Why all the hate when I say I don't like the Beatles?

Lol, the people you know are apparently idiots. I don't want the Beatles and my eardrums to have any sort of relationship and the people I know just accept it. But when I also say I can't stand Metallica......that's when i get funny looks. Still nothing compared to how you're apparently treated.

Those people are real assholes, but it is an objective fact that the Beatles are one of the most influential bans of all time. They are a huge reason why rock and roll is as prolific and diverse as it is now and while you have every right not to like them, I think you should know that none of those 'sex' bands would have existed without the Beatles

So, Beatles fans, are you all this insane? Are my two friends and the one teacher just wierdos?

My experience is that for some reason, The Beatles seem to bring out the dickishness in people. Yes they were very influential, but that doesn't mean we all have to like them- after all, they gave us The Monkees- the first manufactured boy band.

If it's any consolation, I really don't like The Beatles at all. A couple of their songs are pretty cool and they did a great deal of experimentation, but musically, I think they're overrated in addition to not being to my taste.

That and I just hate Paul McCartney.

I prefer The Rolling Stones to the Beatles. I have never come across anyone as crazy as that.

I prefer Simon & Garfunkel when talking about that kind of music. Surely they've had a massive impact in everything, but I can't say I'm an actual fan.

I know how you feel.

I genuinely DESPISE the Beatles...not just dislike, but downright loathe them.
And I think Star Wars is stupid. How do you think all of my friends treat me?

Woah, I tend to pretend I like The Beatles more than I do to avoid hassle, but those reactions seem pretty damn extreme o_O

I don't know, am I childish if I think The Beatles lose some of their appeal by being regarded as so flawless? I mean, it's like people adore them on principle. It's not that I think their music is bad, I just feel that it's so much worse than people make it out to be, which kind of makes me annoyed by them. I should probably just ignore it.

The Beatles are highly overrated. I don't care what anyone says. Sure a few songs are decent, but they are not "Gods" like some idiots claim. They are the New Kids on the Block/Boyz 2 Men/Backstreet Boys/Justin Beiber of the 60s. They just played the semi-talentless boy band thing relatively first.
You are waaayyy off the mark with that comment. The Beatles are better then "New Kids on the Block/Boyz 2 Men/Backstreet Boys/Justin Beiber" because of how influential they are in all rock music made since the 60's. And sure, they had musical influences too and they weren't entirely fresh, but they were fresh enough to inspire and influence many types of music to this very day. It's not that they were perfect, but they changed the direction of popular music in the 60's, and that's something that no "semi-talentless boy band" has ever done.

I don't get the interest in The Beatles. I find their music bland and boring.
Everyone says they revolutionised music and the rock scene, but I just don't see it. If it wasn't them, it'd have been another band. Plus, I don't at all count them as a rock 'n' roll band. There was a tribute band to The Beatles on at Sonisphere (UK) and I didn't realise that a band could be SO out of place.

Everyone's entitled to their opinions, but I suspect some people jump on the bandwagon because they think they SHOULD like the music. I'm not saying your teacher and friends are wrong for liking The Beatles, but their reactions seem extremely unnecessary and OTT. No one should get ANGRY at someone else because of their musical tastes; it's all subjective. I love Lacuna Coil, but if you hate them, I wouldn't be angry at you, I'd just accept it as a difference of opinion. Who cares?

And all of this, coming from an English person! Well I never!

They had some great songs, but most of it is garbage (600+ songs they cant all be gold). So I don't see a problem with you not liking the Beatles. Music is a matter of tastes. Personally tho i love the Beatles Music they play on the radio :)

I love Michael Jackson's Music, buts its apparently taboo to like his stuff now or something. \(o_O)/ Next to Coca Cola and McDonald, MJ is the most famous figure in the world at one point :p

Bit harsh of your friends there yes The Beatles where a highly popular and influtential musicians but your intitled to your opinion.Personally I absolutly love The Beatles, didn't always like them, what with being born in Liverpool your kinda surrounded by The Beatles and the culture surrounding the band nearly all the time but they grew on me the more i listened to them.

It's okay not to like The Beatles if you don't like them, just as any other band, however don't complain if i come round and force you to listen to Sgt. Pepper constantly to help 'correct' your opinion ;)

Oh never say you don't like The Beatles in Liverpool you don't want to know what happens to those people

I don't like them and people around here don't possess the ability to comprehend that not everyone likes that they think they should like. Just like people I've come across that can't comprehend that some people don't believe in god. I even work with some 40 year old women that things I go to some "agnostic classes" which are supposed to be like church for non-believers or some shit?

People just get massively uppetty about stuff like this. Plus there's a lot of people who only like the Beastles (or claim to) because of their legendary status.

Case and point: guy called Jamie I used to know. He insulted someone endlessly for a week because they don't like the Beatles, at which point I asked him to name ANY Beatles song. He said "Yellow Submrine". When asked for another, he told me to go fuck a computer's USB port, and stormed off.

My point with this random anecdote is that people are just stupid assholes. You allowed to like or not like whatever you want, and if they insult you over it just ignore the bastards, as they obviously haven't figured out the meaning of the word "opinion"

I think this is exactly what OP was talking about.
You guys might be right, but I am basing my opinion here on the Beatles songs I've heard, which is probably 10 at most.
