Perhaps the greatest question mankind has yet to answer, but is there an answer?
(i don't care if this has been done before so don't bother saying it)

Many ask the question "why?", i say does there have to be a "why?", do we need to search for a purpose or choose our own?.
I believe we are the result of a great cosmic coincidence, and i believe that being the result of a great coincidence would be a great thing, because i believe in choosing my own purpose rather than searching the heavens for one.

If you have chosen a purpose, what is it?

I chose mine to be to mastering the art of physical movement and understanding the mental and physical processes that take place, to study human speed and agility, and use it in my every day life to overcome any obstacle

What do you think?

Actually, the greatest question is, where will Assassins Creed 2 take place?

On topic, its not why that I think about, its how... seeing as I don't believe in, I'm curious as to how the "Big Bang" actually happened, and how life on Earth started.

To reproduce and to constantly reteach what has been taught thousands of times over. Just shed a little light on the darkness.

There is no 'why' there is only 'how'.

Asking 'why are we here' is liking asking a chemical reaction if it thinks it has a moral purpose in life.

I don't know. I think there is probably some reason for it, and that reason will never be known to most of the living. Maybe Buddha or Jesus or Myrddin Wyllt or someone worked it out, but they were far wiser than most people are today.

We're here because... that's just the way it happened.

Somehow, random pieces of RNA managed by chance to assemble themselves in the primordial soup, and by chance managed to fold in a conformation which allowed self-catalysis and self-replication... which eventually lead to proteins being used to do it for them... which lead to DNA being used as storage data because it was more stable etc etc

We were lucky, by chance life happened and now we're here. Enjoy the ride.

We're here because an uncaring, unthinking, unfeeling universe needed to know itself and for compassion to have a chance to exist. Or at least that's what I got when watching Carl Sagan while reading the Tao Te Jhing.

I have a religious answer, and a fun answer. This site being the Escapist and all, I'm going to post the fun one.

"To eat pie."

That's all, the culmination of mankind. If, indeed, evolution happened, it was only because we wanted to evolve mouths that could eat pie and hands to hold the tin with.

Why, why, why. What's with people and those wiggling little details. Chaos doesn't need a reason.

It just is.

And that's good enough.

You seriously need to read 'A Brief History of Time'. Admitidly it was a little over my head, so I read 'A Briefer History of Time' instead. It outlines what happend in the big-bang start to finish in enough detail to make you feel like you've just read the meaning of life.
