Serious Sam already took over Duke Nukem's shoes ages ago, and development is actually continuing by the original devs. Sure, DNF's vapourware status has been a funny running joke, but it's not like it'll bring back a style of gaming that is otherwise nonexistant in the dreary field of brown shooters.

A topic asking why everyone is talking about DNF....is still talking about DNF. So if it's a problem(I certainly didn't notice if it is) then you aren't really helping it with this.

Just saying.

Because its the Chinese Democracy of the video game world. So much time has been put into it, so much money has been sunk, and the hype for it is ridiculous... But everyone knows its going to suck.

Its funny.

Personally, I just see it as another game I'm really looking forward to. I'm not fanatic about it like many people seem to be.

When I was growing up I played Quake and Doom, and then along came Duke with his incredibly funny one-liners and evil aliens to crush beneath his mighty boot. Or even his dual-wielded mighty boot, one of the most retarded and hilarious melee combinations I have ever seen.

He's Duke FUCKING Nukem! I myself am fully looking forwards to what will hopefully be another politically incorrect shooter filled with tits and alien blood. I have no problem with all the brown shooters, but something which sticks its middle finger up to the PC-brigade will be a welcome distraction.

What the hell is Duke Nukem Forever?
You do realise you're the first person in this thread to fully write out "Duke Nukem Forever" right? In fact, the first instance of the word "Forever" is in your post.

Yes, I get all that, and Serious Sam does all that.

*sigh* I was hoping to get at least a few bites before someone noticed that. Well spotted. :p

Actually, I did. Then I read it again to make sure I wasn't missing something. Apparently, I am anyway. What exactly are you objecting to?

Because it's been in production for a long time, been put on life support, went to the grave and returned shining, heavily speculated and it's Duke Nukem.

Imagine a game being cancelled (it was right?) and in a constant pattern of this for 10 years and then it's finally going to be released! I'm sure you can understand that right?

Serious Sam isn't Duke Nukem. From what I can tell, there are 2 main groups of people that are pumped up about DNF:
-the first group are people that played the Duke games back when they came out. The games were awesome, Duke was awesome and we're beyond excited to see him make a (hopefully) triumphant return.
-the second group haven't played a Duke Nukem game before, or if they have, it was only in the last few years. These people have seen all the news stories about how long it has been in production, and now that it's finally coming out they want to know what all the fuss was about.

It would be like a well-made sequel to Big Trouble in Little China, or a proper Evil Dead 4. Nostalgia is one of the most powerful forces in the universe, next to gravity and compound interest.

Bam.

Also, glad to see I'm not the only one who remembers the "double kick." The really weird thing was that both the weapon and the hotbutton kick aimed towards the center, like Duke was doing a failed dropkick...

I didn't actually know about the double kick until a few years back when one of my mates loaded it onto his computer again and he showed me it. It's still bloody hilarious.
I mean, you can run around while kicking both feet at the enemies.

Its just a throwback to people's nostalgia for the games of the late 90's before Half-Life came along and various other more "sophisticated" FPS games like it. As for me, I didn't care for Duke Nukem then, and I do not care for it now.
