Why? Bullied just for playing Final Fantasy?

These bullies are not real men! They probably don't have the attention span or intelligence to enjoy a story oriented RPG.

They need a visit from my friend Commander Shepard to show them a real man's video game!

There's no point in someone's life/career when they are supposed to magically stop being bullies. It's advisable, but not mandatory. Hell, look at many of the people running your country, and I don't have to know which country you are in for that to apply.

And that's /thread.

People can be awful at any age, sadly. Just because it is more common amongst those aged 10-20 doesn't mean everyone grows out of it.

Also he went to college in the 90s, when gaming was building but still very new. I was teased for playing Magic and Pokemon at the same time, just in elementary school. Gamers were easy targets because gaming wasn't a massive industry.

It must be really difficult to mix 'n' match between those two decks.

(I tried Magic but had to idea what was going on. I don't Pokemon.)

Side note: I'm not sure how much of this is an American thing (bullying over gaming). I grew up in the 80s and 90s in the UK, and I don't think I ever saw anyone being bullied over being a gamer (I was a gamer). Having a SNES, Megadrive or Amiga (which is what I had) was cool (the latter not as much as the former, but still decent).

Why is a 70+ year old man in the White House a bully?

Bullies are not limited by age.

Bullying is not restricted by age, some people are just assholes with an inflated sense of self worth, so they think they can get away with pushing around anyone they want... until they try to push around the wrong person and get put in their place, or worse.

Fortunately I was big enough at a young age that most people left me alone, or if they saw me get angry they would back off.

Yup, it was all "Oh shit! You got Street Fighter? Can I come over to your house?". I mean, I don't even recall "Gamer" being any sort of identity or identifier. You were a kid, you had a cool toy. Most people had or wanted a console/computer.

OT: Some people are just arseholes, no matter the age, but by University most people have grown out of it.

Yes, but unfortunately they have turned to other forms of bullying like over class, race, intelligence or how many people you have slept with.

That pretty much sums it up right there. There is no magical age when people suddenly stop being bullies. There are some people who where bullies as children/teens that do grow out of it, but sometimes assholes never stop being assholes. You may find that you'll encounter bullies once you're done school and are out in the workforce. They never go away.

POWER.

I mean, it's like asking 'why is AN adult still a bully?'.
Because...POWER.

O, and some people are just assholes.

As others have already pointed out, there's no escaping bullies, which is part of the reason why we have a certain level of tolerance towards children bullying each other, since it builds up resistance to it in adulthood. Hell even this forum doesn't escape it. Sure, it sucks, but the reality of human nature is there's always assholes in life, and sometimes the asshole doesn't even realise it, but that no matter what you need to learn to deal with it one way or another, since it won't magically go away.

I think the south park episode on it put it best.

People of all ages are assholes.
You can hope for better, but just realize that you're bound to be horribly disappointed until you die.

I wasn't discounting any of that as bullying.

You're really stretching to play your usual space/opera/rpg fiddle there Capt.

Its a 30 year old story about how a guy was bullied for being socially inept and struggling with his sexual identity, and how videogames gave him an outlet to invest in while he made the necessary growth to be comfortable with himself.

It is not a story about how a guy gets bullied for playing final fantasy.

Not sure if you did that on purpose or not, but...

Obviously people still have issues from childhood well into adulthood, and sometimes they attack others they feel are inferior to make up for their own issues, or because that is how they are used to acting, or for literally dozens of reasons...

Turnbull strikes me as the person who would pay the school's A-team rugby forwards to beat up the other kids, though.
