People do not like that which doesn't sound good to them. I don't find most kinds of rap easy on the ears so I wont listen to it.

Now, if you are asking why people will bring up stuff like As I Lay Dying and say that it isn't music and anything with screaming in it has no place in the world, that is because they, usually, do not realize the difficulties in making that kind of music. All they hear is noise, which means that they cannot pick the melody or tune out of the whole picture.

Its sad really, that people can't find a way to just accept other types of music as music. I mean, I wouldn't be caught dead listening to Kenny Chesney or Rascal Flatts, but you wont hear me bashing it and saying it isn't music.

Acceptance is key, and also something that the human race cannot figure out for the life of them.

Most people who feel strongly about one type of music that they like, seem to (in my opinion) intentionally or otherwise, have to exhibit something as an opposite to that in some other genre, I myself prefer things like slipknot, Korn, and apocalyptica , but can't stand Lady gaga, The Thing that is Britney, and some other more main stream things. People have varying tastes. Some people enjoy a certain genre while others dont. Its when we begin to listen to what is popular for the sake of being cool that we lose sight of what music is really about.

Because the worst bands of a good genre receive the most publicity. Most people have bad taste in music anyway, so it hardly matters, but:
Screamo already sounds terrible, doesn't it? Most people think it's metal with a screamy vocalist.
Slipknot turns people off metal, I think, because some people with good enough taste to think it sucks don't have exposure to good metal.
I'm not opposed to anything, but some genres are infested with shit and some are just filled with great bands.

I'm stating my preference, I know some people like screaming etc., but imo, that has very little meaning, but that's to me, others find meaning in it. When I say meaning, I mean it talks about stuff going on now like all the problems. I can see how that would sound very ignorant... Maybe if I said I like music with extensive meaning? This quoting is getting long... When I talk about screaming music I mean like the kind of music where they don't even say words, they just scream. I'm okay with yelling (which is pretty much the same but I think of yelling as at least having words :\)
