Call me a pessimistic, old bastard, but what exactly are people looking forward too in 2015? Everything I have seen has been re-hashes or remakes of old concepts and ideas, Even new Ips like the order 1886 and bloodbourne look like depressing brown, grey generic third person shooters/slashers.

Uncharted 4 looks pretty but the same re-hashed ideas from the other series. Can someone make me understand why people excited? name one AAA game that looks set to 'blow us away'this year

With the exception of the oculus rift I cant think of anything I'm looking forward too, it all looks the same as 2014 to me? same broken game trends likely to continue, DLC, season passes etc.

...or maybe I'm a miserable old sod, but someone restore my faith please.

Well, both the Xbox One and PS4 have a pretty big year ahead of them (in terms of quantity anyway). The Wii U finally looks impressive. Vita is not dead yet. There's always something good on the horizon if you've got a decent PC. And, you know, looking forward to things and being all excited is just part of the fun of gaming :)

Nothing really I mean I am interested to see what the Oculus and Morpheus etc bring to the table but game wise cant think of a thing except Xenoblade Chronicles X. Then again last year I was only excited for Persona 4 Ultimax, Bayonetta 2 and Guilty Gear Xrd (once I knew it was coming out) and none of them disappointed so it was good.

That said I have already had 2 excellent gaming experiences this year in Saya no Uta (amazing VN) and Dreamfall Chapters while Transistor er was not for me but 2 out of 3 games so far is pretty damn good even if one doesnt have really any gameplay. Thing is although there might not be much that is getting me excited I am almost certain there will be something that I really enjoy comes out.

As for losing faith thats normal has happened to me quite a lot most of last year and some of 2013 I was just thinking why do I bother but then Bayo 2 and Saya no Uta reminded me how awesome and amazing games can be even if one is a VN (which is something I dont really read much at all but the setup for Saya was to good to pass up and they hit the ball out the park in the execution of it).

Well there's like a billion games. Let me see if I can name them all.
Witcher 3, Uncharted 4, Halo 5, Evolve, No Man's Sky, Battleborn, Xenoblade X, Mario Maker, new Zelda, Star Fox, Kirby and Yoshi, Bloodborne, The Order, Batman, and uhhh.. that's all I remember, let me look it up.

There's also that MOBA FPS Gearbox is making, the new Ratchet & Clank, Fortnite, Mighty No. 9, FF Type-0 HD, RE Revelations 2, new King's Quest, Just Cause 3,new SW Battlefront, Grim Fandango remastered, The Witness, Tekken 7 and Rainbow Six Siege.

Also possibly SSFV, MGSV and FFXV, definitely a bunch of indie and handheld games that I don't know about because I don't really keep up with those announcements, and there's sure to be a more 2015 games announced later on in the year.

I get it if you're not particularly excited for any of those, but it's really not some big mystery why the general gaming community is.

Well... we face a big wall here. Do you care about One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 or Dragon Quest Heroes: Yamiryū to Seikaiju no Shiro? I can say those are why I'm excited about 2015. More Pirate Warriors and a new IP in the Warriors series? Oh, hell yeah! If you answered no, then you have your answer. People are gonna care about different games than you.

2014 was in general a pretty awful year for gaming. Most of the game released (particularly for consoles) were HD re-releases and ports of older games, and the bigger high profile releases almost all were either a massive disappointment or horrifically buggy. Steam started to get flooded with Early Access games and general crap thanks to their lack of quality control. I think one of the few big releases I actually really liked was Dark Souls 2, because more Souls is always a good thing. I still have yet to see anything to make me either upgrade from my current laptop or get a... I suppose current gen console.

2015 seems like it won't be much better on the PC front. AAA publishers seem to be ramping up the RRP for new release PC games and Steam is becoming flooded with even more Early Access and Greenlight garbage. There are a few releases I'm looking forward to, but right now I'm happy with the game I do have.

Pillars of Eternity, Torment: Tides of Numenera, Arkham Knight, Witcher 3, and more Dreamfall: Chapters all have me pretty excited for the new year. Seems like 2015 should be a pretty decent year at the very least.

The problem is, your view is narrowed to only AAA titles. Of course you would be pessimistic when AAA titles are mostly remakes and sequels.

I look more forward to Indie titles and games made by small(er) studios. I don't really buy games on day one anymore, because my backlog is more than 300 games (and I take advantage of buying them much cheaper).

I am looking forward to No Man's Sky, but more importantly, I am looking forward to Oculus Rift releasing this year, therefore I am excited for any and every game that gets made for it this year.

