Why cant you kill kids?

Two Competing theories.

A- Adults are worth more points. They can fight back so that makes them worth more points.

or

B- Somehow it's morally wrong to kill children, but when you destroy thousands of lives and orphan and doom children to starvation/dehydration and probably scar them for life...ya know what, it doesn't matter anyways, one way or another, the demon seed suffers!

It's a case of instinct (protective and parental) overriding higher brain functions. Distinguishing screen characters from living beings falls under the latter.

Not that instincts are wrong; they're just mechanisms for keeping living things living. And it just so happens that everyone in the games industry, as well as everyone fighting it, is a living thing.

Seriously, how come when any open[ish] world game or such like appears with annoying kids [im looking at you fable 2 and fallout 3] why cant you kill them?

im sure the developers dont want us to go out and kill kids in real life, but come on, it is make blieve after all, if we are allowed to blow some random persons head into a million bloody pieces, why cant we do it to kiddies too?

You can kill kids in Fallout 3, you just need the right mods.

Because children are innocent. That's why.

Even most bad guys know that doing anything to kids is just wrong on so many levels. In fact I have seen criminals beat up other criminals who are convicted of killing or hurting kids.

So in point, even killing kids is wrong even from a bad guys standard.

I remember in Never Winter Nights if you attack a kid it does zero damage, but they can deal damage to you and will.

You can't hurt them but they can hurt you.
