This entire post is brought to you by this ad:

<youtube=3rOzHkTENsk>

I. Don't. Understand.
No one, and I mean no one, not even a freaking tampon enthusiast, gets that excited about tampons, no matter how good the knot at the end of the string is or whatever.
If anything, this ad makes me want to avoid the feminine products aisle all together out of fear of becoming a raving lunatic who drops eggs and faints all over the place.
(I apologise if there are any tampon enthusiasts out there.)

So here's my question: Is there an add you've seen for a product that has just made you, for lack of a better word, rage? Has it made you just want to hurl your shoe at the television out of your hatred for it? Or at least made you mute the television when it comes on?
(Keep in mind that the ad can't be bad because the product itself is bad. It has to be a decent product that they destroyed with an ad, if you know what I mean. )

So, Escapist, have at it while I fall into a pit of despair for being the same gender as the women in that tampon ad. :)

i love ads! the vast majority of them are pretty funny or creative or just awesome. i dont know what this says about me as a person, but your tampon ad made me crack a smile. however, some are just, painful.

If you're posting a thread about an advert on an entirely unrelated forum, then the advert is clearly anything but stupid.

I do agree though, ads have pretty much put me off watching TV for good, but the fact of the matter is they work...

All ridiculous adverts but you always remember them.

The Libra Tampon? Do the other zodiac signs get special feminine hygiene products as well? I can't imagine the Cancer Maxi Pad selling well.

This isn't new; there've been ads which just bug the heck out of viewers all the time. Let's play the TV Tropes game: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DadaAd and http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WhatWereTheySellingAgain may be worth a quick read.

This ad has to be one of the worst offenders. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5zbEsQYMb0&feature=related

Of course, serious business pays attention to this too. Here, Nike drops the ball. http://www.mediapost.com/publications/?fa=Articles.showArticle&art_aid=125854

May I suggest, dear OP, that this has been going on for a long, long time?

Thank you so much for your help on embedding. Haha and if that was really your reaction then it seems the ad must have done it's job, yeah?

And WOW I remember that add! I laugh my ass off when I first saw it and all my guy friends felt SO uncomfortable just watching the man use it...

That ad is possibly the best thing I have ever seen. I would buy whatever those squirrels sold~ That's an example of an ad I can tolerate :)

one of the first pokemon commercials in america showed a bus driver trick pokemon onto a bus then send them to a trash compactor trapping them in a gameboy with them struggling to escape it's confines and the bus driver laughing with glee playing the game

THIS STUPID AD!

Mostly because I was forced to watch it three times during every episode of a show I watched, but also for other banal reasons (might want to watch it yourself before reading on):

I mean, it's all in good fun at first. Great Escape theme, check, flinging beer ingredients into the clouds, check, but then two crazy women decide to get flung into the clouds too

Everyone stops for reflection for a moment, and for a second it looks like it might be some road safety ad about getting carried away ( EDIT Pun NOT intended), and then a reindeer shows up for no reason (though to be fair its sort of a trademark of Toohey's). Then apparently flinging it up too is some sort of brilliant idea, and they do it. The rain comes, and it's beer, and all is well.

They seem to forget though, that the ad suggests that Toohey's Extra Dry is made of Malt, Hops, Yeast, bits of Reindeer... and DEAD HUMAN BEINGS

Now if that isn't downright stupid STUPID advertising I don't know what is.

To appeal to a wider audience.
I mostly just pretend that commercials are supposed to be stupid, sort of like being a parody of themselves.

I think it's pretty obvious that they sacrificed the women and the reindeer to the beer god for some rain.

What do you mean, 'these days?' I'm pretty sure adverts have always sucked, and will continue to suck long, long into the future.
