There's actually a few good ones out there but I feel like the focus has shifted towards more comedic cartoons, shows like Adventure Time, and Regular Show (both of which have me crying for my good ol' days of toonami and the Acme Hour)

TransFormers: Prime has been pretty good.
This, especially since it is doing things a little bit differantly from other incarnations of Transformers.

GI Joe: Renegades is also fairly decent, as is Young Justice (when they can be bothered to release a new episode).

ive never heard of this Transformers:prime...but anyway the only action cartoons on air right now that would be decent are Ben 10:Ultimate Alien (kinda anyway...the series seemed one sided) Generator Rex (ben 10 like, but it's its own thing) Thundercats (already discussed previously) and the Star Wars Clone Wars (its star wars...nuff said...) it works for now but there can be better things...hopefully

Eh, Thundercats is alright, but it has what I can only describe as horrific pacing. Character has become obsessed with revenge? Resolved at the end of the episode. Grief over losing EVERYTHING they ever knew? Resolved at the end of the episode. Panthro doesn't respect Liono because the latter hasn't proven himself? Resolved at the end of the episode. Liono doesn't understand the finer points of swordsmanship...well, I think you know the next part. Suffice to say, what should be character arcs have been ending up as character segments. Seriously, is it too much to ask that they actually let things develop at a natural pace rather than rushing them to their inevitable conclusion? That said, I'm actually rather fond of how they've actually been treating the villains, they just seem far more threatening this time around.

It is amusing how the shows that DO become extremely popular tend to be the ones the creators do give a shit about, like The Last Airbender and Adventure Time, the latter being the most recent. Ben 10 grew a beard after the first series, though with the creator's death the recent episodes seem to have lost their luster. From the same group you also have Generator Rex which is pretty grim when you look at the big picture.

An important keynote here is that these shows are ALL new intellectual properties, not remakes of some old franchise or a total reboot.
*headscratch* You forgot FiM, which is extremely popular and kinda contradicts your last point.

From the good old 80s, mind. Go back to your girly show brony.
...Are you trying to turn this thread into yet another "What Friendship is Magic is and isn't" thread? I swear, more threads about it are made like that than are created by the fanbase itself. Don't like the show? Fine, but don't bait the fanbase into yet another argument by trolling it like that.
Re-read the whole conversation, please. Then try to comment when you understand what they just said.

Meh, The Avengers: earth's mightiest heroes, or what there the subtitle is, is pretty good.

Also as others have said, I think time and nostalgia has skewed your perception. I loved the X-men cartoon that played Saturday mornings on FOX (I believe), so when it popped up on Netflix I was like yes this Cartoon was the shit! I am going sit down and watch. Man I couldn't get through one episode. The animation is horrible the voice acting was painful, nothing about that shitty cartoon was actually how I remembered it. :( I honestly can't believe I woke up earlier every Saturday for a number of years to watch that crap.

Probably because we're all older than we were back when the "good" cartoons happened, and we want them back, and we won't take anything but the nostalgia fodder for an answer. :p

Because you're growing up and you only remember "the good stuff" and you've forgotten the shit. It's generally called "nostalgia", and it severely blinds opinions everywhere.

When today's kids have reached the ripe old ages that we have, they'll be looking at modern cartoons and asking the same questions. "What the hell is wrong with these whippersnappers? Hell, in my day, we watched good cartoons like (insert name of modern kids' cartoon here, I don't know any).
good point, I guess what I SHOULD be asking is, why are there no good action cartoons aimed at adults? There was the amazing screw on head but that wasn't picked up for a series :(

If you're looking for western action cartoons aimed at adults, then you're out of luck for the most part. There are some, particularly with movies.

However, why don't you take a peek into some anime? Baccano? Full Metal Alchemist? Hellsing Ultimate (I think, never seen it)? Cowboy Motherfucking Bebop?
I DO watch anime, I'm almost done with soul eater and pumpkin scissors. Those are really good ones :)

You just got older mate, most of those cartoons were always aimed at kids and you aren't one of them anymore.
I used to love Dragon Ball and Pokeamom, but I recently went back to watch them and those things are fucking horrid to me now.

Back in my day we had Popeye, and it had a good message too: Eat spinach and you can kick the ass of your enemies.

I was gonna go and list a bunch of shit to counteract your point, but everyone else already did that.

It's almost like OP doesn't watch children's television at all or something.

I dunno, there are some good action-based western cartoons like Young Justice, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Transformers Prime, Batman: the Brave and the Bold, Generator Rex, GI Joe: Renegade (why did they have to cancel it? WHY?!), Thundercats, Avatar: The Last Airbender... Which is good, because there's some real crap on kid's cartoon channels lately...

(Also, would My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic count? ...Just asking.)
