i dont know why they are depicted as stupid, but all the stoners i have met dont act very bright, then are not as bad as they are depicted, but i wouldnt cheat off them on a test (wouldnt cheat anyways, but thats besides the point).

I don't think stoners are stupid. I know some very intelligent stoners, some with Masters Degrees.

I know people that begun their school carreers as bright minded individuals, got on pot, and lost half thei brain functions to it. That's why I say: 'STOP USING IT DURING LUNCH BREAK, YOU SORRY BASTARD!'

you have to regulate your use, as with everything.

Because a stoner is someone that is constantly high and under pot..you are stupid it is a simple fact that it slows your wits, and reaction times. and I dislike when people post hey this person got A's and B's and stuff...were they constantly stoned? even at school? I doubt it.

Whether or not a pothead is, in fact, dumb, you look/act like a complete idiot when you're high.
Which is the main reason as to why they're assumed stupid, but each to his/her own I guess. Some are highly effected by it, others not so much.

Just say no to drugs. That stuff builds up in your system (6 months to flush weed out of a cronic smoker) and suddenly you start acting like you are high all the time, regardless of if you are smoking or not.

Because anyone who calls themself a stoner is a stupid immature twat with no job and is 12-30 living in his mums house. Anybody who says "Yeah sometimes I use pot for recreation use" is someone completly different.

yeah, geniuses, i remember a roomates friend introducing us to the idea of varnishing trees fireproof so there would never be a forest fire again.
Damn why isnt he Emperor of the Country yet :p
But what is true is that there are a lot of intelligent people smoking marijuana, so not every stoner is only jibbering nonsensical idiotic stuff.
But the long term effects are nearly not denieable. If you smoke to much, your brain transforms into a, nevertheless funny and nice, spongelike pile of crap.
So children 3 times a year its good clean fun (here a "time" can mean a 5 day festival ;))

My friend always told me they have these amazing conversations when they are high. I thought it was possible since Carl Sagen smoked weed and got most of his ideas while under the influence from what I read. So I happened to be their their place while they were smoking (got no problem with it, just dont smoke the stuff) and they were talking and having this great debate type thingy going on. Only problem was that they were making no damn sense at all. You could tell they werent thinking straight.

But outside of it, they are brighter than the average joe.

Actually, I know a rocket scientist, yes he actually works for NASA on the rockets and he smokes regularly. He gets the best stuff too. Him and his NASA buddies often get together for this.

Doesn't that make you feel safe.

Why are Asians depicted as intelligent, and homosexual males as being 'fabulous?'

Humans prefer simple and consistent imagery, I think. The world is easier to handle when you do not have to recognize that individual differences result in vast variability. Categorization and heuristics leaves muddy images that we accept for convenience's sake.

The only drug I have used is alcohol, if I have the extra money I sometimes get a beer sampler pack of different kinds that I pick out from the random bottle shelf at the grocery store. I haven't had the same beer twice. But I can't say that I have actually been drunk drunk, just warm.

I'm a conservative. If you want to do drugs that will kill you, go right ahead(I'm speaking of other drugs, not pot). I want it to be a free country. I haven't seen one credible statistic that has proven that pot is anymore dangerous than smoking tobacco. I am more incline to say that pot is a hell of a lot less bad for you than tobacco.

I also think that there are a lot of people out there that do it not just for the high, but because it is illegal and they feel like they are giving the middle finger to the government. I'm giving the middle finger to the government, by protesting its sinister controlling progressive ways.

I actually support the legalization of marijuana. It would go a long way to slowing the ever raising national debt, if we legalize marijuana and then tax the hell out of it like we do with tobacco. If we tax the hell out of it, it would still probably be cheaper than buying it from a dealer.

Well, from experience all the stoners I know are fairly intelligent until they smoke weed, including myself. Once you're high you can become really stupid, really fast. But this is true for any kind of drug; too much sauce, pain medication, my friend who took the equivalent of 20 espresso shots everyday before work, once your state of mind is altered you can become really stupid, or boring (a lot of stoners just laze around)

But not as bad as depicted in the media, that's just over the top. It's funny in things like Harold and Kumar, but sad and pathetic in anti-drug ads.

Well said. I know full well how infuriating it is to have people look down their noses at you.

I haven't been aware of any such recent campaigns, probably because I'm not American. I don't remember really hearing anything more than "whatever you're doing, be careful", even when I was at school.

I made a fairly innocuous and self contained statement, and was subsoquently told what my values are...and then had them attacked(strawman much?). It's a testament to how laughably polarized this debate has become.
We can definitely agree on that. The fact that it's turned from an issue of carefully weighing the pros and cons and considering both sides of the argument, into a "pick your side, there is no middleground" issue is severely impeding the progress of actual understanding of the subject by society as a whole. Stateside, the issue has become deliberately polarized, just like all other political issues, because there's money to be made in distracting people from the real issues by keeping them at each others' throats. Disinformation is spread by both sides, people become rabid proponents of their beliefs, and any hope of a concise and reasonable solution to the problem goes right out the window so our government can keep screwing us without our notice.

Both sides have a hard time being forthcoming with their stances, usually chocking it up to "why explain what you wouldn't understand, deadbeat/conformist". Pro-legalization activists tend to gloss over the fact that people can misuse cannabis like any other substance by pointing out that it hasn't been proven to kill anyone, while prohibitionists point out the exact opposite by refusing to admit that there really aren't any logical reasons to withhold it when other, more harmful practices are sanctioned and endorsed by the government for their own profit.

I really only tend to side with the pro-legalization people, as I see the government as being in the wrong. However, they can be as big of jackasses as everyone else (although, admittedly, much more sympathetic jackasses). While I'm usually trigger-happy about jumping down peoples' throats when it comes to issues like this, it's because I want to see all disinformation dispelled so that this debate can be viewed from an entirely rational standpoint without people muddying the waters and keeping us from getting anywhere.
Completely agree.

Having spent 3 years working as a bartender, I'm fully aware of what a shitty effect alcohol can have on people(I've had pint glasses flung at my head), yet it's legal, and yet I grew up with Budweiser and Bacardi adverts in the middle of episodes of the simpsons, and cigarette adverts on bus stops and on the sides of buildings for me to witness on my way to school. I'm not saying any of it should be illegal(I find the moral indignation over such things distasteful), but the hypocrisy is evident.

Having said that, I get pissed off when anyone tells me how to feel...and that's really the problem, as you said. We're obsessed with winning hearts and minds, when we should just be looking at the implications of the drug and its legalization.

Because weed kills your brain cells, which makes you stupid.
Don't even try tell me that's not true, because I know a lot of stoners, and it's very true.
You know a lot of stoners? A lot, being the key word. You don't know EVERY stoner. Stop stereotyping. Some of us are actually intelligent, well meaning members of society.
Ok, I didn't say stoners where stupid. I said weed kills your brain cells, which it does; that is a fact, it's proven. When your brain cells die it can leave you slow; that is not stereotyping.
