To be honest I joined because I heard the place was full of dicks who parrot Yahtzee's opinions blindly and thought I could get a cheap laugh from them. That was a while ago and I'm still here so I guess I lucked into a forum that's alright.

Currently the Escapist is the only online community I am part of at the moment, forums are nice and the videos are creative and funny. Although recently I am craving a new gaming community to join but the good ones are few and far between, if you have any suggestions pm me. :p
Why not stay here? The site is moving in a really good direction. You guys can't see all of it yet, but we have big plans for the future and some more really meaty gaming shows should be coming out soon.

Despite the myriad of threads complaining about one thing or another, the escapist is a great place to hang out and there are a lot of cool people with interesting opinions.

Just remember to leave your palms at the door, lest they cause you severe facial injuries after repeated use, or better yet, just ignore those threads.

I'm a bit of a masochist, apparently, I can't stay away from the trainwrecks that are Bioware threads.

I wanted to join a gaming a site, my brother was watching ZP one day and I joined from that.

A lot of people saying how nice and friendly the community here is, am I reading a different forum from these people? I have seen a number of threads turn into "rip the guy a new arsehole", I have been on the receiving end a few times.

This forum can be brutal, especially when people start tacking on insults to the end of arguments or throwing the go to insult (troll) around ... or the other classic, "your grammar sucks" "you used the wrong were/there".

This site also have a few geniuses but you can usually guess what most posts are going to be in favor of, like if I made a "MLP is for little girls only!" you can bet 90% of the posts would be in favor of MLP being for everybody and what I was just saying about being brutal.

I also noticed a tendency to react with short sighted emotion, I made a thread about rape that was locked after 15 or so posts. About 5 of them were about how I must support rape (which I said in the OP was totally untrue), rape is nothing like sex and all had stories about a person they knew who had been raped ... the other posts were mine and one other persons, who could see what I was saying.

On the whole though I like it here, every place has it's flaws but I am ok with this ones. On this one you can swear, which is never a bad thing.

Came for Yahtzee, after reading a few threads decided to make an account to comment on things myself. I didn't post a great deal for the first half a year or so, I only really took off in late October 2010 when I started RPing here. I still come here as there's discussion about lots of topics my friends aren't so interested in and this site keeps me up-to-speed with the latest gaming news :)

I don't know really. I used to lurk around here, and made an account in 2010. Never really did did anything with it except for maybe a post her and der. Zero Punctuation was what drew me here, and eventually Extra Credits too.

I'm here a lot more frequently nowadays... And I wouldn't have it any other way :D

When first i came here i didn't even care about the site. I was just typing in ZP into google and going to his video archive. I then watched an episode of TWBB, then Got into watching unforgotten realms, then was curious to see what unskippable was, then found out Moviebob had the same format as ZP. After that I actually started to read things on the site and blam.

I created an account because I wanted to try out faction wars and there was a game voting thing and you needed one. I don't read as much as I used to sadly.

I'm primarily here for Zero Punctuation, Escape to the Movies, and The Big Picture. Don't watch much TV so that and reading some of the articles here wraps up my entertainment. I haven't had video games close at hand for about 2 years now because of college and video games just aren't as fun for me anymore so it feels weird browsing the forums reading about people discussing video games. But the community is great and many of the posts are about fun and great stuff on the internet.

Most importantly, I got to have a great experience enjoying my first visual novel (Katawa Shoujo) thanks to the escapist and on a thread about bass in music I LISTENED TO RUSH FOR THE FIRST TIME AND LIFE HASN'T BEEN THE SAME!!!

seriously since that day I have been listening to sooo much Rush. So I'm here seeing what other cool stuff I can pick up on and have a few laughs reading the articles and comments.

Sometimes, I need more than what 4chan offers.

However, with the addition of "Video Games General", there is now some actual video game discussion happening, instead of the bullshit going on in /v/.

Well I never said I would leave the Escapist, when I say I'm looking for a gaming community I mean a group of people that play the same mp games with me on a regular basis. Used to be into TF2, CS:S, DOD:S and Garry's Mod clans but I got bored with those games. L4D2 and Skyrim all day and all night now.

Lately I don't know. Most of Off-Topic has just been full of absolute trash lately, with people on these forums holding some very worrying and disappointing opinions, and Gaming Discussion is literally only about how EA and Bioware are the combination of hitler, stalin, chairman mao and the superdevil due to a small day 1 DLC on ME3. So I have no clue why I'm still here, it just annoys me to read most threads at the moment.
