Why are people so opposed to non human game characters?

I know this is probably going to strike people as a 'strange choice of thread' as to most people the existance of a human protagonist in a game of any genre is about as commonplace as games being made on disks. However I feel I must ask anyway because I'm bored and I want to ask this question so I'm going to.
In every game it's always some cool human guy with either a big gun or a big sword fighting hordes of ugly inhuman monsters. I already made a post about a possible reverse situation but now I'm going to go one step further and just ask why there is a need to make them all human?

Some would say that it's because humans can only relate to other humans and that really a human hero is someone they can support. But for some reason me personally always feel.. suspicious... not supporting whenever I watch these unquestionably good humans fighting and slaughtering various alien men, women and children who were fleeing for their safety while the patriotic music plays. Okay we never actually see this in games... though I'd like to.

My question is not so much why are there no alien heroes who take the main stage (or non human fantasy characters at that) though that is a good question. My question is really, why do you think we can't relate to them?

Honestly I would love to see a fantasy game where it's a lizard guy fighting humans or a sci fi shooter where it's an alien from planet Glarkgenver fighting space marines. Or even just one where there are human allies but one of the mains is a non human.
Well what you think, why so few non human badass action heroes?

(for the record I am NOT talking about 'cartoony characters' like Spiro, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot or any of them fella's. So overlook all the cartoony ones, instead I am talking about games with a 'serious' tone to them. Also certainly not one of those 'fake non humans' who still looks very, very human. That doesn't count either.)

Because we don't like being told we're the assholes. The sorts of games that feature this to a noticeable degree aren't trying to make you think, they're brainless enjoyment games, and in these situations a game that actively trys to point out our faults is not going to be well recieved by players.
Not even just THAT though, a game where the main central hero or at least one of them is a non human character... like FF with a lizardman as a hero. You know? I don't see why we can't just have them there.

Clearly you've never played that many RPGs.
No no I have, like Oblivion and stuff where I play as an Argonian but that's a player made character, not a character of an established franchise.

Isn't Dante (of the Devil May Cry) a half-demon of some kind? So no human.
RPGs, as already mentioned.
Destroy all humans: You are a gray alien.
Sci-fi strategy games have all sorts of races and campaings for them.
Sam and Max: A dog and a homicidal bunny.
Grim Fandago: protagonist is a skeleton.
Jedi Academy: You can be a Twilek if you want to.

shall we go on...?

Sure, plenty of humans as protagonists, but surprisingly often it's something else...

In that case, I don't know.
Nor care, honestly. I find that most of the time, if the main character has a pre-set personality, he or she pisses me off all over the place.

Still, oliveira has a good example.

And the reason is, I assume, because you're supposed to empathize with the main character.
Being human makes that easier, I guess?
Just like you said.
I guess, but then again according to my therapist I'm not classified as human....

That Warhammer game for the Xbox(I think) a while back had you playing as a Tou named Kais.
Also, second player plays as The Arbiter in Halo.

The reason why it's so underdone is because it's a lot easer to relate to someone(or something) that looks like you.
How do you think Eminem got so popular so fast?

Fire Warrior the player controlled a Tau warrior and your enemies in the game were Imperial Guard, Space Marines, and later Chaos forces. Principally humans though were your targets, and you played the alien.

The game would be Dawn of War, of the Warhammer 40 000 universe. And the name was Shas'o Kais is Dark Crusade and Shas'o Or'es'Ka is the Soulstorm. In addition to them, there were the eldar, dark eldar, orcs, chaos, necron...