I think one of the reason's I am not pessimistic for 2015's games though, is because I am still addicted to Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, and don't really care about new releases as much.

Blood Born. But I bought all the souls games so far(even bought a ps3 just for demon's souls) so what do I know.
PS:
I wouldn't call bloodborne grey or generic.

The new Zelda, Majora's Mask 3D, Witcher 3, Arkham Knight, Metal Gear Solid V, etc. What's not to like? Even if those big titles don't interest you, I'm sure there's also some fantastic indie stuff coming out too. My biggest issue, is deciding what to spend my time and too many choices. Some stuff, I might initially skip like Arkham Knight, and wait for it be on sale, while playing other titles.

Well Mr.Killjoy (typical Escapist user) I'll try and say this as simply as I can. A lot of games we want and have been looking forward too are coming out this year and we want to own them.

God knows I'm not.
Dragon Age Inquisition sucked, Far Cry 4 was pretty mediocre, the latest assassin's creed was buggy as shit, I was let down by Shadow of Mordor, (It wasn't bad, but I had actually hoped for a good LOTR RPG, and got a batman clone.) Destiny was mediocre, and I sink all of my time now on Europa Universalis 4. But hey, Paradox is releasing a much needed sequel to Hearts of Iron early this year, looks like I have that too look forward to.

Witcher 3 out-requires my rig, and I'm not content on sinking 450 USD for a new power supply, processor, and GPU just for one game. Hell, I haven't even played Witcher 2 yet. I thought arkham city was okay, and I haven't heard anything good about the game that came after that, so I'm looking at that new batman game with a lot of trepidation.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is supposed to come out this year, and the story for that will more than likely be a convoluted mess. I had trouble keeping up with the second one.

Maybe I should consider a WiiU. It seems like Nintendo is kind of trying to release games that aren't complete trash on that thing.

I've failed to be blown away by a AAA title in a long time. I really liked bioshock infinite, but I beat it in ten hours, and have yet to have an urge to replay it. I really liked Mass Effect 3 until... well, you know...

Maybe I'm just losing my interest in gaming. Maybe what they said about it being a fad for kids is true. Maybe playing great games has jaded me to the point where I'm unable to be moved by what today has to offer. Or maybe most AAA developers suck. All I know is I'll probably be saving a lot of money on games this year. Hey, maybe that can help me pay for college.

Can't promise these will at all excite or even interest you in the slightest, but here are a few of the games I'm looking forward to this year:

It's being made by an upstart dev team comprised of a whopping three people with the almost literal equivalent of a shoe-string budget. However, this game looks to be doing what most horror games today fail to do: make proper use of natural, logical level designs as well as atmospheric sounds and, more importantly, the LACK of sounds, to build tension.

Honestly, when a team of three can put together something like this with an almost non-existent budget the triple-A industry should be ashamed.

The team behind this game has some quality pedigree, and the concept sounds fresh and interesting. It's been described as a non-combat exploration game that's heavy on narrative and mystery.

May just be me, but it looks and sounds quite promising.

While not the most "original" of gameplay styles, this is one of the first RTS games I've been truly excited for in years. They're trying some pretty interesting ideas for the game mechanics within the game in relation to each faction and the environment over all.

If you like classic RTS games, you should look it up.

Okay, now admittedly one of the only other games I'm eagerly anticipating is a sequel to an established series, but I'm still eager for it, damn it!

How could I not be? I love the series.

I now feel ashamed of myself for not hearing about Routine yet. Sci-fi horror set on an abandoned Moonbase where you are being chased by biological and robotic monsters, sign me up! Reminds me of good old System Shock 2.

OT: Witcher 3, Pillars, and Torment are all on my waiting list. There are probably other games I'm looking forward in the coming year, just can't remember them right now.

This is the year when next-gen hits it's stride. The time for marketing gimmicks and "parity" downgrades, have passed. Now it's just game vs game in a developer fight to the death claim your delicious monies.

This is taken even further by the fact that most people are sick of the bullshit, hype, and shit releases to the point where a game won't sell if it don't fuckin' work. People are finally growing balls and won't stand for bullshit any longer, and it's been a long time comin'

The big things for me are Star Fox, Zelda U and, Codename S.T.E.A.M. I'm cautiously optimistic when it comes to games like Splatoon, Yarn Yoshi, Xenoblade X (didn't really care for the first one but this one looks vastly improved), Final Fantasy XV, and Kingdom Hearts III. I'm pretty excited to see the new game theory once Five Nights at Freddies 3 launches too but I don't see myself playing that myself.
