statistically one of those night elfs must be a girl in real life.

surely.

...maybe.

-probably not.
There was a poll ages ago that said most woman play either Night Elf Priests or Night Elf Druids.
To be honest girls have better things to do than game. Like do their hair or their coursework.
Wait a minute? Why am i always waiting 2 hours for my lady friends to get ready when they've been doing it all day?
Doh!

Ok scratch that. From my WoW and Runescape experience i have found that there are a lot of female gamers, heck one of my great mates Jen is an ex-WoW player :)
You're just not looking hard enough!

I played WoW but i live by a set of rules, No girls on the internet. Unless Proven.

Until i hear your girl voice and you prove the fact that you in fact are or were a female at some point and time. You're a man.

Goes great with my girls don't get special treatment in games rule.

Because all girls care about are: boys, Facebook, shopping, shiny things, their idiot friends, clothes, shitty music, clothes, celebrities, shiny things...

It's true, I haven't found even one girl gamer at my college because all they care about is the above. It's driving me insane...

Just as the women are sick of the unwanted attention, I'm sick of the whining. That's one reason why I love TeamSpeak -- I can mute anyone who I don't want to listen to, unlike real life.

At least the women I speak to on TS and in guild chat have something on their minds other than "zomg latest celebrity book", "zomg latest reality TV show", "zomg personal issues" and "zomg work issues". Val especially is about as much a fan of WoW lore as I am, which makes for some interesting and engaging conversations.

I'd say, just like many others, that YOU don't SEE girls gaming because of comments like that.

Edit: To Zentex, or whatever, and other similar comments.

Girl's don't like gaming because their brains are 1/3 the size of men's. It's science.
Oh hang on, maybe they're not into gaming because of silly little man-children like you.

In the outside world I've known lots of normal girls who play games. Online I've known and played with lots of girls, especially TF2, huge amounts of girls play that.

I've also only seen a few cases of guys being sexist online but everyone just calls them out on it and then they sulk off.

So I guess I must be really lucky when it comes down to finding girl gamers.

I'm starting to get the impression you go to a college in a really crappy area.

Eggo, I think your wrong about the lack of emotional focus. When I first got gears 2, I played through with a friend that had just got the game and she actually started crying a few times during some of the sadder parts

Be fair, everyone likes shiny things.

Also dating a female gamer? not as good as you think it is... I am going to use this personal experiance as an example.

I as a male gamer and just like most other gamers can be a bit selfish sometimes. Sometimes i when i'm playing a game i like to be left alone. (I'm going to use a Online RPG as a example because more girls play that then FPS) Me and my girly were playing a unnamed online rpg together that a few my RL buds played and she wanted to join us. So she is on the phone with my and i am walking her through the tutorial and she is asking me question... question that IMO were kinda stupid because i was a more experianced gamer and already knew these things but she is my girl and i didn't say anything about it.

She gets out into the real game and i lend her some money and make a new character to level with her. Then the annoyance begins.. word of advice (not to offend) if you play a game with your girlfriend prepare to have patience because these statements/questions will arise.

"Hey log onto your other guy and come level with me"
"I don't know where to go" -explain- "How do i get there" -explain- "I'm lost come help me!"
"Why can't i kill this?"
"Come level me up!~" "You're higher level then me no fair!" "whine whine whine"

I love her to death but i had this same experiance when my dad started playing WoW with me... exept i can't kiss my dad and make up.

Ewww...

Girls have gotten themselves into a vicious cycle. It is very rare for us guys to meet female gamers online and so we often act differently because we are so keen to experience this rare phenomenon. This however puts girls off revealing themselves so there are less recognised girl gamers and therefore guys act even more retardely when they do finally come across a woman.

Eggo, then by your standards, movies dont hold emotional focus either. Yes it isnt as real as life, but that doesnt mean that it isnt there.

I did a study on this in graduate school. While it is true that many spatial orientation studies have shown a male performance bias in rats and other species the results for humans are more mixed. That being said the ESA estimates that women are closing the gap on men when you account for more casual games like solitaire on the PC as well as flash based games. My wife loves Kingdom Hearts and is naturally better than me at most games. However, she is very disinterested in most RPGs, action titles or even sim games. She likes Mario, Kingdom Hearts, Mario Kart, maybe Pikmin and Mario Party. So marketing, culture and maybe a little biology all play a part in explaining the perceived sex differences in time spent gaming.

They are but for the most part...

GIRLS DON'T LIKE SHOOTERS OR COMPETATIVE GAMES!

Girl Gamers like RPG's, Sims and Platformers.

They also like Legend of Zelda... A lot.
