i agree with that we should do it from Canadian soldiers points of view because this was there war where they did a bunch of amazing things that made them recognized and respected/ feared by the enemies.....they were not called storm troopers for nothing.

There was this 1 rts (can`t remember the name sorry) that was set in world war 1 but it was fairly poor , it did do a good job of emphasising how vunerable infantry are , as for why there aren`t that many , well the people above have explained that more than enough i suspect

WWII was so big because so many countries teamed up against an evil, all-powerful nation ruled by a madman. It's easy to mold a story out of a hero fighting against the cruel SS soldiers. Personally I can't even say I know many of the details on WWI, but EVERYONE knows about Nazis.

Because it was the most depressing war ever to be fought in the history of the world. Although a game set in the American Revolution/Civil War might be cool.
The game exists. Civil war to be exact. And it sucked.

the concept of standing 100 feet away from an enemy and shooting at each other until one person gets hit wouldn't attract to many people but if it was a game based around dog fights, stealth missions or tank battles it would be highly enjoyable that mixed with some of the weapons and modifications made to them would make for interesting combat, maybe a zombie game based in world war one would work well

What would make an awesome WWI game would be a giant online multiplayer game. I know this impossible at this time, but I'm seeing the entire front being represented and two armies trying and move into the opposing territory. If done correctly, though, it would remain locked in stalemate forever (the U.S could never enter because it would unfairly give one army the advantage needed to win).
Not really, everyone would play the US because too many people are still butthurt about Germany.

And again, I can't imagine it fun. Though, unleashing the poison gas to instantly severely harm or kill most of opposition does sound like a good idea.
You're right, I guess you would have to force people onto teams or no one would play as Germany. And it would have to be pre-U.S. entering so that the sides are equal because the U.S. is one of the major factors that got the war moving again.

Unless they turned into a survival-horror game. Think about it, men around you dying slowly of disease, artillery and machine gun fire shredding everything ABOVE the trench. And in the case of a german advance it could be impossible to predict what is around the next corner in your trench. The screaming and explosions makes your voice fall on deaf ears as your teammates are too preoccupied to see the German holding a knife to your throat. Hell, I'd play a game like that.

Because most everyone, especially Americans, udnerstand the war so poorly they think it would be trench warfare, quickly forgetting about the things like the Strumstruppen, the U-boats, etc. A good WWI game in my opinion would be told from a German stormtrooper and their raids and infiltrations.

Because no developers these days know what happened in WWI or care to find out.

This may come off as racist or offensive to some of you but if you attempt to ignore it then you are the reason. AMERICA WAS NOT IN WWI!
I am canadian, and every remembrance day we remember the one who died in world war 1 and world war 2, meanwhile american will only remember the ones in world war 2. WW2 from the american stand point was scene as a heroic battle, thats why there are a lot of WW2 games and not world war 1. Eternal darkness had a world war 1 chapter in it but Eternal darkness was canadian developed. to those who said trench warfare wouldn't be interesting it is compete bull shit. Imagine fighting the from your trench and the our NPC sergeant gives a whistle and you must run over the top to the other side, hiding in craters and behind rubble from your enemies gun fire and every chance you get you attempt to take out the enemy gunners, I would say it would be as good if not the better then a D-Day scenario. Also there was not just trench warfare. There was the russian campaigns. Let us face it the american are the mainstream of the entertainment industry and what they want is what they get. This is why there will not be a world war 1 game or a vietnam game because those are scene by americans as "bad wars" but the truth is no war is a good war. ( also I think the online for this would be amazing)

My question is, why do people keep on making World War games? Is it because it has the words "World War" in it? Really people..
I think we should stop crapping those games out, because it's the same thing. Personally, I think a Colonial Era war game would be awesome, or maybe even a Civil War game.
there is a civil war game, called Civil War, and it wasnt very good.

for colonial, try Empire: Total War
Empire: Total War is good, but it's a Real-Time-Strategy game. I was talking about first person shooters.
oh, well it would be very hard to translate WWI, Colonial, and Civil War combat into a fps
