Now politics, that's where you aren't allowed to have opinions. You are either for or against the party. Me, I hate the whole system. (This is directed at the US system and only the US politicians).
The last month and a half must have been quite the treat for you.

OT: Everyone is entitled to have an opinion, such is the way with sentient lifeforms. Part of the problem comes from people thinking they're entitled because of their opinion and the relatively consequence-free form of communication the internet provides. Miscommunications occur when the inflection and context of a statement are lost from speech to text. It's very easy to interpret a criticism as an attack when you provide the inflections in your head as you read.

YOU ARE WRONG AND PART OF THE PROBLEM, BUDDY. What is your initial reaction to that? Just a test, I don't think that.
Why thank you for pointing that out to me. I tend to be ignorant on many things so am wrong all the time. I shall try to become better in the future. Good day sir *tips hat*
*snip*
That is a telling reaction. sarcasm/snark, overused internet meme

Why not say what you mean? Would that not be a more effective way to communicate?
I was trying to make a joke while being truthful. Many times on this forum I've been wrong because I've been ignorant/uninformed on certain subject matters. I didn't know this reaction was a meme, unless you mean the tipping the hat part? I apologize for the terrible post and if I offended you at all. On the off chance you were being sarcastic as well, then that really says something about me.

Thankfully I work offshore, and I left for an internship in South Africa before the elections. Combine with the fact I don't have cable and don't use news sources from the states usually, I avoided that horror.

I'm not mad, its an interesting reaction. Where did you first see the usage of *tips hats* ? Is it a Colbert thing, the fedora thing, or something else? Do you feel that you are copying behavior that you have seen on the internet?

Ah, I misunderstood your post/intentions. I can't say where it came from, but from various shows and other things, tipping a hat seems to just be a polite gesture (though it seems to have other implications depending on the situations from what I gather). The tip hat is most likely ripping off from the internet, but the rest of it was genuine. I am trying to become more informed on various things, and on this forum it's been shown many times that I lack knowledge in certain areas and I am wrong. That does help me get informed though.

Hope that cleared things up.

It might be a little cliche but I feel that the more one truly learns the less one knows: more unknowns present themselves through exploring the Universe.

I posted the following youtube video elsewhere but I think its a good watch and pertains to reacting to expressed opinions:
Why are people such jerks? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFUjijyGz-k]

Its hard to know where someone is coming from and there can be knee-jerk reactions that feed into the notion different opinions are not welcome on the internet.

Debate.org also has a post: Has the arrival of the internet done more harm than good? [http://www.debate.org/opinions/has-the-arrival-of-the-internet-done-more-harm-than-good] 47% say yes, and 53% say no. I don't think this is very accurate but there are a few interesting comments. A couple of the comments seem out-of-place, "the internet is good [...]" but its placed in the "yes: internet does more harm column." Even if its straying from the specific topic in the OP, it serves as an example that people can have opinions on the internet.

I wonder if there is a study on the effect of the (dis-)like button(s), something for another day.

Haaaaaaa...
This remind me the day Yatzee call everyone who leave comments a f*cking loser.

As I said, I don't hate him, because he have solid reasons [for him] to hate comments.
Also he call us all like this just to be funny.

Seems like unpopular opinions are bashed frequently by commentators, and those who say them get insulted. If anyone wants to make an experiment, just search in forums, Youtube, twitter, facebook, and other places in the Internet how people react to these unpopular opinions:

My favorite: #2 "Other M is a really good game" (from which alternate universe came that!?)

It's simple, some people out there in the internet are not as reasonable as you are. While your respect other people opinion that greatly differ from yours, some other people will not respect the said other people opinions.

The Internet is an Obscure place, filled with opinions and ideas, that clash constantly within a eternal war...

I wish people would pay less attention to how good or bad -they- think it is. I mean, I've had plenty of games, songs and movies that I just didn't like at all. Yet I could still tell they were good. Just not for me.

Also, people are more likely to voice their opinions on the net. And where opinions clash, things get heated quickly.

Welcome to real life? Humanity has had fucking wars over different opinions, I don't see why you'd ever think the internet is any different.

You can say whatever you want on the internet, unless you call something sexist*, then you're an enemy of free speech denying others their rights to express themselves, and are therefore not allowed to express yourself.

*or poorly written, or shittily coded or whatever criticism someone issues against whatever the fedora-militia of the internet feels strongly enough about.

Long answer: You can disagree with some of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time. But you can absolutely disagree with all of the people all of the time.

Short answer:

Their opinion is that your opinion is trash. It's a never ending cycle you see, the way of the internet and always will be. I don't like it and I think some people have shit opinions but just because it's an opinion doesn't mean people have to respect it.

other people aren't allowed to have opinions about your opinions about their opinions because they're different from your opinion about their opinion about your opinion about their opinion
