why are spiders scary

Because some are extremely dangerous to humans and a select few will CHASE after humans (at least I think) if felt threatened like the brazilian wandering spider (aka banana spider). Plus you never know where they can turn up, again like the banana spider found in bananas that got shipped to England and made a man stay in the hospital for a week.
I am an arachnophobic, I think spiders are scary to other people because they're small enogh to be hard to detect, but deadly enogh to kill in a short period. Being stuck under a house surrounded by cobwebs with a redback on your nose helps make them all the more scary, excuse me while I hyperventilate
I have this strange "spider sense" where I can detect where a spider is in a room before I actually see it. I get an uneasy feeling which intensifies when I get closer to where a spider may be and sure enough one is hiding in that location. It may be because I'm arachnophobic and if one actually got onto me I'd blow a heart valve.

Incidentally, Did you know if the huntsman spider was Human sized it can run the 100m in 3.4 seconds? (i think, Going off memory here >.<)
Because they're hairy, they bite, they leave webs everywhere, and they're really ugly. I swear there probably isn't a bug in this world that I like. Almost all of them are ugly, kill you, or both.
Look up Brown Recluse or Hobo Spider bites in google images and I swear you'll never barefoot in the basement again. Hell I was just trying to look up Hobo spiders and the damn thing added "bites". Go on look it up you know you want to and I know you'll most likely regret it.
I don't really fear them. It's more of a "well, that's strange. Let's stay away from that thing," response.
Lots of legs, many kinds bite, and way too many put their damned webs up right in my face that is always just high enough to walk right through the invisible clingy strands of gyeeesh.
Although I will admit that finding a spider in my room as I'm about to go to sleep is always unsettling.

Because humans have surpringly strong instincts and some of our ancestors remember these fucking scary eight legged things which almost killed them or that killed their friends and mates.

Spiders are completely different to us. There's no connection we can make with them. You can't personify a spider the same way you can a lion or a bear. Spiders are just alien and that's terrifying.
We get on best with things that have a recognisable face, even if they're savage predators that will kill and eat you in a heartbeat. Two eyes, a nose and a mouth below that, two ears to the side of the head. The vast majority of animals most people can think of have that face. Mammals, fish, reptiles, birds, amphibians - even a lot of insects. We can imagine expressions on them, project our own feelings on them, it makes it easier to like them.
Spiders? Nothing like that. Too many eyes. Mandibles instead of a mouth. They don't even have the right number of limbs. Spiders are just so completely alien to us and that is what makes them so terrifying.

so technically i wasn't afraid of the spider i was afraid of what happens after......
