I remember, one time in Red Dead, I was gonna go rob a store in Blackwater to find that the door was already open--in the middle of the night. I went in and... well, "It's a TRAP!"

...
...
...

Actually, no, the map just got all glitchy, I guess because the store wasn't supposed to be open at night...? Kinda dumb when you think about it. I mean, do you really need two different night and day textures?

I like to think my sister is on the other side of those doors.

Then, the question becomes: Why would I want to open it?

Because a door is a very complex, hazardous object that takes years of intense training to open. Or at least, that's what I think.
This. My dad went to door college for years to get his Door Operator license so he could support our family. Not just *anyone* can do it - Gordon Freeman didn't have his DO license, and he went to MIT.

They must teach it as part of Vault-Tec Vault curriculum, though, cos the Lone Wanderer was a master at that shit.

Because your character is to good for doors, and has mindless pions open the doors for him.

I'd go with either the door is locked and you can somehow tell from looking at it or you use your magic map that tells you where objectives are to know you don't have to go that way.

Your character isn't the real main character, and out there somewhere is another game where the door opener is the real main character, being supported by his silent support gunner.

Also, I wanted to say that when I first saw this I thought of Half-Life 2, which has many unopenable doors simply because doors don't have handles. My explanation for that is that Gordon Freeman can't use his hands for anything that can't kill someone in the next 30 seconds, and so opens doors with his mind. When he has to open a door with no handle, he can't get a grasp on the door with his mind, like he can other doors or bottles. He also uses this power to prompt others to speak with him without first being spoken to.

All main characters in games are terrified of doors. They think if they open the wrong one, they'll be sucked out into the real world and used as slaves by youtubers for comic effect.
So... They're afraid of turning into cats?

OT: I've never played a game in which I couldn't open a door but my squad mates could, unless you count cut scenes.

Most likely reason is that in testing your character tried to open the door and received an electric shock for it so now instead he waits and watches for the supporting characters to open the door. Either that or the doors are supposed to be blown open with C4.

The answer is beyond obvious that I am shocked none of you have realized it. A gnome with a depressingly bad case of OCD runs around hot-gluing the every door that he can find in an attempt to prevent anyone from disturbing the interiors.

I have noticed in a lot of games, you can't open doors, but yet your squadmates can.
Why is this? Is your character afraid of doors? Is he physically too weak to open them?
Casual games, they don't want to pressure you with complex door opening decisions :p

As already said, the inability to open doors yourself in games like CoD or Homefront is there because the developers of those games all would rather make action movies, as players tend to ruin their carefully set out scipts if they would be left to their own devices.
