Have you played the Thief games? Emphasis is entirely around stealth, evasion and misdirection. You can kill people, but on the highest difficulty that counts as a failure. You have a BlackJack you can use to knock people out, along with a host of arrows that can be used to aid your sneaky adventures. The oldest in the series are pretty dated (1 and 2) and 3 is considered the weakest in the series. But all of them are good if you can look past the dust and rust. Though I warn you, they are all ass ugly at this point.Leoofmoon said:I don't mean like a huge cinematic movies the games are (I do enjoy them at times MGSPW and MGS4 are the best), But I mean game that allow me to chose to ether kill a guy or just K.O. a guard with my fist or a tranquilizer. I see most modern FPS games were you kill hundreds of army troops and blow up tank and such but I haven't seen many games take the MGS form of ,"Yes will give you a tone of killing weapons but to be a real man we dare you to take this, A tranquilizer pistol and rifle, and a few unique grenades."
I really do enjoy the Metal gear sires to this degree because they do know some players will want to take the easy way and just blast everyone's brains out with high powered pistols, but it dos enjoy it's players who take the moral high ground of proceeding though the game without a single kill on there record.
No, only the one that was usually only given on Easy/Very Easy mode and had a laser sight, built-in suppressor that lasts forever, and infinite ammo was the EZ Gun. The standard tranquilizer is the Mk-22 "Hush Puppy" handgun with single fire, a manual catch that served to reduce rate of fire further (although they say in-game it reduces the noise produced because the top doesn't violently side back and make a loud clang or something), ammo you have to collect yourself, and (if you're playing Snake Eater/Subsistence) suppressors that wear out and must be replaced, usually by getting them from soldiers you hold up. (You need to be really lucky to get them from a simple knockout, and god help you if you killed the guy. Then again, if you're killing soldiers, I think suppressors for the tranquilizer gun aren't high on your shopping list.The_Blue_Rider said:Also the tranquilizer was called the EZ gun for a reason you know.
That was more then they made the shooting much easier and added a FPS camera mode for quick shooting and percison. At its core it was still a stealth game i mean heal there's a award i the game for going though the entire game with no kill's no alerts, no spots, and having not killed a single boss on the hardiest difficulty. The reason MGS4 played more like a shooter was because of the added MP element witch to me was fairly good and took come practice to become vary good at.baddude1337 said:Stealth genre seems to of died, and I don't get why. It's not like theirs not a demand for them, given that every game seems to want to have more explosions. (Just look at the new Splinter Cell: Blacklist, it look's fucking awful and even more of a disgrace than Conviction was to the Splinter Cell name. Even MGS4 could be played like a straight up shooter with ease.)
"MP?" Did you actually mean Drebin Points? It was a nice addition, and you could even take advantage of it with non-lethal means. Knocked out or held up enemies drop their main weapon, and destroying an AI-machine gives DP without counting as a kill.Leoofmoon said:That was more then they made the shooting much easier and added a FPS camera mode for quick shooting and percison. I think Ubisoft is very very confused at the moment. I mean, look at AC3: On the one hand, he's sprinting into armies without a care in the world, but on the other hand, he can now sneak and there are more stealth take downs, in addition to blending (though they didn't really show that).baddude1337 said:Stealth genre seems to of died, and I don't get why. I'm pretty sure he was talking about the online game, Metal Gear Online whose servers just closed this Tuesday. MGO was the best online shooter this gen by far (I played it weekly for all 4 years until the very last day), it emphasized skill more than any other online shooter. If you want to knife someone, you have to slam them down, switch to 1st-person view, and then knife (compared to COD and pretty much every other shooter where you press the melee button). MGS4 and MGO have the smoothest 3rd-person aiming I've ever experience in a 3rd-person shooter, and there was none of that aim-assist crap going on either.Moontouched-Moogle said:"MP?" You only get to mention that when we're talking about story malleability. Otherwise, it's shite.Grygor said:What, no mention of Alpha Protocol yet?
Why the hell someone didn't just sit Harvey Smith down with a team and a bank full of money and tell him to out-Deus Ex Deus Ex sooner then now is beyond me.shrekfan246 said:Dishonored is looking like it'll shape up to try and out-Deus Ex, well, Deus Ex.
It's excruciatingly obvious that the AC series has already gone through 2 creative directors. The series doesn't know what it wants to be. I really wish the Assassin's Creed series went more of the Hitman route, Assassin's Creed 1 was actually pretty similar to Hitman in structure (collect intel, do assassination; Hitman you already have the intel) and the story assassinations were kind of like Hitman-lite missions. There was so much potential in the AC series and it has basically become an action series.Richardplex said:I think Ubisoft is very very confused at the moment. Sorry if this comment brings that psychotic Ubisoft hater here by the way.
Let us jump for joy.Hawk of Battle said:Yeah, I was going to mention Dishonored. The main reason I'm interested in it is because you can play through the entire thing without killing anyone.odBilal said:No one mentioned Dishonored by now? You can choose if you want to kill your Target or go the more complicated route and figure out how to get rid of them without shooting/stabbing them.
I'm going to take it a stage further though, and see if I can Ghost the whole game, Thief style.
Ima try that aswell, though I may kill someone as a fish for shits and giggles.Hawk of Battle said:Yeah, I was going to mention Dishonored. The MGS4 controls aren't awkward once you learn them and get used to them, I realize that only makes the controls seem like they are indeed awkward and unintuitive. However, you can do so many more things in MGS4 and MGO that you need to take time to learn and get used to the controls. What other online shooter allows you to grab an enemy, put C4 (or a sleeping gas mine) on him, and let him go to detonate the C4 later? MGS4 even has 1st-person leaning, something console FPSs don't even have (there's no reason why console FPSs don't have leaning, the controller has more than enough buttons for the FPS control scheme). The reason you can't just run up to an enemy and knife them in MGO is so you can't bring a knife to a gunfight and win with a knife. I hate online shooters with a melee button because of that. Just the character movement and aiming is the best of any 3rd-person shooter ever (I've pretty much played them all as I don't like the 1st-person perspective); MGO was all about getting headshots and the aiming was so smooth with no aim-assist in an online environment, that's saying something. I literally could turn around 180 degrees and headshot an enemy shooting at me from behind in less than a second. You can't do that in Uncharted because the camera is so sluggish.Matthew94 said:I dislike this notion. Awkward controls does not mean skill. That's the excuse I hear from console players I know in real life who say xbox shooters are more skillful because the controller is harder to use.
It's a bad excuse and does not fly.
