More to the point, Advertisements as a rule have a terrible lot in life. They're the things that interrupt what you're really interested in, after all. The people behind them know that they have to fight for your attention even before trying to market their product to you (and then they have to make sure that you remember that product). Amusingly enough, this thread asking "why" actually aptly demonstrates the effectiveness of the tactic. You remembered the commercial, you remembered the product and then you helped to give them additional publicity through talking about them. From an exposure angle, that's a job well done right there.
