTV. She's just some of those money harvesters for her record company. She will be forgotten in c.a. 5 years. No big deal.

Friday friday friday, gonna kick in this *****'s teeth on friday...

While I see no need for the death threats, I think the main reason people dislike her is born from the hatred towards the Ark music factory. I have not heard much of Rebecca Black, except from the afore mentioned Friday video and her new song (I forget it's name) and I haven't really sought anything relating to her out, with the exception of Brock's dubs on Youtube (I find his stuff hilarious) but she might be very talented with a nice voice (again, that is conjecture on my part) but all people are going to see is a little rich girl who tried to pay her way to fame on the back of a badly written song mainly sung through the use of auto tune. I think people like their singers to have talent, which is something that you can't buy. That, and the internet allows you to be anonymous, and some people take full advantage of that by going to extremes (i.e posting death threats) and generally being rather unpleasant.

As shes a talentless, vacuous child who for some bizarre reason is making music that noone wants her to make- I dont get why she's carrying on.
But it must be said the hate does go too far, I mean death threats? thats a touch ridiculous.
Speak for yourself. If "This Is My Moment" is the direction she's going, then let her make more, by all means.

Still better than Friday.

Pointless, stupid, makes you look like a tit and it is not needed

For a singer to use Auto-Tune would be like a golfer using a laser guided ball

I agree with everything you've said. Hate the cookie cutter song and not the singer.
Cookie Cutter? That song was so deep I almost drowned! I thought it was shallow until I saw this video, now, I am a changed man.

BTW - Friday wasn't that bad. Her new one stinks.

"She's no big deal, I'm gonna physically assault her."

That's not remotely funny, it's just confusing and double-minded.
