Why are people such dicks about repeat threads?

Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Maybe they didn't see the thread or their search phrase was something different, but covering the same topic. Just seems people are quite arrogant and degrading when they point out a recent repeated thread.

I only get mad when its a repeat thread of a repeat thread of a repeat thread, etc, etc.

It depends on the occurrence.

If you're posting something that's been discussed a few times before but those are fairly old, you shouldn't receive too much hate.

If you're posting another Mass Effect 3 or Skyrim thread then Gods help you cause you are fucked my friend.

If its a repeat of an old thread no-one cares. If its a repeat of a thread that's still on the first page, that's when people get annoyed.

Oh and when it's something that's repeated over and over and over, like the ME3 ending or 'games as art' threads.

To be fair, some of those things get revived. I was over the whole "games as art" argument for months, then suddenly Johnathan Blow decided to publicly be a douche again and now it's all I want to talk about.

Yeah but there's no need to make shit loads of threads about it. I don't know why people can't just say what they've got to say on one of the threads on the same topic.

People generally are not "dicks" about just any old repeat thread.

But when a topic has been discussed ad nauseum, and there are 8 different threads on the topic on the first page, and you choose to start your own thread because "you didn't think anyone would listen/respond if you posted in one of the existing threads", then you deserve every ounce of abuse you get.

Because this is the internet, and a lot of people are dicks. Most repeated threads that happen regularly will disappear before long anyway, with only the odd one or two comments to point out the creator's error, but some people like to comment with abuse just for the sake of it, to get their post count up or to inflate their egos. Just don't pay it any heed, and just check next time, and if you find something that is relevant, you could resurrect it, but people will be dicks about that too.
So you can't win.

I don't mind. These days I ignore most MLP threads.

What I find more annoying is when there is several threads on the front page that are more or less about the same topic.

Francly a repeat thread can be nice, I hate trying to get into a 10+ page long thread, would be nicer with a fresh start on the same topic imo

It's the subject and the rate of occurrence.

If it's the fifty-second Mass Effect 3 thread, that's an occurrence peeve. You see that thread A LOT, and it isn't solving popshit.

If it's the fifty-second 'what's your favorite gun from a game thread', that's a subject peeve. You see the thread all the time, everyone just walks in and drops off their answer without adding to the discussion much, and you generally just get sick of having the same answer for a thread that no one is going to read about.

If it's the fifty-second Mass Effect 3 thread about what your favorite weapon is then

Because they don't like the possibility of the post receiving a lot of attention and replies for what they see as plagiarism.
Jealousy, really.

I don't get the responses here. You probably know a person who tells the same stories repeatedly. That person is rubbish.

If that person is you then what you're made of is not win.

Because it's better to have one 20 page ME3 thread than 20 ME3 threads. I know ME3 is popular but this isn't a "Game of the Now" board.

Each game should have precisely one thread. Possibly two if it's so popular. That way trying to talk about anything else doesn't just get overshadowed immediately with only two replies.

Some are fine.

ME3 threads are one example of how a topic can be done far too much.

Each thread covers the same ground and nothing new is ever discussed.

Once a dead horse is beaten, it should be left to rot in peace.

I'm pretty sure i've seen this thread before, reported. (just joshing ;))

I think its just annoying when there's already a big thread and somebody makes a thread about the same thing when they could have just replied to said big thread.

Some are fine if it's been a while and there's more people here to give different opinion etc.

But if it's the same shit with a slightly different title daily or weekly it can and does get tedious.
