I have actually known more females that play alot of games over males IRL but then again I tend to actually get along with women more so than men most of the time.

In the outside world I've known lots of normal girls who play games. Online I've known and played with lots of girls, especially TF2, huge amounts of girls play that.

I've also only seen a few cases of guys being sexist online but everyone just calls them out on it and then they sulk off.

So I guess I must be really lucky when it comes down to finding girl gamers.

Because all girls care about are: boys, Facebook, shopping, shiny things, their idiot friends, clothes, shitty music, clothes, celebrities, shiny things...

It's true, I haven't found even one girl gamer at my college because all they care about is the above. It's driving me insane...
I'm starting to get the impression you go to a college in a really crappy area.
Not really, but everyone dresses and talks the same. It's boring and makes me feel like I'm surrounded by robots.

GIRLS DON'T LIKE SHOOTERS OR COMPETATIVE GAMES!

Girl Gamers like RPG's, Sims and Platformers.

They also like Legend of Zelda... A lot.
No we don't like the competative side of things but we do like Shooters.
I blame Link for that last one, so pretty...

I think that there are plenty of girls into gaming, but they prefer their anonymity. Guys tend to make a girl's gaming relational to their being female; i.e., being female is the important thing about their gaming, and everything they do while gaming is related (somehow) to them being female. Believe it or not, our breasts and ovaries have very little to do with why we game or our choice of games.

We game because we enjoy it. Never once while considering a game have I considered my gender, but guys usually express surprise when they discover I was given God of War for Mother's Day one year. I guess because it's not "girly?" Would anyone have batted an eye had I been given a Final Fantasy game or The Sims? Probably not. Despite those being "likely choices for a girl," no one raises the equivalent eyebrow if a guy chooses to play them. Any derision a guy might get for playing FF would not be because it's "girly" but because "JRPGs suck." He's treated like a gamer with bad taste, not a "boy gamer."

*sigh* I will always be a "girl gamer" never just a gamer.

Lies. My favourite games are FPS by far. Personally I can't stand people who just assume because I'm female I'm only going to like Animal Crossing on the DS or I won't be able to kick ass on Instagib... or even know what Instagib is! Admittedly you don't get many girls who are really into the shooters and more violent games when compared to guys, but that doesn't mean we don't exist!

On, and in response to what someone said about girls only caring about shopping, Facebook and celebrities... I hate all of the above so you shouldn't generalise there either.

And finally the headshot comment... there's nothing like a good headshot with an instagib rifle :D

Wow I never knew that this was such a problem for other people. I just treat based on my system, if you are doing something stupid like running into a corner repeatedly, then you get no respect. If you get a head shot from across the level, or do something else equaling amazing, then you get respect.

I recommend God Emperor of Dune by Frank Herbert. His insight into the fundamental principles of the male and female psyches is incredible.

I would say you're the exception rather than the rule, at least among people I've met.

I'm not sure there really is a rule. Of course there are more men than women who play games but different guys can be into all sorts of things... everything from FIFA to WoW to GTA. Girl gamers vary too yet unfortunately we keep getting the assumption that the majority will just want to play things like the Sims.

Yeah, neckbeard sci fi books always offer the most incredible insights into the fundamental principles of the male and female psyches.

Also, check out Halo: Fall of Reach. You will gather some fantastic knowledge into the most foundational social differences between males, female AI's, and the Covenant.
You seem to have some vendetta against me and my opinions. I can assume that you've never read God Emperor of Dune or at best have practically no memory of it. Therefore your statement is moot and should be ignored.

You take obvious joke posts way too seriously. Reading all that fan fiction and trying to reconcile it with canon is a recipe for internal turmoil and anxiety!
No, I ignored that bit.

Have you read God Emperor of Dune?

maybe they think mindless violence isnt fun?
Oh, sure, I cried and weeped after I accidently ran my sports car over pedestrians, hitting up to 20 people. I felt so horrible. All those poor little things!

And then not a minute later, my weapon went off.. right next to someone's head! I can't believe it! I'm such a silly girl.

Yes, mindless violence is lame!

I wish I could play as a girl in a GTA game for once, though. Bleh.
