Why are MOST PC gamers full of so much hatred towards Consoles?

By the way, I didn't really ever see PC gamers claim platformers or racing games play better on a PC, and neither have I seen a console player put forth solid arguments on why console gaming (in the realms of FPS, RPG and RTS games, at least) is in any way with its own advantages, all I've seen them do is whine that PCs cost a lot (a myth) and that consoles are easier to use (true, but speaks levels of one's... intelligence, in a way).

Racing games (and for the same reasons, flight simulations) can play better than on consoles, by some legion of margin - you need to fork out large amounts of cash for the controllers however.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/199362/15_ultimate_gamer_chairs.html

Check out those - anyone claiming that that type of setup isn't providing the cutting edge to gaming is simply deluded. Couple one of those setups with a cutting edge machine, and you've essentially got a pared down simulator in your own house.

Of course, "casual" gamers will find that the controller on their console is better than a keyboard + mouse; however, qualiatively the PC is vastly superior, if you have the burning urge to geek out & go nuts on your experience.

I don't think that such dedication is entirely healthy, but if you're going to measure such things, objectively the PC "wins".

It because PC gamers had for the longest time built themselves up in a nice little, secure bubble where they actually were superior in most ways to any current-day console. Right around the time of N64 - PS1 Era, they sensed a looming threat to their preferred gaming system. They still had most points up on consoles, but they saw a change coming.

And then Halo 2 and the advent of Xbox Live happened. And the 2 of the 4 biggest advantages, shooters and multiplayer, suddenly got shotgunned by a man in green armor, and PC gaming started its meltdown.

It only went downhill from there; it became (and still is becoming) increasingly more profitable to develop for consoles than for PCs. And for a while it was really to get all sorts of crazy ideas for games green-lit on consoles, while PC gamers remained rather staunch in what they wanted.

And then another key element of PC gaming's reign got taken away from them; great stories. When things like Jade Empire, Oblivion, etc. started showing up on consoles, something that traditionally been the realm of PC gaming was again lost to consoles.

And now, the final thing which PC gamers hold desperately to is becoming less and less relevant, and thats scary for them. Their technological superiority has long been the cornerstone to their arguments, but now that gap is shrinking, and they are faced with a gaming world where not many people really give fuck that their PC rigs can run Crysis 2 with 8x Anti-Aliasing at max settings at 60FPS.

While PC gaming still has the RTS and MMO market on lockdown, I wouldn't hold my breath for them for long; you know that some ambitious developer out there is looking to make them a big hit out on consoles too, in order to lap up some of that delicious, recurring MMO and RTS money.

And then you combine all this with PC gaming's general "Fuck all y'all" attitude towards everyone, even people who are nice to them, the gaming community as a whole cares less and less about them. Which makes the PC community angrier, which makes people like them less, and on and on.

Of course, the irony is that PC gamers really only have themselves to blame; gamers and devs. wasted almost no time in setting up an "Us vs. Them" situation with PCs and consoles, and PC gamers did almost nothing to stop it, since console gamers really didn't have that kind of influence back then.
this is the reason why pc gamers hate consoles.
it's because of the stupidity of it's users. if this kid right here knew any history about gaming in general or popular franchises and their fall from grace, he would know that many of them were due to consoles.

let's start educating this console peasant shall we?

He claims that xbox live and halo took away from PC? Hrm, well we got halo 2 on pc which sold terribly and we still have online capabilities with pc which are superior in everyway to xbox live and guess what, its free. But since simpletons like yourself choose to have your parents pay for xbox live each month that give companies like Microsoft the idea that people are willing to pay for online. One day other will follow this trend, and it's because of people liek yourself that it exists. Same goes for DLC (which at one point was always free on PC). There's one reason why console gamers are inferior. They have no backbone and buy into everything people tell them.

Next, there's no doubt there's more money in consoles. Of course there is. The general public is getting stupider and lazier in everything they do. Look at the latest testing scores for US schools. Why bother learning how to build a computer for the right price when we can go out and purchase something premade for us. It easier and takes less time, and lacks any real knowledge except what the walmart employee tells us. In the end though, all console owners prolly have a computer and could have easily used the money towards that to subsidize their gaming computer. So its not like they dont have the money. It's because they're too lazy to learn.

You claim we lost great stories. Hrm, we do have Oblivion (the superior version with better textures and greater draw distance) so how did you take away stories? Do you have STALKER, System Shock 2, Deus Ex, World of Warcraft or the upcoming The Old Republic. We have almost every game that console players do and more. But nice try.

And then you contradict yourself by saying we're losing our technological superiority and yet who cares if we can play things with better graphics and frame rates than others??? What?! We are technologically superior and always will be. PC gaming is always evolving, console gaming is stagnant. Learn the difference and you'll know we're always going to be superior.

I'll address everything else you just said with this. We have a fuck you attitude to many because they think we'll accept any shitty product they put out.

Let's look at this shall we.

