Why couldn't Lara get a jacket or coat from her fallen enemies?

Because they want her to remain distinctive from her enemies might be an easier answer. i dunno.

Oh dear, I hope you're not serious...

IMO it's just a matter of
"Hey, how about Lara put some warmer clothes on?"
"But... but... where r da boobiez den?"
"Um... welll... sorta... dammit! Forget it."
I doubt it was a matter of "da boobiez" but rather of the whole vulnerability theme, so that Lara could be shown freezing and her injuries had more emotional impact (even though Lara herself forgets about most of them relatively fast). And I guess so that the surprisingly minor skin abrasions she receives throughout the game could remain visible.

Because there will most likely be blood on it.

I mean, would you wear something that has blood on it that isn't yours?

Kinda weird really.
To stay alive in a survival situation I'd skin a corpse and wear it as a coat.

I think you could give her a proper outfit in Underworld, as in you got a choice of a normal person outfit, a lightweight outfit, and an ultra skimpy outfit for each zone. But yeah, Lara is hardly the character who's dressed sensibly all these years, I mean in the very first game, she wore a tank top and hot pants to Nepal.

Probably because they'd be soaking wet from all the rain.

A jacket could potentially be impractical, given all the climbing, ziplining and diving around she has to do. Without a tight fitting, relatively slim jacket she would be risking catching it on something and plunging to her death.
This too.
And men's jackets generally don't work as tight-fitting women's jackets. What with the different body types and all.

That and the programmers probably didn't want to program her getting a new jacket every time one got ripped.
Which is yet another thing: the jackets would probably already have bullet holes in them, or holes/rips from the arrows.
that pretty much, I guess this is a joke thread. But I really feel people are trying their very hardest to find misogyny and voyeurism that isn't there. She is young, in shape, practically dressed women. Hell she's wearing long trousers and isn't showing her mid section, by stereotypical video game standards she is practically a nun.
But Rblade, I'm just thinking of her well being. Just one jacket to shield out the elements that's all. and maybe a skullcap.

a noble goal, but in that case a better question might be, if they have access to a sleeping bag and radio and everything. Why didn't they pack a sweater in that survival kit?

Have you actually played the game?

If she got off the Rambo school of thought, we wouldn't see her growing number of scratches, scars, dents and bullet holes. Really simple, methinks.

Ooh, look at that, the captcha is going all artsy on me. I like it.

My thoughts exactly. I'd hollow out a chubby, hairy one and wear him. I'd wear his face, as well, to strike fear in the hearts of the enemy. Then, I'd practice Xena's tongue-twisting battle cry.

Rule of Sexy and Rule of Cool. Google them if you want to read their pages on TV Tropes, I'm not making the link easily available since there is a special hell for people who post TV Tropes links... anywhere.

Do you mean in the new game? The one where it's like, the first of her amazing globe-spanning adventures, pitting her against foes and situations she never thought she'd encounter in the entirety of her life?

I'm willing to bet it probably literally never crossed her mind.

Some people never played the older games.

I imagine the DLC option is probably the most likely.

On a side-note. I cannot believe those graphics were once considered good. My, how quickly the mind adapts.

Not Hercules?

(Very annoying captcha, forcing me at gunpoint to enter a fucking four-word advertising slogan, and refusing to give me an alternative)

I think it's bizarre that there's so many responses to this question that act as though Lara possesses any kind of autonomy as a fictional character. It's all about the designers and their desperate need for you to appreciate the tiny details of what they've created so they can justify their existence/massive graphics budget. Look look look at Lara and her painstakingly crafted outfit, and all the little scratches and scars and the sweat and the pores, you can't cover that up with a jacket! Plus I'm sure it has something to do with difficulty of rendering Lara in two different outfits or whatever (not a programmer). You would move different in a jacket as opposed to just a tank top.

Also, no, no would claim sexism if she put on a man's coat, but thanks guys for continuing to trivialize the issue. Not like it makes the gaming community look anymore sexist or anything. Actually, there's almost no doubt in my mind that Lara's womanly figure (boobs) have a lot to do with the decision not to give her warm clothing. Giving her a jacket would have done a lot to convince me that the developers are NOT sexist.

So the only way to not be sexist is to avoid sex appeal all together? That's ridiculous.
