There have been quite a few threads recently asking for your favourite or threads trying to spread hate for <insert console/game/company/political institution here>.

But as I read the thoughts of my fellow enlightened masses, or the rank drivel of the morons, depending on your point of view, I realise that we're all on these forums for one reason...

We enjoy our games.

I'm curious to know, what started you down this path. What piece of interactive media grabbed a hold of you and kept you.

For me, it was Pitfall on the Atari 2600.

Crash Bandicoot and Naughty Dog in general. They made the games that turned me into the gamer I am today.

Once I watched a home video with my family, and in the video I was about three or four, and I noticed myself (in the video) playing the gameboy color. I'm not sure what I was playing, but I'm pretty sure it was Poke'mon.

Colecovision. Although I can't remember what games I played on it, all I remember is that my friend got it for his birthday and we'd play it every so often.

I've been a gamer since the early 1980s, but I crossed over from "someone with other interests who happens to play games" to "hardcore gamer who does it with all of his spare time" when I got my first gaming PC in 2000. Once it wasn't just consoles anymore, I was hooked for good.

Why am I here? Because there's a wide variety of topics being discussed and most of the users here seem a good deal more intelligent then most message board inhabitants.

What really got me into games was the Game Boy and a ridiculously old Apple Computer. For the longest time, they were the only games I could get my hands on so I played a lot of Super Mario Land 2: Six Gold Coins, Pokemon, Word Rescue, the original Duke Nukem, and so on. I don't think I truly became a gamer until Donkey Kong 64. That was the game that convinced me to take my first step into the console world, and the gaming community since it led to my subscribing to Nintendo Power...

Some console with SEGA games got me interested. I can't say more about it because the console was owned by family and the games were on some "x-hundred games in one" cartridge.

But the SNES and more specifically Lost Vikings, is what turned me in a gamer.

I feel very old revealing this but my first ever computer game was on my dad's green screen Amstrad word processor.

It was an incredibly bad port of Donkey Kong, it was literally a block of about 7 pixels jumping in three frames over rolling 'barrels'.

I absolutely loved it and finished every last level.

Then one Christmas came Mario Bros and the NEs, and there was no going back.

Pokemon yellow generally got me into video games (and anime, for that matter), but Sonic 3 is what really got me interested in them.

It has been years, and I have played hundreds of games.

I even stripped out a toaster once, and turned it into a Playtoaster after a certain video
