Why did everyone say M$ sucked at E3?

Just a quick question I have for the masses.
Was it the kinect showing? Hell the thing made it into the world records for fastest selling device.
http://community.guinnessworldrecords.com/_Kinect-Confirmed-As-Fastest-Selling-Consumer-Electronics-Device/blog/3376939/7691.html

Hell if I was in charge of M$ I would be holding it up too.

Not saying it was a great showing but people claim it was the "worst showing ever." I believe that's a little harsh

I think its because it was too kinect heavy to be honest and some of the games were not even that ground breaking.

I was fine with the kinect focus, but the new Fable and Star Wars kinect were just about the worse game demos I've ever seen. The shooting bit with Future Soldier made everyone involved with kinect look like absolute tools.
The Disney land game will sell very well, and Sesame Street game actually looks good, and Dance Central 2 looks like more Dance Central, which means its awesome.
If they took out Star Wars and Fable, it would have been a decent show.

People confuse "fastest selling product" with "highest quality" or "most useful". Remember that the Wii has sold millions as well. In the case of the Kinect, "fastest selling" actually means "the most people ever suckered by a marketing compaign, who didn't do adequate research and put far to much faith in Microsoft".

After six months out, and a total of like, 8 games (none of which are of any interest to real gamers), Kinect has become a bit of a laughing stock. I think most people found Microsoft showing to be poor cause around 70% of it's games were Kinect related (ie, of no interest to the afore mentioned gamers), and all the exclusives are their old/rehashed IP's: Gears of War and Halo. People expected more, especially when compared to the amount of quality titles and HD remakes coming out on PS3.

The reality is the Kinect is getting some ok features (see: Mass Effect 3 voice commands). It's just taking too long to get them, with nothing decent for it while we wait. Except maybe Child of Eden, but that's a niche game if there ever was one.

Because it was basically a giant "fuck you" to all their customers who don't have Kinect, because outside of their kinect stuff they only showed off 3 games, 2 of which were sequels, one of which was an HD remake, and absolutely no new IPs.

They're putting all of their eggs in one basket, betting it all on a system only a small fraction of their customers have or even want, and leaving everyone else out in the cold with no games to play.

They didn't really have anything. The other guys had new pieces of hardware and a good few games. MS had nothing really. They keep on treating Kinect like a controller when it should be a complimentary device and well they didn't have many exclusives.

Just to point out another thing, voice commands for mass Effect 3 could have easily been implemented for EVERYONE, not just people who have a kinect, and all it would have taken was a HEADSET which every xbox comes with. It's just another excuse to use the kinect, not a reason for it to actually exist.

O_O. Wow. This is very true. I must bring that point up with my co-worker next time he's defending Kinect as "the greatest piece of gaming technology we'll ever see".

Because everything was about Kinect. They are desperate for people to buy them so they look justified in making it and putting so much money into it. I only know one person who has one, and they don't use it that often.

I'm sure there are people who like it, but interesting hardware with mundane software isn't going to convince me to buy one. Maybe there will be some upcoming game that really makes the kinect look brilliant, but I haven't seen any yet.

When I saw that they were using Kinect for Mass Effect 3 voice commands. My first though was, "why can't I already do this?"

That and what everyone else has said, no games good games for people who don't have Kinect.

(Flame detterent: Everything in this post is soley my own opinion, and does not reflect the views, except by coincidence, of anyone but myself. Ye have been warned.)

Listen, why all the hate for the KINECT?!? Kinect is a revolutionary system that will CHANGE GAMING FOREVER. Kinect is motion controls done right. Big gaming names are just too shy to put anything into it. Forza Motorsport 4 will have Kinect support, and I have to say that it's on my list of top 5 games I'm looking foward to this year. (The others being Halo:CE Anniversary, AC: Revelations, Starfox 64, and MW3) Kinect just needs some time to mature. Just like what happened with Wii's motion controls, gamers never gave the industry a chance to really develop something great for the tech. They just said "OMG OMG WTF IS THIS WHY YOU MAKE ME EX3ERCI5E, GAMING INDUSTRY?!? I JUST WANT TO SIT ON MY @$$ ALL DAY AND GET FAT LOL". PlayStation Move was the exact same thing as the Wiimote, except it had a gun-shaped controller for shooters that actually worked (and good shooters).

Let us not forget that the game that I'm predicting will be 2011 Game of the Year (Minecraft) will be coming to Kinect.

In terms of MS not having any new releases, but just re-releasing old things, let us not forget that the way to prosper in business is to find something that works, and stick with it. If you want to bash someone for not releasing any new titles, go bash Square Enix: 14, maybe 15 or more Final Fantasy, quite a few Dissidia (FF character exclusive SSB) games, spinnoffs like the Tactics series; quite simply put, the one time they TRIED something new (Neir, I believe it was), it fell flat on its face. Plus, fans of the Halo series were CLAMORING (at least in my community) for closure with the Cheif, and for a remake of previous games. Remaking Halo: Combat Evolved was I think the best decision for MS and the fledgling 343 Industries, seeing as it was the game that essentially showed every other console shooter since how it's done, and enthralled millions of gamers with an immersive and intreguing series. Rekindiling that interest in gamers is the perfect lead into the new trilogy. Which I'd be willing to bet money will feature the Forerunners as the antagonists.

Case in point, ANY group would be justified in just doing new games for old franchises, because that's how business works, folks. If all game companies ever did was make new titles, you'd A: Run out of names for games and characters, and B: Enfuriate gamers with either 100-hour campaigns that would be easier broken up into seperate games, or by not making sequels. Also, it's rare that a new series becomes a groundbreaking success. Companies would go bankrupt if all they ever did was create new games and plotlines. New blood is needed for gamers every now and again, but not that often.

Plus, I didn't see anyone complaining about Nintendo's StarFox 64 remake for 3DS. That's a remake of an old franchise, too.

Is it wrong to say that I just picked the Xbox for 3rd party games. I'm trying to think of the only strictly Xbox game I own and I think it's Gears 2 and Fable 3.

Sure I could have gone with the PS3 but when I was looking it was six-hundred dollars for crap I didn't need or want. I honestly didn't come to see Xbox exclusives. I came to see:

That one from what used to be Big Huge Games.
Skyrim.
Batman: Arkham City
AC: Revelations

The whole motion control thing will either catch on and become cheaper to just grab, or it will die off. Either way I'm not too pressured to care about Kinect and that's probably a bad thing for Microsoft.

They didn't really show anything new, even Halo 4 was leaked days before the E3 event. Beyond that they showed more of the Kinect, but nothing using the thing looked all that impressive.
I wouldn't say they sucked, but they were probably the weakest of the big 3.

Who the hell are all these people buying Kinect, did they get the old housewives market or something? All I know is I personally don't want one and am not interested in any games for it.

And I've never been a fan of the Halo series either. So they basically announced nothing of interest for me.
