I like the Modern Warfare games.
However, I dislike when repetition leads the industry to a crawl.

Hate the people, not the game. A good example of the horrors that these people commit is seen in the now-free TF2.

"OMG WHY IS THAT NOOB HARDSCOPING?"
"360 NOSCOPE LOL. WHAT, HOW DIDNT YOU DIE?!"
"NO SCOPES ARE SHIT"
"THIS GAME IS BROKEN"

I hear these things -ALL THE TIME-. I mean, sure, ive got 300 hours into the game, and these kids have about one, but there is no excuse for how they act.

Seriously, this crap again? I mean... SERIOUSLY!? This has been done hundreds, thousands... MILLIONS time over (Ok, I may be bending the numbers a bit there). Maybe "all the hate" is because people have different opinions and tastes than you do. There is plethora of more specific reasons already expressed, if you use the search bar.
Yes, it has been done thousands of times. But then you realize that there are even more "CoD sucks, boo hoo" threads.
I know, and I extend my furious dismissal in their direction as well. My main quarrel is that people just don't use the search bar.
I'm kind of sick of seeing this complaint.

Seriously, who cares?

You know what, I'll make posts without checking the search bar, straight up, I can promise you every post I make I won't check.

Want to know why?
Because when I make a post I want a discussion about whatever it is. I don't want to just read someone else's discussion that isn't worded even close to the way I would say it, and that totally lacks any of me in it, and has been dead for a while.

Screw that. And screw people who enter into threads just to complain they've already seen the thread before.

Just ignore the bloody thing, let the people post what they want and stop being a forum-cop, it's just above mall-cop, but below shit-eating-bacteria on the chain of life.

Games like Call Of Duty and Battlefield are like pop music. It's popular to hate on it, you can't go anywhere without hearing about it, and it's all the fucking same.

A lot of the hate comes from the fact that MW2, Black Ops, and most likely MW3 is just more of the same thing.
I hate this response more than any. This excuse hasn't worked on a plethora of games in the past, from the Mario platformers to the Half-Life sequels. "More of the same" is not a bad thing. The problem is when it's not a very good thing...

...Call of Duty, for those iterations, was just kind of a little bit shit. I think Call of Duty 4 was the pinnacle of single-player modern warfare shooters... the storytelling was tense and unique and the variety inherent in the gameplay was palpable. Modern Warfare 2 had hardly any of that (the first mission was like a retarded James Bond opening scene, eurgh, what happened to sneaking through heavily radiated Chernobyl ruins... oh well LET'S LAND THIS SWEET JUMP WEE), Black Ops had less... and Modern Warfare 3 is going in the same direction, evidently.

So I posit to you - it's not because they're the same thing. It's because they're all equally horrible.

(Oh look, it's this thread again.)

...

Eh, I don't hate Modern Warfare. I'm not a fan, and I consider it severely overrated, but I don't think it warrants hatred.

If it's any consolation, the 'hater' camp is a very noisy minority, even on these forums. Whenever it gets put to a poll, the majority of votes land somewhere around "I like it" or "It's OK". Although I suppose there could be some sort of sample bias at work there.

At the end of the day, everything is hated by somebody. Just enjoy your game and try to ignore the chorus of online whining. You'll be better for it.

People are typically vocal when they dislike popular or controversial things in the media. You don't hear a ton of hate against The Fight: Lights Out or Kung Fu Panda 2 games for PS3.

I've only played MW1 out of the games released and I found it excellent. I'd buy more of them but I only play for the single player experience and they are a little too expensive for me to justify.

Some people seem to like being extremely vocal about things they personally dislike.
And that particular series does display some of the things that are wrong with the games industry at the moment, namely sequels, homogeneity and an overriding focus on multiplayer.

That's my two cents, anyway.

Well, I can definitely see the difference between what I used to think and what I've learned. From what I've read around here I was almost scared to post anything about Modern Warfare due to the fear of being sought out and destroyed for liking a game that a few people seem to detest with a passion. Yeah, I realize this thread has probably been made a bajillion times already and for that I apologize. I'll try not to make the same mistake in the future.

I hope it was intentional, because it's the most awesomely random response ever.

Because it's popular, and it's "cool" to hate popular things.

And I don't buy into the "more of the same" crap. Every GTA since the third was more of the same, and people love it. Every Metal Gear game has been more of the same. Every Halo, God of War, Gears of War, etc etc etc have been more of the same.

Because they're sequels. They change enough to be fresh, but are similar enough that it's still the same franchise you like.

And not succumbing to the current trend of COMPLETELY changing a games formula is just a safe move. I don't think the next Call of Duty will be a kart racer, and I'm glad for it.
Objection: I don't care about how popular it is. I care about how little fun I find it to be. Along with Halo. And Gears of War. Haven't tried the others you listed. And, yes, the more of the same argument does apply. The guns are (to my mind) functionally the same. The mechanics are designed to be dull, and reduce tension. It isn't interesting.

Also, I'm somewhat offended that your first defence was to assume we were all jumping on a bandwagon because it was cool, not because we genuinely agreed with it.

IT'S A SPAMBOT KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT

Actually, it may not be but if you take that broken something as a link, it looks pretty damn spam-botty.

OT: I'm just sad that CoD became the biggest game evar while things like Gubble weren't even radar blips.

Haven't this been asked/brought up a thousand times already?
And it will be a thousand more, because people are too self-important to search.

And honestly, "why all the hate?" In general could be answered easily if people stopped to think. Not just for COD, but for just about anything out there.

"Hey remember Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare?"

"Yeah I do. It was amazing. Simple as that."

"Cool, let's release some DLC and charge people the price of a full game while only adding new guns and a few new gadgets!"

"That's great! Maximum profit for minimum effort!"

If these games were $20 (Merica dollars) DLC then they'd be fantastic "FOR DLC." Imagine if HL2 Ep 1 and 2 were full priced games. People would probably be pretty angry.

Well, I know -I- hate the people. I love MW2...saying anything else would be a lie. But I hate the people that play it. Quick-scopers (cheating), noob tubers, AA-12 "shotgun", and the machismo meatheads.
I completely understand that. No gamer group has every pissed me off more then the MW crowd. Even more than Gears.
Well, you have to agree that Metro is kind of an aquired taste. It's got great atmosphere but on a technical level, it was downright horrid. Now I'm a big fan of the game but I can see why most don't like it.

By the way, if you liked it, and don't mind open-world games with brutal, unforgiving gameplay, give S.T.A.L.K.E.R a try.
