i want a game that makes you be the villan and watch how much bs comes from the protagonists as they eventually come to defeat me. The odds are too stacked in some cases and the 'good guys' always come out on top no matter how bad it gets; whether it be some lucky event that saves their life or an ally comes back and saves them somehow.

Wesker one of gaming's greatest villains?

I can think of just about a billion other bad guys that got twice as many titles and screen time as him.
Well in that case name them! That's what this thread is for! :p
(Some are not "Bad" but are reacquiring)
Bowser
Gannondorf
Robotnick
Giovanni From Team Rocket
Lance from Elite 4
G Man
CyberDemon (Doom)

Just off the top of my head
Lol good job mentioning Giovanni.
Yeah, Geovanni needs to have some sort of epic return to arms in the next pokemon game.
Agreed. A tale worthy of chronicling it for the ages no less.

Wesker, a great villain? If he were, he'd of killed Chris years ago in Code:Veronica, not just beat him to a pulp every once and a while and hoped that Chris learned his lesson. Also, it is generally unwise to mutate into a spaghetti monster with a giant orange weak spot on your chest.

Regardless of Wesker's gaps in reasoning, is he the only "great villain" who's died off recently? I can't think of anyone else who has died.
Ganondorf got offed in Twilight Princess, though how permanent that will be is in question, and wether they'll just forget about that and bring him back anyways is still debatable.

Because villains are destined to die. And Wesker needs to fucking die FOR REAL by now, he can't cheat death forever.

I'd like to see more games take the Advance Wars approach; kill of everyone, and start fresh. It would be great to see some new characters instead of the same old heroes and villians recycled.

Well if you have to know, Those that hold the power of the triforce can never die. They are reborn,Which is why the zelda timeline is messed up. To those that say Bowser is a bad villain, well he isn't the best but he is awesome, he is a 80s satuday morning villain that always runs away shaking his fist to try again next week. Ganondorf. Bowser and Megatron are my dream team of Vilians XD

Villains have a habit of not doing the decent thing (from the protagonist's point of view, anyway) and staying down. Take Wesker - in Resi 1 he's either killed by Tyrant or decapitated by someone or other and dumped next to the self-destruct. Sephiroth was revived once by a combination of Jenova screwing with Cloud's head and the Black Materia, then again by some androgynous nutcase forcing some Jenova-stuff through his ribcage, ignoring the conventional 'down the throat' method.

And don't get me started on LeChuck.

Gman isn't really a villian as far as I know... perhaps his true identity will be revealed in EP3?

I don't get it. How can we rank G Man as a villain? We're talking about the guy from Half-Life right? We haven't seen him do anything villainous...

And I don't think Lance was really a villain, especially in Silver/Gold/Crystal with the whole Lake Of Rage thing.
Guys read my original post

What I meant was they were reoccurring obstacles you either fight, scorn or get captured by.

P.S: robotnik was never great, only his voice in Sonic Adventure :p
Robotnik, while a silly villain worked for the games mechanics. However, now that Sonic is 3D Robotnik has taken a back seat and lost all credibility as a villain.

Name me one 3D Sonic game were Robotnik was the main Villain, as in he was in control the whole way without being overthrown by the real villain half way through. Sonic Adventure's villain was Chaos. Sonic Adventure 2 was Robotnik's grandfather. The villain in Shadow was an alien race. In Heroes the villain was Metal Sonic. Sonic NEXT had some weird thing trapped in a princess's tears. The Wii Sonic games had brand new enemies as well.

Well, Unleashed he might have been, but I haven't played that one.
The following statement is true: The REAL Robotnik died in Sonic and Knuckles, the Robotnik that comes afterward, i.e. "Eggman" is a robot himself.

Also it could have been a Wesker clone!...

They die so they can come back later in some kind of spectacular fashion.

Make the story more epicccc.

Calling Wesker a great villain, calling anything from the Resident Evil series good is a joke.

I digress, the best "villain" (Although I liked her and would have most likely sided with her) was Kreia, the ability to manipulate people into doing anything she pleased, the barbed wit to tear apart their ego piece by piece, and the confidence to get the job done. Too bad the game sucked because it was rushed out the door.

Kerrigan, The Queen of Blades, might be another candidate.

Would you count 'Rivals' as villians? Such as... Sipher in FFVIII, or Knuckles in the old Sonic games. In my opinion they have just as much credability as any other villian... but are slightly underrated.