Rainbow Six once a tactical FPS is now a run and gun. Why? Consoles
Deus Ex which was once a hybrid RPG FPS that had much depth and complexity to its mechanics was then turned into, wow and FPS. What else is new. And when did that happen. OHHH when it moved to consoles.

Ghost Recon - consolized
System Shock 2 - consolized (Bioshock, practically same shit if you've played both)
Splinter Cell - with the latest one, completely bastardized due to the popularity of shooters. thanks consoles.

Must i even go into the withholding content on discs due to DLC argument?
thanks console owners.

Games will always go down in history as being superior on pc. When you guys want to play your halo in 35 years you'll have problems finding an xbox to play it on but guess what? We wont. And we'll be playing it in HD too.

PC gaming HD since the 90's. Console gaming, still not HD.

keep holding game back from it's true potential console.

now that you've been educated. go back and play your xbawks.

You just don't like console shooters, doesn't mean it is flawed. A controller couldn't beat a keyboard at a FPS game but in what universe would people even want to do that anyways?
The universe would be Phantasy Star Universe, the cross platform Action-MMORPG supporting PC, PS3, and Xbox360

i just dont like it when people state how "superior" PC gaming is, and no matter how hard i try to get into it, the PC gaming just hates me to death.

I get Pentium 4 processor? "HAHAHAHA! NOOBZ! IT'S ALL ABOUT DUAL CORE!"
Fine, i get a dual core (not but a year or so later)? "HAHAHAHAHA! NOOBZ! IT'S ALL ABOUT THE QUAD CORE!"

so i say "fuck it!" because PC gaming changes too much for me to afford on a regular basis, while with a console the worst that ever happens is a disc gets scratched because someone was irresponsible with it.

besides that PC gaming has all sorts of non-hardware related issues that make it impossible to deal with. such as installing mods and learning how to use them and how to get your games to run on maximum performance (without lagging) and how to deal with all the ridiculous "DRM".

seriously? i hate when people try to claim that PC gaming is empirically superior when the community is so damn unfriendly to newcomers like that, it's like they think it is SO superior that they don't want any "noobs" mussing up their divine space. >:/ and thats where the arguments start for me, anyways, when people try to convince me to admit to something is superior and then have it kick me in the balls whenever i try to embrace it.

Good to see another old school supporter.

But BBC vs Dragon? The Oric was better than the damn Dragon. ;) SID & FAT AGNUS all the way.

I don't understand, don't most people play games on both? I know I do. I will say one thing, I enjoy shooters on console games more because you can't really use zomg aimbots, wallhax, etc on a console. At least you know no one is cheating.
No one is cheating except for lag switchers. I hate it when I have to deal with them in my 360 shooters.

Edit: Also, On topic:

I play both PC and Console. I like shooters better on consoles. It is more of a challenge.

Have you ever played a fighting game on a keyboard? If you say "why would I want to", same could be said about RTS on consoles.
Precisely! Fighting games are better with a game pad! When they DID put out good fighting games for the PC (FX Fighter, One Must Fall, Etc.) they didn't do very well because keyboard controls sucked. You needed to go buy a game pad and a splitter to get them to be any fun. When Unreal Tournament came out for the PSX the controls were nearly useless. i practiced ALLOT but could never get as good as with a mouse. There is no winner. Some games will always be better on the PC and some will always be better on the Console.

But if you have a gamepad then the experience is the same if not better than a console no?

I don't want to get flamed but maybe its a defense mechanism, since they spent so much money on the PC, they had better feel like they made a right purchase. So they want to have "more fun" than console gamers who paid less.
That's a fallacy, though.
People have computers anyway.
Gaming PCs tend not to be in addition to a non-gaming computer. Ok, mine is, but I'm in the IT business.

Add to that a massive library of games, some 100x greater than any one console, not counting free games and piracy, you can be a PC gamer for less $ than console.
Someone was quoting ridiculous sales figures earlier ... so that means devs who want to make money target consoles, sure.
And shock horror, retail sales figures do not include microtransactions (from sims to runescape to mass effect 2), time cards (millions of people in south korea play starcraft 2 without buying it), small games (as embarassed as I am about facebook "games," those things are scary massive), subscriptions (WoW has 12 million suscribers. How much moneys is that?) or steam.

There are over a billion PC units in the world, and at any one moment it's almost certain more PCs are being used for gaming than all consoles combined.

Just because retail stores think consoles are more popular, or cheaper, doesn't mean they're right.
Well it was just a thought I threw out there, I don't think its the #1 reason. Also the quality of games on PC and Consoles is all opinion anyways. Of course everyone is using a computer, this is 2011. How many PC games are being played is something pretty difficult to find out.

Oh yeah that game rocks. But it isn't really execution based (its a fucking MMO) and the keyboard is for people who don't have a "little keyboard" for their controller.

I think you're taking the loudest minority and saying every PC Gamer is like that. With that logic, every British person is Margaret Thatcher, every American is Texan, and every gamer is a loud nerd. It's not nice to stereotype.

I started gaming on PC, and continued while I had an N64, Gamecube, and Xbox 360. I sold the 360 so now I'm exclusively a PC gamer. I think the main difference between PC and console is that gaming on PC is more competitive, more customizable, and easier to stay with one game for a while. Console gaming, on the other hand, is not customizable, everyone plays on the same level, it's more casual, and you have to buy new games all the time to keep with the crowd.

They both have their strengths. And some genres are better on PC while some are better on console. It all comes down to preference. I sold my 360 because of the Kinect and what it represents for gaming: a slow and steady shift to casual games, where we play "hit the ball with your hands!" instead of Bioshock.
Hey! I'm from Texas, damn it! Oh, who am I kidding. My state embarrasses me sometimes.

I think everything would be better if we just let people play games however they want, whether it be on a console or a PC without judging them or acting all high and mighty. Some people don't want to invest in a PC that is capable of gaming, and some people don't like the limitations of consoles. There should be nothing wrong with that. Just the fact that there are people who love to play games, no matter the platform, should be good enough.

I also see no legitimate reasons being stated as to why they hate console gaming.
Simple answer: bad console ports.

More subtle answer: "This icon indicates that the game is saving. Please do not turn off your computer."
hahahaha, that "more subtle answer" you quoted made me laugh so hard! Brilliant!

I thought that most people who started threads or changed threads into PC VS Console topics were Trolls anyway, usually adapting a profile picture depicting that ironic Aryan-like race of "PC-gamers" from Zero Punctuation and spouting no worthy argumentary points, just rubbish about Auto-Aim and how a mouse is better.
I fnd myself being quite capable of switching from a console-control-pad FPS (probably with Auto-aim) to a PC-mouse-keyboard and not really noticing much of a difference. I can shoot just as well (or badly) in both of them. I honestly can't say i knew about auto-aim til i came to this thread.

GWarface said:
FPS's on consoles is a BIG no-no for me.. If a game needs auto-aim because it lacks proper controls i just dont see a point in playing it, fun as it might be..
question, does auto-aim in consoles extend to the Wii too? you know, where you have to point at the screen to shoot? Just a question that came up into my head as i read this (don't feel obliged to reply GWarface, unless of course you know the answer)

Secondly, yeah, Oblivion sucked without mods on PC. Heres to hoping for TESV benot being screwed up like IV.
Lies, my first experience with Oblivion was on a console and dude did it absolutely rock. However, the PC version was ultimately miles infront due to the mods. I doubt i could really go back comfortably to playing it on a console now that i've played it on PC...but i wouldn't go as far as saying it sucked.

I still don't get entirely the purpose of the word so don't feel i'm insulting you, because i'm genuinly not trying to...UrbanDictionary is unreliable at most times, and especially vague when it comes to the term "hipster".

I have PC, and more then one console. Personally prefer PC to a wide margin.

Anyone who attributes to the "I've got the better equipment" syndrome, or better known as, "I've got the bigger dick" syndrome, is a fool.

(One thing that bothers me , is that you said you were ex.PC, and so of course the title thread is about them. The question could just of easily been about Console players - but not, because that's what you play now. Which means that mostly PC gamers will reply, and people who have an irk against people who use PC. It seems beyond your hardest try not to (unlikely) you still managed to cause some thread rage.)

This soup tastes a bit bitter. (It's okay, where did the bad PC touch you?)

But, all-in-all, in the immortal words of Rodney King - "Can't we all just get along?"

If controllers weren't so awful, I would prefer console gaming as my couch is a whole lot more comfortable than my computer chair.

I just find that the moue and keyboard much better than a controller for pretty much every game I've ever played. That and consoles are so, um, limited in the scope you're able to customize your experience.

It's like using an Apple compared to a PC - if you want it your way go with a PC; if you want the developer to tell you what you want and that you'd better like it, you go with an Apple or Console. Just my opinion though.

I think there's just a bit of a nerdy crowd among PC gamers. The type that don't have much going for them so they pick at anything to make themselves feel superior.
Or they're just the competitive type, similar to those you get on consoles.

I'm not saying PC gamers are all nerdy or competitive, there's just a bit of a vocal minority thing going.

It's not as hard as you think. You buy a game, install it, and play. Any PC you buy in a store for $500 will do the job with nearly every game ever made. You don't even need to know the specs, the game will match it up for you.

Plus a PC is the easiest tool to use the internet with.
well of course i am aware of the PC and internet connection (who isnt?) but my PC in my home cost 1000 dollars (about, and the money came from the government) and it can not run anything more complex than Warcraft 3.

it can't even run World of Warcraft (damn thing wont even start up, which is why i never even started to play WoW) nor Portal, nor Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (unless on the lowest settings), nor Fallout 3, nor, well, anything past 2003 for that matter.

and when i say "run" a game. i really mean "run on the highest settings", because i was used to that up to 2003, now it just pisses me off when things look like shit just because i can not play them the way that the developer wanted me to play it :(
